Southwest Donuts — Restaurant in Cortez

I stopped in early on a Friday morning to get my family a treat. I was right behind a 7yr old boy who was apparently a regular getting his tri-weekly donut. The owner was super courteous. My husband says these were the best donuts he's ever had. He split an apple fritter, chocolate log and maple log w/ bacon with our son who says they're 'Excellent'. My GF son got to try all the gluten free flavors available today as well, and loved them. They were the minis, but priced accordingly so you could try all the flavors. Husband and I thought we would try them out and support local. We bought 6 cake doughnuts. They were small, so small most of them were more of a blob shape than round with a hole. They were very dense and greasy. I don’t mind paying a little more for quality, I didn’t find it here. The only other flavored doughnut besides plain is chocolate, if it has a flavor it is a glaze on top and not in the doughnut. We didn’t try the raised but they weren’t much bigger. Rolling through Cortez today I had the immediate need for Donuts. I wish I caught the name of the absolute gem at Southwest that gifted me a large box of donuts after seeing my look of absolute devastation that I had turned up 4 minutes after closing. Free donuts are always good, but when they're the best donuts to begin with, no such kinder gesture exists.
