I am going to give this Hotel a complete review.... Pro's and Con's. Make sure you read to the end. #1 if coming in from the Airport, take the train. It will bring you to within about a 3 block walk. You have to go over the tracks via catwalk but easy inexpensive to the Hotel. #2 The Hotel is in a developing area and has a ton of really hip and cool places to eat/drink. Mini cafe/coffee across the street. #3 Awesome design & decor and very clean hotel. I am giving this a great value for the price. #4 Rooms are awesome design, no carpeting (which is a plus in my mind), no closet (3 hangers) and no dresser. But, although those sound like negatives the rooms are larger and great use of space, small couch, extra chair and modern desk. Bed was awesome and comfortable. Very Clean. Cool coffee idea that actually is really good coffee in the room (and tea). Mini fridge. Blow dryer was good. They have the pump soaps in the shower which i really like. #5 Workout room is not great. Kind of small but offers all the basics for a quick little workout. #5.5 If you are in need of a conference room they have that as well and it is SUPER awesome. #6 No free breakfast or coffee in the lobby. HOWEVER, this place makes a wickedly awesome breakfast burrito for $10. You will not be disappointed in this (maybe one of the best breakfast burritos Ive ever had?). They make all the fancy coffee you want as well. ODDLY....the food out of this place is really solid. They have evening food as well that looked really good (I didn't order anything after hours but they were bragging about it, so there is that). Make sure you eat here. #6.5 We did not park there. I think parking has some limitations so you would need to inquire about that? Many great food options close by. #7 OKAY...now comes meat n potatoes. The 8th floor bar is fantastic. Has an outdoor beer patio... again, fantastic. Loved this space!!! #8 Finally, this is no joke, one of the BEST Hotel staff I have been around in a long time. They are all great, desk, cleaning crew, servers, etc. etc.. I typically stay in hotels around that $135 to $235 range. I travel about 2-3 weeks per month so I have been in many hotels. These folks are doing it right. Very kind and helpful and engaging. Especially the manager!!! He gave us great tips for food n beverage in the area. He gave me his cell number and when we were out we needed destination 2 and he called me back gave us a great tip. I was impressed and felt like my business was important to them. We will be...
Read moreUpon arriving I was not greeted by anyone when it was my turn, was kind of just looked at. It was me who did the greeting and initiation upon why I was there, which was to check in. I am a local, and had a rough day and needed to get away, and due to all the casinos being booked on a Saturday night, I resorted to downtown, and randomly chose here. Wasn't too chafed about the greeting, whatever. But then they tell me there is no parking, but I can look for rando spots around, or there is a parking garage two blocks away for fifteen dollars, up one block, take a left, and two blocks down. I went that way, decided I had too much to carry for that walk, despite being in good physical health and strong, I just wasn't feeling it. So I drove around the vicinity for 15-20 mins til I parked in a shiesty spot that I'm pretty sure I wouldn't get towed in, for I saw no signs whatsoever after diligently looking everywhere, but I took my registration and insurance just in case. I've seen parking wars. So cool points taken away again. Then I go to eat at the cool rooftop taco/tequila bar. I ordered...etc...I realized I left my phone in my room. I'm alone so I'm sitting there bored. So I ask the guy if I can go retrieve my phone if I leave my ID and credit card. He says sure and takes them. Lol, my stupid self, thinking he really wouldn't take them, thinking he'd be like, no, that's ok, I trust you, you're a guest here...he takes them, lol, Im walking to get my phone and I'm like what have I done! This dude is gonna ID thieve me and rip me off! I come back and it looks like to me, in my paranoid state that he's coercing with his coworker on thier phones while he's holding my ID and credit card looking at them while I walk up. Stupid on my part yes, and I'm just waiting for the ID theft. Not blaming anyone but myself there. Next complaint. I need some cash so I go downstairs. I walk up to the desk with the same two ladies as earlier, and once again I walk up and get ignored, so I say "Excuse me, is there an ATM in here? I haven't seen one anywhere" and I was told that the closest ATM was at some place I cant remember the name of, one block away behind the building. And now that I'm thinking of it, dont you have a bar upstairs? Is there really not an ATM up there? You really dont cater to dru ks who run out of money and want to drink more? Wow. I will never be staying any Best Western again. The one closest to where I live, has nothing but crackheads living there, (120th and Huron) hence why I'm in one in...
Read moreThe beds are comfy and clean. The entire staff seems really nice and approachable. The lobby is very inviting, and I love the color scheme. I would stay here again if I pack my own Keurig machine.
It seems to me that in an effort to appear more modern or hip, the powers that be have scaled back on odd things. For example, there is no microwave in this room or any other rooms. We have eaten out twice and brought food back to the room in to go boxes, but we have no way to heat the food again. Another oddity: there is a percolator type device in our room that we are supposed to use to make coffee. Why not a small Keurig machine or something similar? We don't know how to use this hot tea pot (?), as neither of us have ever seen this device before.
Also, we have just two tiny trash cans...We have not actually spent a lot of time in the room, but we have filled up the tiny trashcans twice each in 2.5 days. Finally, there are very, very few places to hang up a towel to dry, There is a very short bar to hang one washcloth, and one hook to hang a towel from, but it won't dry when it's draped tightly across a hook. There needs to be a long bar to hang a bath towel or two...
These details are not super important, but the lack of them leaves us feeling that we are lacking over and over...no way to heat food or drinks, we had to create an "extra large trashcan" from a plastic bag, we bought all our coffee from the coffee bar in the lobby, but I let my coffee get too cool yesterday and had no way to warm it up, nor warm up any of the boxes of food we brought from restaurants. Towels: we have begun to drape them across the chairs in the room in order to let them dry out during the day... and the walls are thin - or there was a monkey bouncing a ball in the room above ours last night. A very clumsy monkey who couldn't throw or catch the ball very well. My friend wants me to include the fact that the rooms don't have carpets. The positive side of no carpets is that the floors can be swept and mopped clean. The negative side of having no carpets includes hearing footsteps and doors shutting more often than usual.
We both agree that we would stay here again due to the friendly staff, the rooftop bar, the comfy beds and pillows and the overall...
