The Painted Cat of Galena — Hotel in Galena

If you’re considering whether or not to stay at The Painted Cat, I have two words for you: book immediately! We had the loveliest stay and will be recommending this bed and breakfast to anyone who will listen. The architecture and history of the home is beautiful, and the owners Cory and Mariel are warm and welcoming. They have clearly put a lot of love into making this dream of theirs come true. We felt safe and cozy and became quick friends with Kevin, their cuddly house cat (1 of 4!). We stayed in the Persian Room which was bright, pink, and playful. It was a comfy stay for 2 guests and we enjoyed the Victorian and cat antique themes across the whole house. Spending time in the screened porch was perfect for starting the morning and ending the night before heading up to your room. The provided refreshments and snacks are thoughtful and came in handy for our late movie night. Plated Sunday brunch in the dining room was so delicious and the owners use their own fresh homegrown vegetables and eggs from their chicken coop. Plus it was easy to find street parking conveniently located right in front of the property. While we personally didn’t walk to Main Street or other nearby attractions due to the heat during our visit, they are walkable for the able bodied. My boyfriend summarizes it well: “there is nowhere else in Galena we would rather be.” We miss the place already and look forward...

If you are a cat lover, this is it!

We stayed at Painted Cat for our second anniversary, and had the most wonderful time in the Persian Room. The Persian Room features a private bathroom and a wonderful outlook for the street view.

Right when we went through the door, we were greeted by Kevin (the black cat) and our host Cory. We were spoiled with friendly cats, indoor and outdoor. Kevin even slept with us in our room, we will always treasure that bond we had.

If you are foodie like myself, be sure to stay til Sunday. That is when they serve home made breakfast(eggs sourced straight from the chickens in the yard), and you even get to feed the chickens yourself afterwards!

Not to mention how close the Painted cat is to downtown galena. It’s a short 10min leisure walk before you hit all of the shops.

This was the best bed and breakfast experience. Cory and Mariel are the most wonderful hosts. I felt welcomed, the hospitality was immaculate, and the vibes were exquisite. The breakfast, pastries, and coffee were homemade and absolutely delicious. The kitties themselves and the theme made the experience so delightful and fun. I can’t wait to come here again! Thank you Cory and Mariel for such a beautiful amazing time! If I could give more than 5 stars I would, this was a 100000/10!

The rooms and home are well taken care of, the refreshments station outside the rooms was a well thought out idea, the porch was cozy, the common areas like the library and parlor were super cool and interesting to spend time in.
