Went to Galesburg specifically to get Baked! No, not that kind of baked, Baked pizza. I have read great things about this spot and I have to say it was darn good pie.
Nestled in the downtown area of Galesburg this little pizzeria had a mellow atmosphere. We were greeted with a smile and a great description of the food and what was the specialty. Also what folks seemed to like the most. I really liked the decor. Simple and quirky. The walls were covered in chalk graffiti that patrons were encouraged to draw on while they waited for their food. The tables I loved, old school 50s era aluminum and acrylic. My grandparents had one of these so the nostalgia was cool. All the chairs were mismatched. Aside from that it was pretty basic.....except for the food.
We had a white sausage pie which was without red sauce. Instead it had olive oil and herbs. In fact all our pies were like that. Definitely something new for us, but a present surprise. Loaded with sausage and cheese, this was my 3rd favorite but really tasty.
We also tried the goat cheese pizza. A cheese pizza with plenty of goat cheese and cilantro. Paired with the same hand tossed crust with oil and herbs. This was a creamy goat cheese delight. The cilantro gave it just a hint of something different. Man this was good. My second fav pie.
The 3rd pie we had was my absolute fav. The spinach and artichoke pizza. Covers with loads of artichokes, mozzarella and finished again with that oil and herb hitter this was great. The artichokes gave it a nice tang that was offset with the salty smoothness of the cheese oil and herbs. I could down a whole pie of this delight. Top notch for sure.
The garlic bread was a nice opener that was a flatbread oiled, hit with hose herbs and paired with the red sauce. A solid opening act where I really enjoyed the sauce. Perfectly seasoned and very smooth. Next time I get that sauce on a pie. I don't think you can go wrong.
Overall this was a very cool place, great and helpful service and most of all very solid food. We will be back and do yourself a favor......go get "Baked" (pizza) in...
Read moreI've always been a big fan of small towns, and Galesburg is as small as a rail town can be. But for this town, there is history along with good food from great restaurants. And Baked (pizzas) is one of those restaurants that I'm glad I got to experience. After learning a bit about the store and it's history, I ordered myself the food, and after fifteen minutes, I was served.
For starters, let's talk about the drink that I got. They serve soda and liquor but I was feeling Root Beer, and this was 1919 brand root beer. If you know, you know. They then did an appetizer of a baguette toasted and served with butter and garlic oil, a delectable pairing. Then, finally, the pizza, which was a five cheese pizza 12'. I LOVED this pizza! It was delicious, which is odd for it being just cheese pizza but...hey why not?
Then there is the store itself. The walls have writing on it from last customers leaving a drawing, an inspiring quote, or something in between. The workers are fun and quick to help, and it's all just...so nice. I can't really describe it any better than that.
So, if you live in or near Galesburg, or you are just stopping by after getting off the train, get here! It's worth the time and the trip, absolutely!
So, what are you waiting...
Read moreHeard great reviews about this place and read an article last year that they were ranked top three in the state of Illinois for best pizza which is a very bold statement.
Finally able to stop in and check this place out. Went with the recommendation I was given on ordering the sweet corn Pizza. Was good. Not amazing but good. I think some of the reviews are comparing apples to oranges as when you think of Chicago Pizza versus this place they're not the same. I also am not a fan of white sauce on pizza so I need to give this place a second opinion and stop in and try a red sauce pizza.
Overall, great experience great atmosphere and a very tasty pizza. I will happily stop in again to try something else off the menu and an update my review when that time comes.
Other things to note, free parking on the street otherwise there's a parking lot down the road about a block. Seating is moderate. Probably not meant for large groups of people but you could easily fit 30- 40 people.
Leslie, the prices did reflect the quality and quantity of the pizza. My 12-in specialty pizza came out...
