Overall, my stay at Sleepy Hollow Cabins and Hotel was fine. The staff were friendly, and both check-in and check-out were very easy. Parking was also convenient, Lake gregory is just a walking distance so no problems there.
However, my main concern is that the pictures online do not match the actual room I was given. Coming from Los Angeles, I was really looking forward to a relaxing getaway, and I booked based on the photos. The pictures showed a cozy, country-style room with a bedroom, kitchen, and living area, which seemed like a great deal for about $160 a night. But when I arrived, I was disappointed to find that the room looked completely different from what I had booked.
Another issue was the so-called “fully equipped kitchen.” The description said it was complete with utensils and everything, but in reality, it wasn’t functional. The refrigerator worked well and the microwave was fine, but there was no usable stove, no basic cooking tools, and the drawers were not very clean. I had planned to relax and cook since I love cooking, but I couldn’t. Luckily, paper plates and disposable items were available to buy, but that’s not what I expected for a place advertised as having a complete kitchen.
The air conditioner was very noisy and had a gas smell. The bathroom, while it had good water pressure and a working water heater, had an extremely small toilet🚽 that I think most people would find uncomfortable. The sofa looked dirty, so I had to request extra sheets to cover it. The room also had an old smell, and the TV didn’t function properly and you can see trash bins outside your window aside from a fly inside our cabin.
I didn’t want to ruin my vacation by complaining, and since no other rooms were available, I just tried to make the best of it by spending most of my time enjoying Lake Gregory, Lake Arrowhead, and even Big Bear Lake. But honestly, it was frustrating that the pictures and descriptions were misleading.
The staff themselves were great and did their part well, but I think management really needs to update the photos and descriptions to reflect the reality of the rooms and amenities. Guests choose and book based on what they see online, and it’s disappointing when the actual accommodations are very different. For the price I paid, I expected the room and kitchen shown in the pictures, not what I got.
That’s my only complaint. Everything else—staff, check-in, check-out, parking—was okay. Location is perfect! Close to everything...I just hope the hotel will be more truthful in its advertising so future guests aren’t misled.

Read moreMe and my boyfriend chose to come take a day trip here. We chose this hotel due to the amenities listed on the website. The room we stayed in the photos online were so different than what we walked into. But we chose to just continue the trip. Sadly the bed in the bedroom was extremely uncomfortable, and the room was very unclean. The light they had for the bedroom other than the ceiling fan wasn’t even plugged in to use. And the bedding was extremely old and outdated unlinked what they advertise on their website. As we sat on the old and uncomfortable sofa I noticed the flooring in the living room had all these stains all over it. At first I thought it was from us but I soon realized most of it was old and like dried up food marks as again we had just arrived there. There was a someone else’s drink container on the floor in the bedroom and there was black long hair on the towels in the bathroom (we don’t have dark long hair), and the sink in the bathroom was leaking all over the floor when you would use it that required us to put a towel down to avoid and slips. There was no hair dryer and the water pressure in the shower was extremely weak. We checked in around 1:30 pm after being at the local lake and within the first 4 hours of us being there the power went out initially once but came back on quickly. We ignored it. But then it happened again around 5:30 and it never turned back on. We went and spoke to the office as at this point during the summer our room was getting quite hot. They informed us that we should wait an hour and see, and that they wouldn’t be able to rent the room and wouldn’t refund us. So we waited an hour and found out the reason for the power outage was most likely caused by a local fire. We decided to go talk to them again and started to load up to leave. Again they refused to refund us which I find absolutely absurd, we paid for a service that they were unable to provide. Even if it wasn’t a refund for the full amount at least pro rate us and refund the difference for time not used. But they claim it is not within their policy, which this does not fall under any policy listed. They were unable to provide a service due to underlying issues which i understand but expecting occupants to use their units during summer in a unit which is in direct sun without any power or ac and refusing to refund then due to “their” inconvenience is terrible customer service hands down. This business has allot to learn if they plan on attracting returning customers.

Read morePros: The location is fantastic and cannot be beat in Crestline. There's only one other hotel right off of Lake Drive.||||Cons: Literally everything else. We arrive at 3pm to check-in, there's no one in office. We call the number on the front door, no one answers. We wait 10 minutes and call again, a woman answers and says she'll be right there. She finally comes by, gives us the wrong key during check-in. And we have to wait another 20 minutes while she searches for it, it's not in the office. When we finally get the key, we go to the room (we stayed in the hotel portion and not the cabins). There was a few leaves and crumbled up bits of paper behind the door and in the corners of the room. Not a huge dealbreaker, it's $120 bucks a night. ||||The next day, the family above us starts stomping around and making noise at 7am. Every footstep is a mini jackhammer. Again, not a huge dealbreaker, it's an older hotel. I open the cabinet containing the microwave to reheat some leftovers and see 3 roaches scurry about. I close it and drift off until my happy place. That was my final straw. After that I couldn't get comfortable in the hotel at all and could no longer ignore the vast amount of issues this place has. Dirt and grime everywhere, a shower curtain that hadn't been changed since Reagan was president.||||I told my partner lets just get through it, it's two nights. Don't leave your suitcase open, we don't want to take any visitors home with us. The next day we checkout and start heading home. In the car I'm looking down and a giant roach is on my shirt. I'm a 37 year old grown man and let me tell you how I SCREAMED at the top of my lungs. Just absolutely vile. I brush it off, the roach falls to the floor, and I reenact the entire one hour and 50 minutes of the movie Footloose in about 30 seconds. I became one with Kevin Bacon.||||Finally, we get home and I get to enjoy the safety of our clean house. On Monday, I'm sitting at my computer working from home. At some point I look down to see my cat intensely staring underneath my feet. I peer under my desk and there's another cockroach! We don't and have never had cockroaches in our house, ever! EVER! My worst nightmare of bringing bugs home from a hotel finally came true.||||TLDR version: If you're like me and The North Shore Inn was sold out for the weekend you were planning to come, CHANGE YOUR DATES. Do not stay here, do not pass go, seriously it's worth it to change everything else than to ever stay in this bowl of feces hotel....
