I visited this place on hot summer day and sat outside. My visit was rather short, but I few things I enjoyed eventhough I'm far from being a Mexican food connoisseur:

1.- They bring your beer along with a white-cold glass that makes it just perfect; this is how I want my beer during summer! I don't know if this is standard or we just got lucky our server pulled the right glasses, but this alone was enough to make me wanna leave a thumbs up.

2.- They serve your table with some sort of chips/nachos (whose name I should probably know) with a mildly spicy sauce that was just really good, at no extra charge.

3.- I had some kind of stake that came with salad and yellow rice, besides beans and some kind of tortilla. The rice is one of the best I've had in very long time. I don't know what kind it is or what preparation it had, it was just really really good. The stake was also very great, thought a bit too thin.

The hostess was a bit strange, she took a little a too long to give us a seat, and at some point we felt ignored, but our server was very attentive and soon we forgot about this.

As to the prices, I would say everything is $2 dollars more expensive than it should be, if that makes any sense.

As to the place, I wouldn't say it's the nicest place in town, but they do have a nice terrace for those who like enjoying the sun and the wind under a shadowy umbrella. Inside the place seemed very small, from what little I got to see, but all in all it's a place worth visiting. I wouldn't say it's place to have a fancy dinner, but it's probably a good place to have a nice while with friends or family while you eat good food, have a beer and talk. Sort of like the kind of place you go back to every...

The good: the wait staff was very kind and pleasant.

The bad: we got seated in a small little off shoot of the building with lots of windows. It was hot and swarming with flies. Flies were swarming and landing all over us within seconds of sitting down. I requested to move due to the flies and we were seated somewhere else in the restaurant. We sat down and went to pour water into my own glass. Luckily they don’t do that for you because I would likely have not noticed that my water glass disgustingly dirty, similarly to the menus. Our menus had dried cilantro and salsa on it and the pages were sticky. The margaritas were served in a hot glass, were weak, and tasted like a generic marg mix. I can’t comment on the taste of the pico de Gallo, as ours was served with wilted and bad tomatoes. But I can comment that their tortilla chips were stale. But probably would taste great if they were served fresh. My wife maybe had 2 bites of her food and had them throw it away. Mine wasn’t terrible. I ate the majority of my food but it is nowhere near top notch and does not justify the cost.

It was also interesting to watch the staff continue to seat people in the area with all the flies. I could tell it was a problem for everyone who sat down but didn’t appear that...

I don’t usually leave reviews, but I’ve honestly never been treated this way at a restaurant. The food was extremely overpriced for the quality, and when I ordered a burrito I was given an option that wasn’t clearly explained. It ended up adding a $3 charge for cheese, which I only realized after the fact. I’m sure it was on the menu, but the way it was presented made it seem like a standard part of the dish.

Our waiter Joe was attentive and incredible, so this isn’t about him at all. The problem was another waitress who overheard our private conversation and came over to scold me, insisting the charge was on the menu and that saying we didn’t like the food was “disrespectful.” Even after I explained that we had no issue with our server and meant no disrespect, she continued arguing.

When we brought this to the manager, his response was simply, “She overheard you, what am I supposed to do?”

We left feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable. We do not recommend this restaurant and will not be returning.

Update: after I posted this review, I noticed a sudden influx of generic 5-star reviews clearly written by AI. It seems the restaurant is trying to bury criticism rather than address it, which only confirms the unprofessionalism we...

Pretty solid place we found by surprise in Galena, IL. There are actually quite a few "Mexican" restaurants in the town, but most are catering the usual margaritas and fajitas and that's it. This one had a more interesting menu with things like cochinita pibil and other more traditional dishes. My family is Mexican, and we all found the food to be pretty good. The food was a bit light on the seasoning, but probably right for the mostly non-mexican clientele they probably get. My sister had a seafood soup, I had the shrimp in salsa, and my mom had the nopal salad and a chicken taco. God portion sizes. We would have been more adventurous with their menu but got full after the generous appetizer. The Chucky guac was my favorite dish of the night, and they make a nice standard margarita. Nice waiter. Honestly, the experience would have been better if there hadn't been so many tipsy white folks being annoying to the live musician and wait staff, and if the live music had been a little quieter since there weren't *that* many people thst earky in the evening to justify the loudness of the sound system (it was getting full by the time we left), but the live musician was actually pretty good, so it was a nice time overall.
