The Sheraton Erie Bayfront Hotel is, hands down, my favorite Marriott property I've ever stayed at. I come to Erie very regularly for weekend/extended stays to enjoy Presque Isle, etc., and I try to stay at the Sheraton as often as possible.
In the past 13 months (as of Sept. 3, 2022), I've had the pleasure and ability to stay in this hotel for about 34 nights.
In that time, I reached out to the staff for only one minor issue.
Every staff member I encounter is nothing but courteous and kind — from cleaning crews to maintenance workers, foodservice staff and guest services. They've always been so great and friendly. I honestly can say I've never encountered an issue with the staff here and always think about how great the employee training and hiring process must be.
In my most recent stay, I was arriving late from the train and reached out ahead of time to let them know. They quickly sent me the mobile key and assured me that I'd have no issues getting to my room at such a late hour.
In addition, it is the only Marriott property I've stayed at that successfully uses the in-app services. If I need additional towels or have a question, I use the Bonvoy app and questions/services are quickly addressed.
When friends and colleagues inquire about things to do, places to stay and where to eat in Erie, I quickly suggest the Sheraton.
The rooms are incredibly clean. Everything has always been in working order for me (TV, fridge, curtains, bathroom, etc).
The hotel rates are reasonable when demand is low and are high when demand is high, as one might expect. When you compare prices to other hotels on Peach Street and consider the superior level of service and cleanliness (and the view!), there is no question the Sheraton is worth it.
A few things to keep in mind or consider when booking and staying: » Be kind to the staff. They are amazing. While the property certainly lives by the "Disney appearance" belief (that is, put on a great show in front of the curtain for the audience), there is no doubt they are impacted by having fewer staff members right now. Be patient and kind to them. » If it's your first time, splurge for the bay view room and make sure to avoid any room ending in "02" or "04" (and maybe "24") because the view of Erie's Bicentennial Tower is obstructed by the building. But all bay views rooms offer a 100 percent incredible view of the bay, Presque Isle and Lake Erie (for higher floors). » In rooms where there is a bathtub, the tub area and curtain do not provide enough area for taller people or people with large arm spans. Sounds odd but if you're tall, you know what I mean. If you try to turn around, it could be tricky. If you're able to get a room with a shower only, do it. » Not every floor has a microwave or self-service laundry. But they're only a few floors away if yours doesn't have it. » Parking is $14 per day. I think that's steep, especially for Erie. But we pay it because we have to. I have skipped the garage fee sometimes and parked on the street (a metered day is $10). In the winter, I prefer the garage if it's snowing for obvious reasons. » The walk from the garage to the hotel is odd. There is a "tunnel" of sorts with an awning to protect guests from rain, snow and sun. It's a long walk if you've got kids, are older or have a physical disability. Of course, you could do drop offs at the main door, but, logistically, it is a bit of a pain. » The pool offers two hours of late-night adults only swim. Most guests must not know this, so I've been lucky enough to have the hot tub to myself. And, the pool does tend to be a little chilly. The pool area is great for reading. » All of the food I've had from the hotel is great — from the restaurant to the club lounge and room service. » The lobby is small and can be pretty noisy and busy. It's not a great place to hang out unless you're waiting for others or are heading to the bar/restaurant. The lobby is gorgeous and looks so pretty when decorated for the holidays!
All of that said: If you're coming to Erie, stay at the Sheraton....
Read moreAfter visiting Erie for the first time for a wedding we were all a part of, I am wide awake at 4:30am writing this review because… I am so uncomfortable in this bed. I’m a healthy person and have never been one to complain about anywhere I’ve ever slept before! After all our travel, (and after all that partying) I was excited for good sleep. I didn’t expect a great sleep… I just knew I couldn’t wait to relax. Now that I’ve been tossing and turning all night the blankets are literal cardboard and newspaper. The pillows allow me to feel like my head is laying even lower than the rest of my body. Even the pillows are making me sad. Room was set and reading 67 although it’s been hot in here all night and just now kicked on. I woke up sweating and I guess just overall uncomfortable. Last night, After the young “polite” staff at the wedding (located here on the 2nd floor) made almost every guest I spoke with frustrated.. I believe the young crew with 0 efforts to smile and or be an ounce of kind may be the wrong crew to put in a wedding position. As a bartender myself it was unacceptable in my eyes to be that miserable and unkind at a wedding. Since they didn’t get the hint that obviously it’s a happy day. I understand tending a free bar can be tough although you could atleast smile once or attempt to be accommodating to what maybe under the influence people are asking for. Let alone the tips I know and saw them receiving. It seemed like a sweet and wonderful wedding that really wasn’t overwhelming for a bar crowd. Beyond that the same bartender who then decided to deliver our plates and food made gestures like “give me that” “move that out of my way” “hand me those plates” just so strange as a personal caterer, how they made 0 effort to be respectable and or just forcing you to take cake and or the fact our empty dinner plates sat with us after we cleaned the table for maybe an hour or so after everyone had started dancing. Maybe with my work it just leads me to understand nobody wants to keep smelling their food once they’ve finished eating. I’m not one to write a review like this but I’d like to get the staff names today and hopefully come back to this post to let you know if you plan on getting married here, expect sub par food, rude servers, and expect them to card everyone at an open bar at a wedding children weren’t allowed at. Leaving over half of us returning to our rooms at the start of cocktail hour to grab our IDs. As a 34 year old woman this can be a compliment, but also quite frustrating waiting 30 mins in cocktail hour(open bar) in line to get a drink just for them to tell us NO where’s your IDs? As the miserable bartenders themselves looked to be newly 22. Just not the service I expected at an exquisite event in an exquisite place, and then can’t find one person working the wedding with any kindness. I know they expect everyone to be a bunch of drunks so the way they speak with you is careless. But the ones that have good memory (and/or sober) and won’t complain this ones for you! Blonde lady in green was the lady yelling rudely and I couldn’t describe details of the other workers, but unsatisfactory. Strange and equally miserable staff. Although front desk can be nice so it’s interesting the team they threw on the wedding. And if that staff was just “comfortable” know at all times you have eyes on you so might as well try to smile. Thanks for coming to my ted talk. I guess I’m sorry to complain, but i remembered I’m not be apologetic since I am still trying to be a bit comfortable in my bed of...
Read moreTLDR: Someone tried to enter my room late at night, and hotel staff gaslit me. Management hasn't provided any follow up to this safety incident.
I stayed at this hotel while traveling alone for business travel. Just before midnight I was woken by some loud noise that sounded like it was right outside my door. I got out of bed to check what was happening and found my door ajar. Luckily, I always use the deadbolt so whomever opened my door could only open it a few inches. I immediately closed the door, and called guest services. At this point, I was hoping that guest services would be able to tell me how/why this happened (another guest was accidentally checked into my room; housekeeping went to the wrong room, etc). It took 10 minutes for guest services to answer my call, and they then put me on hold. When I finally spoke to the front desk staff, she was very dismissive of my experience and concern. She told me that the reason that she wasn't able to answer my call was because she was on my floor checking on another room and there was no one on the 7th floor that could have opened my door. I asked her if she mistakenly opened my room door (3 rooms away from the room she said she had checked on) and she assured me that she absolutely did not. I asked her if there were any camera that she could check to see what occurred and she informed me that there were no cameras in the hotel. At this point she started gaslighting me and told me that the only way someone could have opened my door is if I had given someone my key. I asked her if there was another hotel employee that had access to a master key, and she told me that there were only 2 employees on duty and they were together, so it was impossible for someone to have opened my door. She told me that she could make me a new key and I could get it in the morning (when I was checking out). I told her that really didn't help, and then she offered to bring a new key up to my room. I was so shaken by this event that I checked out of the hotel at 1230am. The next morning I called and opened a case with Marriott Bonvoy, and then called the hotel and left a message with the manager. I have yet to receive a call back from either the hotel or corporate. I don't know how or why someone opened my room at midnight, but I do know that this hotel has shown that they don't really care about their...
