This is the first PF that asked me to provide a photo ID to visit since I was out of state. I had to walk back to my car to get my wallet for this new requirement.
The manager asked me if I had a problem with that practice and I told him yes since I felt singled out as others were not identified as they checked in. I also told him that dozens of other gyms never asked for ID.
The manager did not care and told me that other gyms were not "doing it right". And this was for "my safety. " What a classic response whenever additional inconviences are forced onto customers.
I even stated that most folks like myself applied for membership online and that there is no photo section or mention for a photo in the application or profile.
He literally walked away and told me "fine" when I told him that I felt uncomfortable since this has never happened.
This was such poor management engagement that clearly set an unfriendly and unwelcoming environment.
Who would want to visit this gym after that type of response from a manager?
This manager clearly feels that he runs this gym correctly unlike the nationwide of PF gyms and I was the one with the problem.
UPDATE TO REPLY: The manager at this "private establishment" was confrontational and I find it deeply concerning how he felt that he must be the only Planet Fitness that does things right compared to the entire Planet Fitness franchise.
Your reply is completely pointless, after the fact now that I have long left the area. There is NO need for me to speak with another manager that I'm comfortable to speak to (aka NOT you).
I have traveled East to West coast to coast multiple times and I can confidently say that this Flagstaff AZ is the only Planet Fitness that has ID'd me and was confrontational. I've never had an employee call out my name and tell me to go to my state to get things fixed. I have never had a manager approach me wanting to know what my problem was and then tell me that everyone else is doing it wrong and was fine that I wasn't comfortable.
I have been welcomed to every other Planet Fitness across many states and cities by employees and managers. No ID checks, no confrontation, and no egotistical managers. No where does the Planet Fitness application or App state that I could be ID'd.
I have visited enough Planet Fitness across this nation to state confidently that the Flagstaff AZ Planet Fitness is the clear outlier and I hope someone from corporate reads this review.
Pointing out that you're a private establishment is just another way to say we can do whatever we want. Your justification keeps changing on why you wanted to ID me...it was for my security to preventing fraud. You changed your egotistical response from its policy to that you're a private establishment.
I joined a gym, not a security/policy company.
Since you felt the need to give me advise....its my turn. Put up a banner on the front your gym that states, "Private Establishment...we ID here." Give visiting black card members a warning before they have the unfortunate experience of stepping into your private establishment.
Also, remove any Planet Fitness mission statement signs in your gym that mentioned that everyone is welcomed and should be comfortable at these gyms. Remove any "Leave your ego" at the door signs. Finally, have Planet Fitness corporate hire you as their Chief Security Officer since you clearly have a pulse on gym security....though that would be a joke.
Nice closing statement since you and I don't get along. One would easily see such a statement as being sarcastic and inappropriate to your pointless response, "thank you and have a wonderful day" yourself.
I had a good day the minutes I drove away with the Flagstaff AZ Planet Fitness gym in my rear view mirror. Never again.
What an egoistical clown at the Flagstaff gym. I feel sorry for its employees and members that don't realize how that gym operates compared to the entire...
Read moreYou get a LOT for the price! I’d first begun my membership at PF in Phoenix area for the lower price & basic package. Which means just using the machines & equipment, at one chosen PF “home gym” location. When I moved to Flagstaff about a year ago, I upgraded. Now I pay about $30 for the Black Card Membership— which comes with the extra privileges—such as tanning, the red light therapy aka “total body enhancement”machine, and hydro-massage tables. I didn’t know how to do any of this—at first. You might have to ask them to explain how it all works. To use any one of these options, you always have to scan your membership # at the front desk. Then they tell you which room & activate the machine. If there’s someone already in there, there’s a sofa to sit & wait. Which I’ve only ever had to do a few times. When it’s super busy. You can’t go into the tanning bed or tanning booth or red light therapy rooms unless you show them you brought a pair of eye protection goggles (bc of the UV rays) with you. Understandable. So I got my own pair of durable reusable ones online for about $5. (They don’t sell them at the front desk). There have been times I was confused about the settings on the Total Body Enhancement. But there is a piece of paper back there with all the buttons labeled. I get a lot out of this experience: plenty of exercise equipment, rarely have to wait til someone’s done with their turn using it (which would be totally fine! This is a shared space. But I’m just sayin, it’s cool that they have enough to be busy with, even when it’s very crowded). Other guests tend to be polite & leave you alone in your zone, to do your thing. The music is usually poppin! I don’t bring my headphones, cuz I like what I hear. Clean showers! But they don’t have any towels to use, so pack for that. Plenty of big & empty lockers (bring your own lock). I feel comfortable getting naked in there without being creeped out. The staff: really nice & welcome you / say a pleasant farewell when you leave. They also offer group classes & personal training. Apparently you have to reserve a time for that in their app. I’ve never tried it. All & all, I do really like coming here! it’s pretty addictive!! I always end up being here way longer than I thought. One tiny complaint: I wish there were more “sanitizing stations” — where you can grab a bottle of spray to clean btwn people using a machine. They never “look” sweaty & gross. But sometimes there’s only one bottle of spray on a rack that could hold 2. The paper towels often empty out fast. Just a very minor thing...
Read moreI was deployed and froze my membership in the middle of August, but they still billed me in sept 25.52 plus 49.00, I called them and they said no worries I'll re freeze it, still got billed in Oct 25.51, again i called, still got billed in Nov 25.51 called and told same story everything is fine and will be taken care of, but now I said cancel my membership via Jordan the manager, but he didnt, how do i know you ask, got billed again in dec but now through my bank with late fees $38.49, I then told jordan to cancel my membership again, still got billed, called them again still got billed, 14 calls latter I'm still short alot of money. Now they bill my bank with late fees plus the monthly. I continue to be billed every single month since Sept, plus the annual of 49.00. I've made numerous good faith attempts to cancel my membership and only have one small refund from one of the months. It's poorly run and crowded, especially when they give out free memberships to the local college, I wouldn't go here again and can't possibly recommend it. Homeless people just walk in and use the facilities and walk out. It's Dec and I assume I'll still get billed for Jan, I've called my cc and my bank to try and block further billing and have only received one small return for only one month. I'm still over billed 138.51 and Jordan refuses to give my money back for a gym I haven't used since September. It doesn't even deserve one star. :( nice way to...
