Two other family members and I stayed with our spouses at the San Gabriel House B&B for a reunion and it was marvelous. The house is completely restored and decorated in antiques. It is a historic home dating back to 1904. When you arrive and ring the doorbell you are greeted by the innskeeper, Danni. She will give you a complete history of the home and give you a key that allows you in the house and your bedroom. Downstairs is a large entry hall, parlor and dining room. Upstairs are 5 large guest rooms each decorated in a different color scheme. The furniture is beautiful. The five rooms open to a large common room fully stocked with Keurig coffee maker and multiple choices of coffee pods, a tea kettle with a variety of tea bags and a refrigerator stocked with can drinks and water. It is a full size refrigerator so if you have items to put in it, there is ample room and post it notes and a marker are provided to label your food. The wood floors throughout the house are in perfect condition and the rugs are gorgeous There is seating on a porch and outside in the backyard. A highlight was the breakfasts. Danni, her husband and a cook serve different food every morning. It is presented in 3 courses and is so exceptional Danni tells you about each course once it is served. Every possible desire has been carefully planned for so you won't be disappointed. The scones one day were incredible as were the biscuits the next. You were given a few extra of these to take with you each day. I wished we were staying longer so I could try more of her menus. |The window air-conditioning in each room drones out any street noise or sounds from other rooms so noise is not an issue. Sheets and pillows were of excellent quality. This place exceeded all of our expectations. I...
Read moreWonderful true B&B experience! The mansion was clean, grand and so much more beautiful than the pictures. We arrived and were greeted by the friendly Innkeepers. They gave us a map of town square and an overview of all the town offers with the local spots to eat, shop and entertain ourselves. So much to do here! They told us the history of the home and were given a tour of the property.
So many historical and beautiful details and antiques are throughout the home. We stayed in the Bishop's Rose suite. The shower was not as tight as I expected it to be. Bed was very comfy. Linens, pillows and towels were soft. The A/C kept our room plenty cool in the 100+ degree summer heat.
We met Kizmet the cat and he was so friendly and sweet. Also glad he is able to take refruge in part of the cottage house from inclement weather and heat. The front balcony has a porch swing you can sit in. It was neat to sneak up behind the main stairs through the servant's staircase.
The fancy breakfast was amazing in the elegant dining room at a beautifully set table. Danni is an excellent cook! Breakfast was mixed fruit with homemade cream. Quiche, ham, tomatoes and lemon scones were the main course. Everything was served on china and crystal including coffee and juice. It was interesting meeting and dining with the other guests.
Upstairs there was bottled water, sodas and coffee available for self serve au gratis. Although we didn't play any games, they were availabe in the upstairs common area. There is only one television downstairs and it was not needed at all. Having stayed one night, the only thing we lacked was getting to staying longer.
This is def somewhere we will be staying again on our next trip to the charming town...
Read moreWe hosted a wedding reception for our daughter in the back garden, with beautiful tents and lights, a catered dinner (from CJ's, which we highly recommend), and about 35 guests. The setting is quaint and perfect for a small to medium-sized gathering. The wedding party slept in all of the gorgeous rooms upstairs, each with a bath, and with a common room in the middle. It was absolutely perfect for them to enjoy the night together after the reception. While the bride and groom could have enjoyed the separate garage apartment, they decided to stay with their friends in the upstairs rooms. Dani and Jeanie provided a delicious breakfast downstairs in this lovely historic home. They are rightfully proud of its heritage and are delighted to share the history of the home with you. The front porch is a perfect respite, with it's rocking chairs and wicker furniture. The location directly across from Southwestern University is perfect for those visiting the university, or one of the many festivals...
