I arrived at the hotel late afternoon/early evening September 28 2021 after driving from the Phoenix area. My three night stay had been upgraded to a executive king suite. The hotel is just off the I-40 in Flagstaff, east of the downtown area. There is a gas station/convenience store abutting the parking lot of the hotel and a sit down restaurant, Oregano's, that does take out, on the adjoining lot. The hotel was built/opened in about 2017 so it is definitely newer. The desk staff was friendly and helpful when asked. I had a great view of the surrounding hills that were actually cinder cones from extinct volcanoes in the area. There was plenty of free parking. Some of the things that I like about Fairfield Inns is the free breakfast that includes hot food and a laundry room. About 15 miles up the road is Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument, a good place to hike, camp and see an extinct volcano with its surrounding cinder cones and lava fields. This is actually a place that has an area that allows physically disabled people to see the beauty of the cinder cones and lava fields without significant difficulty. All and all, I liked the hotel, its location and it is reasonably priced as a budget hotel in the Marriott group. I would stay there again without hesitation and I hope to again. Next time I hope to arrive in Flagstaff by train.

Outdated but kept clean and staff was very nice. Just a little bare bones. The breakfast was the most disappointing part; during the week, they only have prepackaged breakfast sandwiches and these egg muffin things. Neither look fresh or appetizing but other than those it’s oatmeal, cereal or waffles. On the weekend they had a couple other options but still nothing great, not the kind of breakfast I am used to from Fairfield’s; and we were there for 8 days so it was a bigger deal for us compared to if it was just 1 or 2 nights. The workout room had nice space to it, good cardio machines and dumbbells but nothing else - no mats, no other equipment. And they didn’t do a good job of restocking stuff like towels and cups. But the part I loved was the Brittany filter for water bottles in the fitness room - came out fast and great - wish all hotels had that. Rooms were clean and quiet. Easy parking. Restaurant next to it (Oreganos) was good.

I've stayed at a few Marriott Bonvoy Hotels, and this doesn't disappoint too much. It's the typical price of $200+ a night. The interior looks great, and the staff was super polite and friendly. The room definitely looked modern and newly renovated or well kept. One of the disappointments was that the towels were worn and raggedy. Would it hurt to put out newer and fluffier towels? My only other gripe is after a 13 hour drive, we stayed here for the comfort that we are used to, and you pay the price to know you'll get a good night's sleep. Unfortunately, that was not the case here. The bed was so lumpy and uncomfortable. We spent most of the night tossing and turning. We were hoping to get a good night's sleep for the long drive ahead the next day. Sadly, I got better comfort sleeping in my truck when I'm rotating driving with my husband.

As always a well kept property with good service as you would expect from a Marriott property. I liked the room arrangement and large desk area. Both a privacy shade and light blocking shade. Large shower and good amount of vanity counter top. Modern wall mounted AC controls. Good lighting.

However, I do have a few issues.

  1. Unfortunately as others have complained the mattress was not comfortable. Also the pillows had no cushion to them. When I put my head on one then the sides wrapped around my head making me feel hot and claustrophobic.

  2. Seems strange to assume that the more coffee drinkers prefer a bold blend rather than a more traditional mild breakfast blend. Please consider either switching to a milder blend or offering both.

  3. They have this Internet only feature that allow a method to log into a few apps such as YouTube. So many brands do not understand that many of us have many apps we like to use from Spotify, YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Plex, etc., which is why we carry a Fire TV Stick or Roku devices that are all pre-setup and logged in. All we need is one active HDMI port. I had to unplug the properties proprietary HDMI device to plug in my Roku stick in order to get it to work and then use the TVs remote for volume. I'm grateful the ports weren't locked down. For whatever reason I could not get my Roku to connect to the Wi-Fi network here. I ended up having to tether it to my phone which worked perfectly.

  4. I didn't notice any USB charging ports anywhere.

  5. I didn't know until after I got home and looked at the bill that they charged $5/day parking even for members. Really!

  6. They only they had meat such as sausage or bacon, only one of the two weekend days I was there. The eggs were...

The hotel is new and quite beautiful. My family was enjoying our stay very much until the end with the continental breakfast. I and my young family showed up for the continental breakfast at 8:00 AM. The dining hall was packed and with no where to sit, we returned an hour later. At 9:00 AM we once again found things busy and crowded, but luckily found a small table. Little did we know that seating was the least of our worries. We struggled to find any food to feed our children. They were out of milk. They were out of cereal. They were out of waffles and syrup. They were out of cranberry juice. They were out of butter. They were out of fruit and yogurt. The only thing that we could find to eat was toast and even then, there was a long line for it because that’s the only thing that you had in stock. It was almost comical when another hotel guest, who had finished dining, offered us her opened but leftover milk. I was hoping that we had just showed up at a temporary reprieve and you would be refilling items, but we were there for another half an hour and little was restocked. We ended up having to leave the hotel without breakfast for my young family which was one of the primary reasons that we picked this hotel. This was by far the worst continental breakfast we have ever had. It really was a shame to have such a beautiful hotel and leave with such an unfortunate experience. The service that we received was not consistent with what we expect from the...

This review is a reflection on the ownership. The owner needs to value the comfort of his guests; high/full occupancy must never be the sole goal.

Customer satisfaction must be the priority, especially in the hospitality industry.

On September 17th, my husband and I checked in. The room was fairly clean but the towels were very rough and looked a bit shoddy.

The hotel was booked at maximum occupancy but was impractically understaffed. Breakfast was the most unpleasant experience. Only one lady was running around bringing out food from the kitchen and simultaneously emptying out the trash can wearing the same gloves. She can’t be blamed because she was managing the entire breakfast area by herself.

Guests had to keep waiting for spoons to appear and for yogurt to be replenished etc. That too, there was no plain yogurt at all. The porridge in the pot was at the lowest possible level. Realistically, how much can one person do.

There were four hot dishes for non vegetarians; however, there was no entree for vegetarians. I was told by two employees that the quiche was made with egg whites; but egg whites are not plant based! Fortunately, I had my own breakfast food which I heated in the microwave in my room and ate.

Jackson Doren, the General Manager, interacted respectfully with appropriate decorum. He apologized and promised prompt improvement in the future. The owner is solely responsible for...
