I will never stay here again. The room was not in my name. I was a guest. We were having a romantic celebration, my girlfriend and I. The rooms are nice. Unique for sure. My girlfriend and I got a deal on one of the major sites. It was late when we checked in. We parked in a little lot next to the hotel. There were no signs or Indication where to or not to park. We enter the hotel and we're greeted by the valet people. We gladly turned over our keys and tipped him. Again no Indication of any kind. Check in was smooth. Simple $50 card deposit for incidentals. We were assured it would only be charged if there was an issue at checkout. Bed was cozy and room was nice. At 8am we get a knock on our door. "Managment" they announced. So we opened the door. The lady was extremely rude. Courtney was her name. She said my card had been declined for incidentals. So we asked why it was being charged. She had all kinds of attitude. She then started demanding we fork over another $200 after she hit my card for the $50 I pre-approved. They demanded $75 for the service dog I had with me. No one mentioned anything at check in about any fees associated with my service animal. Then she said it was $50 per car we had parked ourselves in their lot. Then she said ther was a convenience fee and another one or two other fees. At this point I feel like she was just making them up. I get out the door to go to work and call for my truck. Which has my wallet all my money and my tools in it. They refused to give my vehicle or personal property unless I paid another $200 on top of the $50 they already stole from me. And my name is not even on the room. They called the police on me for demanding my work vehicle and not paying all the fees they blind sided us with. I don't have another $200 for you lady. These are all hidden fees that you spung on us while we were sleeping. I left the hotel on foot to avoid any turmoil. She refused to let my truck go without the additional payment. So I came up with the money. Borrowed it from friends and Went back to the hotel only to be informed she had my vehicle towed anyway. I have never been woken up from sleep by hotel staff. Ever in my life. Especially as rudely as this woman had. Demanding money or get out. I paid $129 on priceline for the room. At checkin we were hit with another $30 and $50 charge. $30of which was supposed to be refunded.$50 was only if there Were damages. So she woke us up on our romantic stay and kicked us out for not having $200 more. So now they have hit my card twice for the $50 = $100 the original $129 the $30fee and an additional $200. My work truck is now costing $370 to get from impound. So our little $129 room cost me $800 and I was kicked out early so I didn't get to eat breakfast or shower. I Missed a day of work, costing me even more money. Was humiliated infront of everyone in the lobby and msCourtney didn't even have the courtesy to inform me she had my vehicle towed away. By the time I found out they were closed and had to pay for a ride home to longmont only to return to Denver the next day to get my truck out of impound. My truck was robbed either at the hotel or by the tow company. Im now missing all of my tools ad lost my job over this. This is unreal. Who does this woman think she is? She destroyed my life and my name was not even on the room. She kept my truck and kept me from working. Kept my personal property. Iv never had such poor or rude service from any business ever. This lady has no business treating guests like she had. I would recommend avoiding this hotel if you do stay watch for all the hidden fees and costs..lock your doors. it's criminal. This woman has no right treating guests as she does. Humiliating us infront of everyone in the lobby. Keeping me from my property and calling the police on us. I missed a very important deadline at work over this. This woman needs to be fired and has no business in the hospitality industry what so ever..we asked multiple times for a corporate phone number or to speak to a higher manager and she...
Read moreWe found a free parking spot right across the street from the hotel, so we got super lucky there. I noticed a lot of people complained about the parking, but they do make it very clear on their website. We walked right past the front door w our luggage and an employee came running out to help us. Self check-in was a breeze, with a very friendly staff member guiding any questions. I was bummed the roof top bar and hot tubs were closed for the winter- I think they made the announcement after booking. Ces la vie, it's been a chilly January. Navigating the hotel was easy and what a beautifully crafted and creative space it is! We loved all the design and artwork!
The functionality of the room was incredible. We loved every bit of it- the lofted bed, crafty storage, kitchenette was great for us to heat up leftovers on the skillet. The lights were a little confusing at first but we found a sheet on the door that explains how everything works in the room. My only complaint was it could've been a little cleaner (I resonate w Monica Geller and hold high cleanliness standards though). The skillet lid still had oil splatter on it, and when I dropped a make up brush in the bathroom I noticed how very dirty it was under the sink cabinetry. We were only staying for 24hrs so I didn't feel inclined to get housekeeping in there. Besides that, amazing! Vanity was big enough for 2 girls to get our make up done at the same time. For being a small space, the studio felt very roomy. Perfect for us 2.
After booking and before arrival, I read the 1 star reviews to prepare myself for the worst. During self check-in I noticed they were charging me $150 instead of $75 for the late check out but decided to get up to the room and deal w it later. In the morning, I got an email from the hotel saying check out was at noon. I sent an email around 9AM asking for clarification on the bill and ensure we had the late check out. By 11AM I had a response that the charge was taken care of and we were good to check out at 4PM. Around 3 somebody knocked on our door asking us why we haven't checked out yet. I'm not sure how great communication is between employees and the computer system. I was a little annoyed w how many "add perks" emails I got despite getting approval for 2 perks already. Their automatically generated system could use some work and I feel like that's where the overcharge came from. The other perk I got was the CO Package. In the photo it shows 2 sodas, a growler from the brewery across the street, popcorn and jerky. When we got there we had 1 bottle of root beer, an empty growler w a card in it to redeem and a little bag of Boulder chips. Probably wouldn't recommend getting that perk package, we were a little disappointed. Thankfully we had brought our own snacks.
The breakfast the next morning was okay. The night before my friend and I were joking about how we've never met a potato we didn't like. Well, we met that potato at the Catbird breakfast. Very dry, no good. The croissant sandwich was okay but I wish I would've just paid for the french toast. My friend got bacon on the side and I got the chicken apple sausage links. Definitely recommend the sausage links, seems more worth the $5 charge than 2 pieces of bacon.
The walkability was amazing. We were seeing Charley Crockett at the Mission Ballroom. We were only a 10min walk away from the venue that felt safe, even late at night. There were employees hanging around late at night too which furthered our sense of safety.
All in all, I look forward to booking a room again in the future. I appreciate the quick response and fix on issues presented at the time of stay. Staff continuously asked us if we were doing okay or needed anything, not in an annoying sense but more reassurance. They're on top of making sure people staying there are happy and all is well. Nice to know there is a 24hr market w pre-made meals even though I loved having the kitchenette more. The projector was awesome and easy to work and the black out curtain was...
Read moreMy stay here was several months ago, but I still felt the need to leave a review of my stay because I think this place deserves it. This is hands down my favorite hotel I've ever stayed at. Truly an artist's dream hotel.
Checking in is done by yourself at a self-service desk. It was a bit confusing to do, but after the first time (with some help from the staff), you understand how to do everything; like using a brand new phone from a new, unfamiliar brand. I can see myself getting checked in really quickly on future return visits without trouble. We also weren't fully aware that it was valet parking when staying here, so we were confused about that too, but the staff helped us with everything around it as well, so we didn't have to travel far to get back to our car.
I absolutely love the themeing of this place. In every single space from the lobby, to the hallways, to the rooms, there's so much unique artwork to look at. You can spend so much time trying to see it all and it makes walking around the hotel so exciting since you never know what you'll see next, like a big six-floor museum.
The rooms felt very comfortable, cozy, and clean. I love that the bed is raised on a platform because it gives so much class, and adds decor and interest without interfering too much with function, and is just neat overall. The bed was also comfy with lots of pillows, I liked falling asleep staring at the window then being gently woken up by the Sun. The blinds are also cool that they can change the level of transparency, which comes in handy for using the projector to watch stuff from bed! Although I didn't get to use it during my stay... It has a nice little kitchenette or whatever with nice space for ingredients, cookware to use, and even fun cookbooks to get inspiration from that can be great to save money on trips by cooking your own meals. The room itself has a bit more subtle decoration in comparison to the rest of the hotel, which I think is a benefit to the room since it helps to create a retreat to relax and recharge before you go back outside. And it’s okay because the bathroom has lots more interesting decor to look at. It's not important but I like the shower, I had fun with it.
The room also comes with a map of places nearby, as well as information about things to do in the hotel, such as whole nightly events and roof access. The room is great because I just wanted to live there.
My biggest regret was not thanking the staff enough. It seemed like they were with us through our entire stay, and they were incredibly friendly, no matter what time of the day or what we needed help with. They made this place feel like a safe space and added life to a building that already was filled with wonder. (Also on the review page the hotel sends out after your stay, there's a space for mentioning any Catbirders that did a particularly great job, so might want to remember a few names 😉)
Then also a note about breakfast. They had coolers of cold breakfast meals and staff at the stove making hot breakfast made-to-order. It wasn't anything crazy, but for breakfast, it doesn't need to be at all, and it was very satisfying, we felt ready to take on the day. The options were also somewhat limited, but I believe breakfast changes everyday, and I didn't see it as a problem anyway since the meals were great as is and had just enough variety to make a choice.
I still several months later, genuinely miss being in this hotel. I wish I could've had a day to just exist in the hotel and see everything it has to offer. It was sad checking out for me because I wanted to stay and have a chance to take everything in. I wish a knew of more events happening in Denver so I could visit this place again. There may be other hotels that could be better, but for me, I'll be staying here whenever I visit Denver again in the future. I sincerely hope this place stays this wonderful for years to come and only goes up from here. With the amount of value I got out of this, I can't recommend staying...
