The Gardener — Local services in Georgetown

ZERO STARS. We find the Xeriscape Project installed by THE GARDENER, Howard Kuhl, unsatisfactory . Xeriscape is supposed to reduce yard maintenance and water consumption--ours does neither. THE GARDENER did not install a weed barrier under the rocks, and our yard has been plagued by grass and weeds no matter how many gallons of weed killer have been sprayed. THE GARDENER offered two RoundUp sprayings at no cost, and then charged us over $500 for two additional visits. We have sprayed countless gallons ourselves. The irrigation system does not provide complete coverage and seems to be part of the problem. We were charged $600 for irrigation modifications, but instead of installing water-conserving drips, THE GARDENER left most of the original lawn sprinklers in place. I'm aware of only one added drip location. We find this unacceptable. Plants have died and been replaced by THE GARDENER and those replacements have died as well, because water is not reaching them, no matter how much we irrigate. I believe that the sprinklers are contributing to the never ending grass and weed problem as well. Rather than drips that target individual plants, the sprinklers cover broad areas of rock and water the soil beneath. Water runs off the rocks into the street. Grass and weeds are getting more water than some of the plants THE GARDENER installed. I would not use THE GARDENER again. We have hired another landscaper to modify these...

First of all, Howard is amazing. So many of the companies that we contacted didn't actually do design. Their typical response was, "What do you want us to plant and where?" or "Sorry, we don't do design without you paying us first" or "Sorry we don't do small jobs". Howard came out and we told him the general information of what we wanted. He designed the whole thing, including picking plants that would survive well in the Georgetown, TX weather (cold and hot), he spoke with us on why the plants he chose would work so well and had a complete design layout for our review, including pictures of the plants themselves and what they would look like. His crew are top notch, they answered our questions, were polite, worked really hard, especially in the 100+ weather we had when they were working on the job. You can tell they know what they are doing, and are in sync while doing the work. They didn't skimp, cut corners and did a top notch job all the way around.
