The good: The house is pretty and clean. It is convenient to downtown Galesburg. There is ample parking.||The less good: The breakfast consisted of a few Yoplait yogurts that guests were to get out of the refrigerator on their own. Guests could make their own coffee; no milk or cream was provided. I asked the owner and house manager, who were never on site, if this was what was intended. I was told that I should have known what to expect based on the house rules. I would have had a better breakfast at any of the cheaper motels in town.||The rooms are advertised as accommodating up to three people: this assumes that two will share the bed and the third will get an air mattress on the floor. The air mattress leaked and was flat by morning. No one responded to my text about that.||The nightly rate is quite a bit higher than the advertised price: there is a $25 cleaning fee per room, which is not disclosed until booking.||The owner asked me not to write a review because their five-star review is very important to them. I was disappointed that they were more concerned about their review than about...
Read moreThis elegant mansion is a delight and loaded with local history, just north of downtown and Knox College. You can get anywhere is about 5 mins. The kitchen has everything you need, including 2 refrigerators. There’s coffee making supplies in the kitchen and a great little Kurig station upstairs, too. The bedrooms were large and beautifully decorated. Be aware the stairs to the 2nd floor are a bit steep (you only notice it on the way down.) We stayed for a family reunion and used the home as a gathering spot. The weather was great so we were able to enjoy both outside spaces, front & back and one of the living room/music parlor were ample enough to accommodate 18 of us after moving in dining room chairs. Full disclosure - our family is direct descendants of the original owners, Silas & Cordelia Willard. Linda was great host answering all our pre-arrival questions and giving us a tour of the home. You may want to confirm the best method of contact for her once...
Read moreMy husband I recently stayed at The Great House of Galesburg. It was wonderful to have such a comfortable, spacious and grand home to relax in before boarding a train for a two day trip home to CA. Linda was in contact prior to our arrival, and during our stay, via text and email, alerting us when our room was ready (early) and allowing us to check out a little later since our train was arriving later afternoon day of our departure. We had the opportunity to meet her before we left and were given shop and cafe recommendations and more history about the home and area. She was very friendly, helpful, kind and accommodating. The home was very clean and was a treasure trove of historical information, including a set up of a possible/probable Underground Railroad scenario. There is plenty of parking in back and some great dining and shopping venues nearby. We were very happy to have...
