We recently stayed at Wanderlust for three nights. We were by far the oldest people there at the time, although I never felt like I was treated like some "old couple." At first I realized we were probably older than everyone's parents, but then realized we were probably closer in age to their grandparents! But, just in case you are worried about being too old for a hostel, we loved our stay there. I love the sense of community, the access to a very well-equipped kitchen, easy parking, and a fun, spirited stay. Perhaps the highlight was getting to dress the resident mannequin from a treasure troth of costumes. How many places can boast that?||The hostel is just a block from the free bus which goes to Crested Butte, or just around town, and walking distance to a well-stocked grocery store. Cleanliness was top rate, the entire staff very accommodating, plenty of activities for non-ski time (a great game of Scrabble was enjoyed), and the beds, linens, and pillows were as comfortable as any fancy, overpriced hotel. ||On our last day the weather was a little iffy for crossing the mountain pass and our private room was already booked for that night. The management assured us we could stay in the bunk room (which is very nice also) if the pass was closed. || If you like community and don't mind some shared space I highly recommend Wanderlust. There is no doubt we'll stay there if we ever go through Gunnison again. ||Oops, almost forgot --- two of the friendliest and sweet cats love to curl up on your lap or stop by your room...
Read moreOh My Gosh, this place is GREAT!!!!! My cousin and I have been traveling in CO and needed a place to stay last night. The Gunnison Visitor Center was closed but they did have lodging information outside the building. Actually, there was a flyer with listings of lodging. We called a few places but just really needed a nice, clean place to sleep. The Wanderlust Hostel price was reasonable and so we called. When we called, the proprietor, Amy, answered, she was most pleasant and she gave us directions to her location. As soon as we walked in the feel of the house is most welcoming. My cousin, Helena, has had experience with hostels and wanted to look things over. We were so impressed with the place! The beds have excellent support and we had the best rest in several days. In addition to nice and clean surroundings Amy and her Mom, Carolyn, are most hospitable. Also, the decor of the house is remarkable with such attention to details! My cousin and I HIGHLY recommend this hostel to anyone wanting a reasonable charming...
Read moreI've never visited a hostel before and wasn't sure what to expect. Imagine this: You're going to visit a cool friend of yours that you knew in college and she's having a bunch of friends over to her warm and inviting house with vintage Seventies knickknacks and a well-tended garden. That's what it's like. You can have a private room or a room with bunk beds that you share with other people, but the people there are friendly, interesting, and a pleasure to hang out with. Plus, you've got to love Cole the Hostel Dog as an extra bonus. Everything is very clean and well-kept, and peaceful. You're free to hang out in the living room and talk, or relax quietly out in the yard in the porch swing. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone in the Gunnison area who's looking for something off the beaten path. So...
