I wanted to share my experience so other customers can be aware. We purchased our rabbit, Domino, from this location on August 12th when he was about 6–8 weeks old. We followed the store’s guidance not to handle him for the first few days so he could adjust, and even after we tried not to handle him much until he was comfortable enough to come to us on his own (which he does), but once we started interacting with him, we noticed he had fleas.
Because of his young age and his species, there wasn’t much we could safely do to treat him right away. We tried flea combs, we researched online, bought wipes, but he became visibly infested overtime—and as or right now you can see several fleas at a time, which means it’s even more likely we brought him home with fleas.
When we first got him, the store recommended we take him to Platz Hospital for basic care like nail clipping, but that hospital wasn’t accepting new patients. Because of his species, it’s not as easy to find a vet who sees rabbits, so we had to search for a new one on our own. Once we finally got him seen, the vet confirmed it was fleas—not mites like the store suggested. The staff at the store had said mites could be transferred from humans, but that doesn’t apply here.
The store also told us to try using Dawn dish soap, but our vet explained that it only moves the fleas around instead of eliminating them. We had to pay for proper flea treatment to help Domino finally get relief. For reference, we just moved into our apartment in June and got Domino in August—no other pets have ever lived here. So there’s no possible way the fleas came from our home.
When we called the store, they said there was nothing they could do since it was past their 14-day window. We really didn’t think about the policy in this situation because they said we could return him in that timeframe and we love Domino and are happy to have him here. The problem is that he’s been suffering due to this. He has sores on the top of his head from scratching. The store doesn’t want to take responsibility which is fine.
This review isn’t about money—it’s about awareness. I just want to make other families aware so their pets don’t have to go through what ours did. Please check your animals closely and schedule a vet visit right away after bringing them home. Domino is on the right track now and getting the...
Read moreUsually would've loved this place. Used to come here as a kid and the staff was super personable and supervised everything going on. Not the same experience now. I can excuse the small cages if they were maybe just display cages but sometimes there is up to 10 animals shoved in a small cage with no house or place to hide. There is a lot less supervision then before and these animals are extremely stressed out and squeezed by kids with no place to hide and are left to hide under their own wheels. This treatment probably makes them bad family pets. The staff also has no idea of how to take care of these animals or how to let people handle them. Had been there, someone asked to handle the rats and the worker said he would grab one from the cage, stressing it out, and said that the animals attempting to jump from someones hand is normal? This behavior is not normal and is a clear sign of stress that can lead to respatory infections in rodents. They also state hamsters can live in 10 gallon tanks, which is way too small, and that they can be housed together if they were siblings. This could lead to hamster death since they will fight and kill eachother. Staff is also very mixed on how to care for animals especially what to feed them. Some seemed to just not know how things worked at all and were giving advice they didn't know was true. Rat cage was also filthy and they had animals for sale that had tumors or other obvious issues. Other animals like hedgehogs were kept in extremely cramped cages. Maybe if every worker was as passionate the place would improve, but many just didn't care about the animals. Prime example of adopt don't shop. Do your research before...
Read moreIn Michigan, there is a law: if something is less than 99. cents, it is not taxed, but this rule does not work in this store... I bought fuzzy for 0.99 cents, and I was charged 6% for a total of $ 1.05. HOW DO YOU LIKE IT? but it didn't seem enough to them and they brought me a rotten fuzzy. When asked to replace the rotten fuzzy, some dwarf (I thought it was a boy of about 10 years in height), and he works there -He began to assure me that this is not rotten fuzzy, this is the color. I asked to bring another a fazzy and he already returned to assure me not alone, but with a friend and the other mouse looked much better. To my question: "you can see for yourself that this is the rotten fuzzy and this one is not?"They both claimed that rotten fuzzy is even better because the color is interesting - that's all! Make your own conclusion! BUT MY CONCLUSION IS that here they are taught to lie and deceive customers, it will not work with me - I choose other pet stores and chowy.com with free delivery - and here it's too expensive and many lies. Apparently they wanted to poison my pet, so that I would then buy another one from them. the store probably has financial problems, or maybe it has always...
