We just returned from the Black Bear Lodge for a 5 night stay. We traveled with a group of 10 and rented a 2 BD/2BA and a 3 BD/3BA condo. We had 4 ppl in the 2 BD and the remaining 6 in teh 3 BD. ||||I would not recommend anymore then 4 ppl in 2 BD and no more than 6 in the 3 BD as the rooms are kind of cramp. But, the comfortable decorations and views made the stay enjoyable. ||||The only major compliant I have is the hot tub was out of service. The first day we were there it was working and there was a group of about 8 college kids sitting in it all day drinking and smoking. The next day it was closed and we called property mgmt and they would not disclose why it was closed but that it would be opened the next day.||||Well, that did not happen. So, we called the owner of both condos we rented and he made a call to the service company who does the maintenance for Black Bear Lodge. They promised him they would come out the next day and fix it. This did not happen either. ||||So, as we were leaving to go to the airport we saw someone working on the hot tub. It took 5 days to get someone out there to work on the hot tub.||||We tried to go across the street and use our neighbors hot tub and a couple over there told us that the Black Bear Lodge hot tub is always out of service due to a # of issues.||||This was a big issue for us as we always enjoy a nice soak after a long day of skiing.||||Other than that the stay was very enjoyable. The shuttle comes every :19 and :49 after the hour and was never early or not even 2-3 min behind schedule. This was great for someone who prefers to drive and not...
Read moreWe had hoped to book a room at The Lodge at Mountaineer Square (where we have stayed before) because we like the location so much (easy access to various restaurants, mini-golf, ski lift, etc.), and the rooms are gorgeous, spacious, and exceptionally clean. However, we were a little late making our plans and The Lodge was all booked up. We ended up booking with Black Bear Lodge and then were disappointed that we couldn't find much info or many pictures online. The staff was pretty good about responding to our questions via email. The Black Bear is about a 12 minute walk to the aforementioned activities (not bad). The accommodations were very nice. We booked unit 308, a one-bedroom with king bed, queen sofa-sleeper, kitchen, living room, deck (no deck chairs), and a loft with another queen bed. The loft turned out to be a big waste of money for a summer-time visit. It was extremely warm and stuffy with no ventilation. Even the big box fans were no help. So we didn't use the loft at all. Otherwise, with our group of 5 adults and 1 child, there was plenty of space for us, although bathroom #2 was very small/cramped. Housekeeping came in everyday to replace the towels and take the trash, then once a week to do a more thorough cleaning. There is no swimming pool, but there is a hot tub, which our boys enjoyed. The view of Mt. Crested Butte from our deck...
Read moreWe stayed in a 3 bedroom condo with our toddler, 2 other couples and their 2 children for a weekend of mountain biking in the fall. The lodge is nicely decorated and inviting, but the overall feel is cramped. ||We had a first floor unit, and it is one level. All 3 bedrooms are small and the furniture fills up the space, not leaving much room for luggage or movement. The opening for the TV above the fireplace in the living room was so small that the DVD player did not fit, and had to be dangled from an ottoman to span the electrical outlet and the TV connections. There are 3 bathrooms which is great when there are 3 families. ||The lodge is right next to the recreation path that goes into Crested Butte (Black Bear Lodge is 2 miles up the road in Mt. Crested Butte). It is also in walking distance to a ski lift. There is an outdoor shared hot tub for the guests that has a nice view down the valley.||I would recommend this condo for a smaller group, as it is cozy and nice. But for 6 adults and 3 children, there wasn't enough common space for us to be able to share it comfortably and relax at...
