We were staying one night at the Baymont after visiting Mesa Verde. The hotels in this area are expensive for the quality, so we stayed here as it was a good price and seemed like a decent place. The hotel is similar to an Embassy Suites, with many rooms facing indoors to a large “courtyard” type area with a swimming pool. There are also rooms that face out. We had reserved a King suite, and when we first entered the lobby it was warm and humid and smelled a bit fusty. You could smell the pool - and definitely hear the kids playing in it. The staff was really nice, super friendly, a tad casual, but no complaints there at all; however, there was just an overall unsettling vibe to the place. Honestly, it didn’t seem super clean. We got to our indoor facing room, and it definitely looked dated. It was also extremely cold. When we turned on the heat, nothing happened. We called downstairs and someone came up to look at it. They said the heat wasn’t working and they’d need to move us to another room. As it turned out, they didn’t have any other king suites available, but they said they had a room with two queen beds. I thought that was odd - and I was right. It was two doubles. This was an out-facing room, which was fine at that point, even though we preferred one facing inside for security reasons. It doesn’t seem like they clean the rooms regularly or that housekeeping is particularly diligent. There was only one bar of soap in the room, and no liquid soap for the shower. So that was really odd. We didn’t realize it until we were showering, so we just used the one bar for both the sink and shower. I would recommend checking the room. It did look like there was a room next to us that never got serviced after checkout, so maybe they’re short staffed.
Breakfast was downstairs in a very large room - it was almost like a meal in a church meeting room. The food was fine, standard fare for that type of hotel. When we went to check out, my husband said he wanted a refund for the difference in cost between the two rooms. So they refunded a bogus “pet fee” (we didn’t have any pets with us) to make up the difference. Overall, it just wasn’t the...
Read moreThings started off extremely well at reception and continued throughout the stay. Renee checked us in with great personality. She made us feel like we were going to be her only customers for the day. We ask for referrals for local favorite restaurants and she was very forthcoming, including descriptions and what she liked and disliked about each. We ask if we could have a room at the back if there was a view. She said there definitely was a view and she would be more than happy to arrange a room, cautioning that we would have to enter the room from the exterior. Although the rooms were a little dated, and could use some touch-up... Especially in the bathroom, they were more than adequate. The beds were very comfortable. The pillows were just right for me. The TV was of good quality, although we didn't spend much time with it. The heater / air conditioner worked very well. The view was quite spectacular, both before the snow and after. The hot tub was nice and warm. The breakfast offerings were diverse, and quite adequate The waffles were quite good. There were two ways to cook waffles, which is unusual in my experience. A few things that I did not care for. There was no freezer compartment in the fridge. There were not enough convenient locations to plug in electronics. There were no extra blankets. The indoor pool was a little too chilly for this old boy. The hot tub was old school, and was insufficiently jetted. We had to go to the desk to find out how to turn the hot tub on. There were no instructions/channel guides for the TV. There was no soft or liquid butter for pancakes/waffles. By the time the butter melted the waffles were cold. There was no sugar-free syrup available. The egg and cheese omelettes were cold, and there was no way to heat them up. Overall, I would rate this facility as an 8.5. It provides for all your basic needs at a very...
Read moreI bet this hotel was amazing in its prime (1980s) because that’s the era it looks like it’s stuck in. It wasn’t dirty per say it just needs some updating and maintenance. Which I think they are slowly working on because I seen people remodeling some of the first floor rooms.
This is kind of a hybrid indoor/outdoor hotel. Some of the rooms have doors that you can access from the outside and then there are some rooms on the inside. The outdoor rooms are connected by a hallway leading indoors and the door connecting the hallways are left open all the time.
The toilet paper is something to note: so thin and scratchy someone in our party had to buy some softer toilet paper at Walmart that they could use. There was also no hand soap. Bought some at Walmart also.
The hot-tub was like luke warm bath water. That was disappointing.
At about 9-10pm the fire alarm went off. We went out in the hallway to find it a bit hazy. We found out from other guests that a vending machine on the second floor was smoking. I don’t know how Colorado works but where I’m from if the fire alarm goes off the fire department is dispatched to the location to clear it. No matter if it was pulled as a prank or serious matter. There werent officials or anyone to come check it out. No communication or anything. We just waited a bit and decided to go back to our room to sleep hoping the place didn’t burn down. At least the fire alarms work.
Overall I think they are doing the best they can with what they have. Maybe it is a management issue, and slowing fixing things. Everyone we encountered was friendly. It’s such a beautiful area with a beautiful view. It was cheaper than the surrounding hotels so take that into...
