This was our first time at this Butcher Block location. So, firstly, if you think you're going to the RiNo district and this is going to be a trendy foody local just go on ahead and scratch that notion right out of your hipster little head, lol. This place is a throwback to the atmosphere of bygone era of eatery ala Alice's Diner.(Yes, the 70's TV show) I'm not putting the place down for that, just laying out the facts for readers of this review. We entered and the lone waitress on duty shouted out a friendly hello and instructed us to sit where ever we wanted (there was only one other patron) and we did just that choosing a booth with formed orange plastic benches and a scribble laminate table top (complete nostalgia for us). Waitress took our order promptly with a smile reciting the special for that evening. She was very attentive for our entire meal and never let our drinks run out. I ordered the polish sausage sandwich, very simple but very yummy. My friend ordered the pot roast plate which was equally good. There was nothing gourmet or complicated about the food here but for good old fashioned comfort food this was the place...as well as the authentic experience. Just a side note, I get the idea that this place may be really busy on a weekend for breakfast but we haven't been here for that kind of nonsense. We came on a wednesday evening for dinner before a concert at the Mission Ballroom. I highly suggest hitting up this place with absolutely no wait in place of standing in line at the restaurant there. I think we'll be back here again if...
Read more@westword called this place a quintessential Denver restaurant. While westword didn't have much credibility before, they've lost all credibility by even suggesting that this place should be visited much less continue to stay open.
Well I would give them for stars for the service, everything that they bring to the table is less than 1 *. For example, there's no reason to have lukewarm coffee at 8 in the morning. There's no reason to serve food on plates that have numerous chips in them and leave customers susceptible to getting injuries.
Unfortunately the food had absolutely zero flavor except for the hash browns, which had a predominant flavor of burnt old food that came off of a dirty old Grill. I can't imagine this place would survive a health inspector visit which it desperately needs, and while I appreciate somebody trying to have a business to support themselves, at least make the saying effort of acting like you care by using the slightest amount of seasoning where eliminating unsafe dishes, or anything that shows that you care.
Having visited the Dakotas in the past, the one thing that really stands out is how awful the food is. I should have used that as a warning to stay away from this place because it both said it's owned by people from North Dakota which may possibly have the worst...
Read moreI’ve been a loyal customer of this establishment for nearly 14 years, and I’ve always had nothing but praise for the ownership and the wonderful memories created here. However, today was a different experience. I walked in, sat down, and to my surprise, there was no acknowledgment or even a simple hello. I overheard some of the staff speaking negatively about a gentleman who had just left, right in front of other customers. After a while, I continued waiting for someone to offer coffee and take my order, but after more than 10 minutes of waiting, two other customers walked in and were immediately offered menus and greeted. Still, no one checked on me. Feeling ignored, I made the decision to leave—for the first and last time.
I’ve noticed a decline in service over the past year, but today was truly an eye-opener. It’s incredibly disappointing, and unfortunately, I will no longer be recommending this place to others. It feels like the changes in staff and newer faces may be a part of it, or perhaps it’s the first time I’ve truly felt the impact of being treated differently as a minority. Regardless, the experience left much...
