Our first visit to the restaurant was interesting. The atmosphere is very nice. Steak houses are usually dark and grimy. City Post is bright, airy and spacious. We sat in a middle table facing the chefs and behind us a few tables a piano play started some nice tunes. The tunes were a bit loud but the restaurant was somewhat loud due to the high echoing ceilings. Still, the inside was nice and clean. The service was great. Our server was very attentive and didn't rush us to order. We spent an hour and fifteen minutes eating. The lady has a white wine that she liked. The son and I had water. We did not have bread - didn't see it on the menu but most other tables had a round loaf of bread. We started with a salad which was very good - crispy and tasty. We ordered a family size of Brussel sprouts to share as an appetizer. They had no sauce, just some pepper and salt; a bit plain for my taste. My son ordered the lobster roll and fries The lobster was large and tasted good. He commented that the roll was very tough and toasted, as opposed to the normal soft bread we find in the NE. The fries came an a paper lined glass and most were dark brown and over cooked plus soggy. I had a Chilean sea bass. It was small about an inch thick. One end was tender, the other was over cooked and dry. That is hard to do with sea bass. The asparagus under the fish were cooked well. The lady has filet mignon cooked medium. Well it was cooked more like well done. She commented that the steak was salty and dry. She likes salt on food too. It was dry. The poor steak was served in the middle of a plate with nothing else. We ordered a family sized french fry and it was served the same as the lobster role side. It was hardy a family sized portion. Again, the fries were brown and soggy. It is hard to complain when you are in the middle table of a restaurant and the high school kid doesn't want to be embarrassed. I didn't feel like complaining as it was our anniversary. We shared a key lime pike that was delicious. The meal with tip was $200. For the quality of the food, it is way overpriced considering other restaurants in Gt. Not sure if we will return as that is a heft price to pay for a sub-par meal.

My wife and I looked forward to our reservation at City Post. We like trying new places and this looked promising. First, the good: The aura is great, and it felt upscale without being stuffy. We loved the little touches like the stamp on the ice cube in my old fashioned. Also, we added grilled shrimp to my entree, and I appreciated they removed the entire shell so that no meat was inside and only actual tail fins were attached. The service was also terrific. My wife's lobster roll was really good as was my dry aged rib eye. The less than stellar: the fries with the lobster roll were all but inedible; not crisp, not very flavorful and almost seemed like an after thought. The lobster mac and cheese was ok, but we expected it to be really good given the nature of City Post. We like eating at restaurants that make better food than we do and those two sides just weren't up to that standard. We felt that fries should be a bumpset for skilled chefs and the mac and cheese should also be an easy score. So, for that reason, I rated the food lower. One last thing - my steak knife was about as sharp as a plastic butter knife. I get that I don't need razor blade sharpness, but I had to do quite a bit of sawing just to cut my steak. With that said, we enjoyed our time. We had the perfect table and except for the sides, this would've been an easy 5 stars.

Excellent high end chop house just off the square in Georgetown. What a Gem! Thank you Court and Austin at the bar. Where to start about our exceptional experience at City Post. Formerly the post office of Georgetown, with notes of such throughout the lobby and the dining rooms. Very upscale seating and atmosphere, quality customer service as soon as you walk in the door. We came in for brunch and got seats at the bar quickly, I would recommend reservations. We enjoyed a Mimosa and an iced coffee, the chefs designed an iced latte was incredible. After perusing the menu we thought to split the City Breakfast with the Corned Beef and Hash. We were not disappointed. The sauce on the biscuit is so clever, sort of a gravy/hollandaise mix with just the right amount of kick; and it goes good on everything. They have a great cocktail menu with something for everyone, including "Prohibition Style" drinks and even local beers on tap. The restrooms are an example of the sense of detail from this venue, they think of everything and excel everywhere. During our visit we were appraised of their Friday and Saturday speakeasy, the golden peacock, in the basement. We are looking forward to our next visit.

From William, my husband: I want to start my review first of all, to express my thanks to our daughter and son-in-law for inviting us to such an exclusive and high class restaurant. The service that was rendered to us at this restaurant, in my humble opinion, was extraordinary. The young waiter, JP, was training the young lady, Amy. I noticed how professional he carried himself. Usually when someone is being trained, you’ll notice some nervousness. Amy was very relaxed, and I credit that to the way JP was training her. I asked JP if I could play the piano, and he mentioned to me that he would ask his manager, which he did, and he came over and told me it’s a go. I thought HE was the manager, because of how he carried himself. I got a chance to meet the manager, Joshua Jennings, and he was very gracious. And I love how attentive everyone, including JP, was to me and to my family. I noticed also, how quickly, when we were finished with our plates, they would come pick them up. I don’t know how many people watch for this, but I do. I like it, as soon as I’m finished, picked up and taken away. Once we were finished with our meal, they brought my drink, they didn’t rush us to leave so there would be more space for others. So, if anybody reading this review wants to enjoy a wonderful restaurant, this is the place to visit. I give this restaurant 5 stars, and I’ll stake my name on it.—William Oliver Childress, composer

From me (Theresa Childress): This restaurant made our 44th anniversary celebration the most memorable one that we can remember. What a beautiful place, located in historic Georgetown, in what used to be a post office, and before that used to be a livery stable! Inside are old post office boxes, right where they used to be, on one wall, and on another, a display of keys in a case. I loved the old feel preserved in a very open and updated building that had just the right amount of light—not dark, like some restaurants. We were the first customers of the day, and were welcomed like royalty, seated where I would have chosen to be seated—right by the food prep area, where I could see a brand new fire going in the oven. We were greeted and congratulated by everyone there, and JP and trainee Amy took care of us. JP went over the menu, and answered any questions any of us had, which made our decisions easier. Once service started, with water, other drinks, then appetizers and our food, and finally dessert, I noticed very attentive action: eyes on the table, eyes on our actions (removing the lemon from a drink, so next time it came WITHOUT a lemon), refreshing of drinks, removal of the various plates and glasses. The whole meal went like this. My husband got to play the baby grand piano, with permission, and was told that it was 100 years old, and the keys were real ivory. Amazing! He’s a natural composer, and never has to memorize anything or prepare ahead of time. These melodies just come within a minute of sitting down, and the notes he plays, feed into what comes next. We were congratulated once again as we left, on our anniversary—by staff and guests alike, which was a nice surprise. The food!—oh, the food was cooked to perfection. We were tasting from each other’s plates, and were amazed at how the textures and flavors were so delicious, and how they paired so well with any accompaniments. These recipes are out of this world, and the presentation when the plates came out reminded me of how they did it on the Disney boat I was on years ago. Again, like we were royalty. So unlike most eating establishments, where all the plates must be balanced on one huge round tray, carried on the shoulder of probably a slightly anxious waiter, lowered to a stand, then served. Tender sea bass, amazing sauce, the pork chop was not dry at all, creamy lobster Mac and cheese, and oysters so delicious I could have eaten two dozen and called it a day. You HAVE to try this place, if you haven’t already....

I’m still in shock at how I was just treated. I’m buying a home in the area and I walked into City Post tonight at 804 pm for the very first time. I was very excited to have my first great experience at City Post! I own investment and energy companies throughout Texas and one of my biggest passions is fine dining! I Love to find my favorite restaurants and then be a loyal customer for life and take all my clients and employees there! I was assuming that would be City Post Because all of my clients love good steakhouses. The hostess immediately said the bar was full and I could not sit down and eat in there. She also said ball caps are not acceptable and I said I would happily take mine off. As I would’ve regardless because that’s appropriate manners. Then she proceeded to say work out gear is not acceptable, while I was wearing a $300 flannel long sleeve shirt from New York City. It’s safe to say I was offended but I killed her with kindness and Chalked it up as a very bizarre rude encounter. I just would love to see the bar area I added because that’s where my clients and friends always like to sit. I proceeded to the back -and there was several seats open at the bar. I said why can’t I sit there and eat with those seats available? Obviously, the hostessis at this point knew she was caught in her lies and rudeness with me. She stated because they we’re cutting down staff and no one is sitting down in here The rest of the night. Meanwhile The restaurant was very open and the dining room was full. Four people walked in when I was walking out. My wealth or my business status doesn’t matter, I am as humble as it gets. My personal advice from someone that owns many businesses and has many customers is you don’t judge a book by its cover and you definitely dont treat people that way. I am a 46 year old professional, father, husband and good human that just wanted to experience a nice meal at a cool new restaurant. A customer that was going to spend tens of thousands of dollars in the future and be loyal for life. I’m still very confused by the situation because it was beyond bizarre and I’ve never experienced something like that in all my years of traveling the world Fine dining at French Laundry in Yountville, Michelin restaurants across the globe etc. Nothing against city post and its owners. The few minutes I was there I loved the atmosphere and I’m sure the food is excellent! For the record, I’m just beyond disappointed how I was treated! I never ever post bad reviews! In 20 years, I’ve maybe posted one other. Again, this is how bizarre that encounter was. Hopefully a lesson can be learned here and in the future it doesn’t happen again to others. God bless...

Disappointed. We have been here a few times and decided to come here for my birthday. After spending time in the speak easy we followed that by dinner upstairs for my birthday with a group of 4. The check in was good, they took us down stairs in the elevator and walked us to the table. It took us from sit down to drinks in hand 30 minutes. The drinks and atmosphere were good but it took way too long to get drinks. They had 1 bartender and needed more bc he was in the weeds. At minimum bring waters if that's the situation. The waitress was polite and friendly but not fast by anymeans, we closed out that tab bc there was no way we would have time for more, since we didn't have a chance to finish the 1st round. They sent someone to bring us up to the restaurant for our dinner reservation. Great soft handoff to the upstairs but that was it. Our server was extremely rude. We discussed it and we truly felt like he treated us like we were poor and we couldn't afford to be there. Very, looking down his nose at us, after I didn't want his recommendations. I ordered a glass of prosecco, he recommended a Rosé. I said I don't normally like Rosé and when I asked if there was a way to try it before selecting that, he shot me down and was extremely rude. "I'll just bring you the prosecco." Well ok then. He also walked away before everyone had an opportunity to order drinks. We were never asked if we wanted to start with anything so we ordered everything at once. A cocktail shrimp, 3 steaks, a lobster roll plus sides. When the food was brought out I was underwhelmed. It was terrible. 2 steaks were over cooked and plated like a 5 dollar cheap steak from Dennys. My husband is color blind and can't tell the color and he will not send food back. My husband ended up switching with his steak for our friends Lobster Roll bc she disliked it and would not eat it. Personally, I added the Oscar style topping to my 7 oz filet mignon. The flavor and texture (too runny) were not good. I ended up brushing it off all together.I didn't finish my steak bc it just wasn't good. The whole plate was warm but not hot or cold. The brussel spouts weren't cooked the way the server explained it. The mashed potatoes and the cocktail shrimp were both good.

The staff, outside of our actual waiter were all amazing as far as service goes. The speak easy needs more staff. The food was down right bad and our server should worry less about what HE likes and focus more on what the customer likes. I would not recommend this based on the...
