This is pretty much the only option for lodging a large group in Little Cottonwood Canyon. I was excited to find that, with the Mountain Collective pass, there was a great deal to be had. So, I booked a bi-level room at the Lodge--the pictures looked gorgeous. Why they named one hotel the Lodge and the other the Cliff Lodge, I've been wondering for years.||||My five buddies and I all arrived on a Thursday night. As soon as we congregated, we became aware of the mountain pass being closed for the night. This meant that we could not reach our hotel under any circumstances. One of my buddies called the hotel, spoke to "a manager," and was told that we could stay at one of the cheap places in town and would be taken care of. Cool, we thought. That would make the best out of a bad situation. We made the reservations, re-arranged our shuttle for the morning, and proceeded to a cheap hotel downtown. Many others seemed to do the same thing.||||The next morning (er, afternoon), we finally made it to the Lodge at Snowbird. In front of us, a guest we didn't know repeated the exact same guarantee that my friend was told. The man behind the front desk responded that he had worked there for some amount of years and he had "never heard of that." Rather than providing a manager's information, he kind of shooed the guest away. We checked in and said the same thing, we were shooed away in the same manner (and proceeded to get at least two hours of skiing in, so we were somewhat placated).||||Our stay was quite nice. The guestroom had a wonderful view. The lack of breakfast wasn't great, but the restaurant at the base of the lodge is very possibly the best in all of Snowbird behind Aerie, so it balances out. The pool area isn't much compared to the Cliff Lodge, suffering both from kids running around and random locals piggybacking their way in. Still, totally reasonable for the price.||||Anyway, the trip ended, we asked one last time for some type of refund, and didn't get one. When filing a claim for my credit card's insurance benefit, I had to produce a cancellation policy that specifically stated that the pass closure was not covered (yes, even insurance people were in disbelief that this was not in some way covered). I searched high and low, even on cached pages, and couldn't find it. I called the hotel and figured, hey, maybe it's not policy after all, but was told: "oh yeah that's definitely our policy, what's a good email address to send it to?" then waited three days, then called back, and, well, you get the picture. I never received the official road closure refund policy.||||When you're talking about a hotel room in NYC or another high-traffic area, of course you can use the excuse that a room already being rented represents an opportunity cost that a traveler who can't reach his destination will have to eat. But a room at a condo-hotel serviced by a single, snaking two-lane road? That closes indiscriminately? They still would have made money after paying for our $80/night hotel rooms. The fact of the matter is that we were misled by a manager of this hotel which added unneeded stress to what turned out to be a very...
Read moreWe have been to Snowbird for several family reunions. This time we had 6 different family groups staying in 6 separate units. Each unit had a full kitchen and then an attached bedroom. There was room for 6 to sleep in each unit. We were hoping to rent a larger unit for our meals, but there weren’t any available, so we rotated rooms to have our meals in. ||We were pleased at the discounts we got on both our room and the all day summer activity passes. We had 14 grandchildren. All but one baby participated and thoroughly enjoyed the activities. The best time to go was right at opening at 11a.m. and then in the evening about 6 pm. the rides emptied right out and we had them to ourselves until close at 8 pm. We were able to go back to the room have a bite to eat and then go back out again.||The rooms are a bit dated, and yes it did get warm without any air conditioning. We left the screen doors open while we were in the room, but didn’t feel comfortable at night leaving them open as we shared the deck with several other rooms. (I apologize if my grandkids bothered any of the people in the other rooms. We tried to keep them right outside our room).||Positives|1) Fantastic view of the mountains, the view can’t be beat. We saw a moose outside on our first evening there|2) TV, bathroom and beds all in good working condition and clean|3) Hot chocolate, apple cider available in the front lobby for free|4) Swimming pool nice temperature|5) Extremely courteous front desk personnel. |6). KC from maintenance was a fabulous help. We tried to tip him and he declined the tip saying his job was to make our trip as good as possible. He put baby safety railings up outside one of the rooms, added two leaves to our table to make it bigger, brought in extra chairs, and helped us in other ways. |7) Beautiful location for morning hikes||Cons:|The group of young men at a seminar were very rowdy at night. We could hear their conversations in our room at night from the hot tub. They were really not appropriate conversations for families. Fortunately they shut down at 10 p.m. and it was quiet afterwards. ||Overall we love Snowbird. The Lodge a great place to have a group and cook your own meals. We will continue to come back in...
Read moreWe arrived very late at night. We had reserved a studio loft. When we got to the room it was a plain studio. We had already dragged all the bags up and it was after 2 in the morning. I returned to the front desk and explained to the clerk and related we would change in the morning. The next morning I went down the front desk and explained our situation. The desk clerk explained it was the same room just not in a loft set up, and it is actually better and most people prefer the set up we had and I should want this set up. I dont appreciate being old what I want. There was a reason we wanted the loft setup. I just didn't have the energy to fight.||The room was recently redone with brand new modern bathrooms and kitchen. The bedroom was comfortable and sparse. The views from the room were amazing. It wasn't what I reserved though. ||Despite the recent renovations the building is weird and there is a dated feel to the unit.||We were in the farthest room from the elevator and that was one of the reasons I didn't fight about moving, hoping it would be quiet. However one night there was a group in the adjacent room. They were loud and the walls were very thin. We could hear everything. At 10 PM I called the from desk and in about 15 minutes it got quiet. We never heard or saw anyone in that room again. I would be concerned if the hotel was full about the noise. ||The facilities were OK. The hot tub and pool were frequently full with children. The gym was small but functional.||This is not a Ski in/Ski out. It is a one block walk to the Snowbird Center and up flights of stairs. There also is a hike up on the other side of Snowbird Center if you want to go to Peruvian or Gad lifts. ||We skied Alta one day and the hotel did send over a car to pick us up which was really nice not to have to cross over...
