First off, after reading reviews the morning of checkout I noticed the responses from owner always respond to positive reviews but only respond to about ⅓ of the negative. I've also noticed that they mention how sorry they are and the issues mentioned do not reflect their standards but never report of HOW they will or have addressed--just that they will.
Several reviews ago, I read that someone had no phone in their room, while others said they a cord no phone. My room has no phone. No shower mat. I refuse to look any closer. It's quite depressing.
If it weren't for my late check-in (1am-ish,) and had I not been so exceptionally tired, I would have spoken to the guy at the front desk. This morning I called the front desk (from my cell phone) and was immediately placed on hold for one minute. The gal who came on the line sounded irritated and was not at all hospitable. I relayed the same info I just wrote about in this review to the young lady as well as a request for late checkout. She said 1pm was the latest (which was great) and then before hanging up I advised/reminded her to place a phone in our room for the next lodgers. She mumbled something repeatedly and finally on her 3rd attempt she said 'have a good one.' Not once did she validate anything I said.
She's either tired of hearing everyone's complaints, or maybe she's an owner and figured out that 'have a good one' could be her way of saying 'bugger off ' without having even worse complaints.
I'd love to see if the owner actually takes these reviews seriously by hearing and saying HOW they're gonna bring this property up to standard rather than agreeing that dirty sheets, no phone, filth galore, no phone, and oh yeah: NO HBO! Is unacceptable. Even the cheap roach motels on VanBuren near Grand Ave have HBO (so says a friend). What's up with that.
A sincere plea to the Owner: just because you're a cheap option in flag doesn't excuse you from providing CLEAN accommodations with national standard items like a PHONE. Aren't you ashamed of so many reviews about the same things over and over and over a long period of time, yet you have done nothing that I can see to make changes? Is it your staff? The housekeepers can't keep house? You don't have any phone anywhere?
If you don't know how to improve the property, there's no shame on hiring someone who does. That extra expense will pay dividends with repeat customers rather that losing the ones who've had bad experiences as well as the potential ones you'll never see because of the reviews you've allowed to stack up. Maybe walk thru every room and take notes of what needs improvement, and then delegate those things that need attention to your staff. Check the rooms that they've attended. Replace the staff who aren't doing their job properly even after you come up with a training manual. Something. Let this place with do much potential shine!
Good luck, I sincerely hope that you make changes instead of just agreeing that they need to be made?
Edit: I removed a comment that was rude and had nothing to do with the issue I'm hoping to address. Owner, if you read that, I apologize, I hope you can forgive my ugly comment that was personal. I am...
Read moreI was originally going to stay at the motel 6 that was also on East butler ave.,but after reading reviews about bed bugs, I canceled my reservation, and found this place. I booked through Expedia and got a standard room with a king sized bed, and check in was easy and fast, and I paid $85 for one night, which was only 5 dollars more than motel 6 for the night. We walked in after being on the road for 7 hrs coming from vegas.....hotel aspen has beautiful views, lots of restaurants close by, and the room looked really nice when we walked in. The room had a big tv with lots of channels, had a rain shower , microwave and refrigerator. As our night progressed, we noticed the heater became louder and louder, sounding like it was going to break at any given time( thankfully it didn't, and kept us warm, considering it was 21 degrees the next morning. )....the water in the shower was nice and hot, with good water pressure. The bathroom was a tad small, and didn't have a towel rack, but we made do. The refrigerator was a good size, and was cold, but in the morning, there was a puddle of water in there that ruined about $40 in groceries. They provided a keurig coffee maker, but didn't work, so maintenance brought us a new one, but put it in our room when we were gone to dinner, and didn't have permission to go in our room when we weren't there, but nothing is missing, so that's good.(in the past at a different motel, we've had a few things/medication stolen by maintenance/ cleaning crew while we were out exploring the town, in Bakersfield....so along with the obnoxiously loud heater, the guests in the room above us on the 2nd floor, were up most of the night, walking around their room, and it sounded like the ceiling was gonna cave in. So we didn't sleep too well. The rooms needed a things to make it look nicer, like new flooring and a new vanity (or restore the original vanity, by painting it). Lastly, when taking my service dogs out potty, I noticed large shards of metal from maintenance replacing the stairwells. My dog cut her foot open, as I didn't see the metal until it was too late. If it was light outside, I wouldn't have taken them potty there because I would have seen the sharp shards of metal sitting there....aside from those few issues, I'd give this place a 3.9 out of 5 stars...it was still...
Read moreDisappointing Experience - Not What We Expected
We booked a stay here while returning from a camping trip to California, drawn in by the appealing price and some photos that made the property seem like a reasonable option for a quick overnight rest. Unfortunately, our experience did not align with the expectations set by the listing.
Upon entering our room, we were immediately greeted by a strong, unpleasant odor, reminiscent of urine and mold. While we’ve stayed in various accommodations during our travels, including campsites and Airbnbs, we did not expect anything extravagant—but cleanliness and basic upkeep are non-negotiable.
The issues we encountered were numerous:
Bedding: The bed had visible stains, which was concerning. Bathroom: The shower featured extensive mold, and there was noticeable water damage on the ceiling, with chunks of material visibly falling into the shower area. Air Conditioning: The air conditioning unit appeared to have been neglected for months; the filter was caked in dust, and air flow was virtually nonexistent. After inspecting it, we found the filter in poor condition, contributing to the lack of cool air. Bedding & Pillows: The bed lacked protective covers, and the pillowcases were stained with what appeared to be blood and sweat, which was quite disturbing.
I raised these concerns with the front desk staff, and while they acknowledged the issues, they informed me that refunds were not possible. I emphasized that I was simply seeking a clean, habitable room, but the response was dismissive at best. While the staff were polite, the lack of concern suggested a deeper issue with management and the overall standards of the property.
We were eventually moved to a second room, which had its own set of issues. The bathroom floor was soaked due to a leaking shower, and despite my attempts to turn off the water, the shower faucet was stuck in the “on” position.
Ultimately, we chose to leave the hotel and find alternative accommodations. Interestingly, the staff at the next place we stayed also commented on the poor condition of this hotel.
In summary, this experience reinforced the adage: “You get what you pay for.” Unfortunately, this property falls short of even basic expectations, and I would rather return to camping...
