If you’re looking for a stay that’s as refreshing as a cool breeze on a hot day, but with just a hint of "meh", the Holiday Inn in Hattiesburg is the place to be. It’s not the Ritz, but it’s definitely the place you’ll end up when you’ve been on the road for 12 hours and the only thing you’re willing to commit to is sleep and a vaguely edible breakfast.
The room? It’s the perfect balance between "I’ll never make it to the spa" and "at least I’m not sleeping in my car." Clean sheets, solid pillows, and a bed that won’t make you regret your life choices the next morning. You won’t get lost in the luxurious details, but you’ll get the rest you so desperately need. It's like the place is whispering, You can check out tomorrow, but tonight... you sleep.
The amenities? A pool that you’ll probably stare at from your room, wondering how cold it is, and a breakfast bar where they’ll serve you eggs in some form—scrambled, fried, or scrambled-again-to-look-like-something-else. But here’s the kicker: no free breakfast, folks. That’s right, $12 each for breakfast. Twelve dollars! For scrambled eggs, toast, and the privilege of watching your wallet slowly weep.
But hold on, the restaurant downstairs isn’t all bad. The food is decent, which, in a world of overpriced hotel food, is honestly a small victory. It’s like that restaurant in the mall where you don’t expect gourmet, but you’re still pleasantly surprised that your burger didn’t taste like regret.
The staff? Just the right amount of friendly to remind you that you’re not alone in the world, yet not enough to make you feel like you’re at a family reunion. They’ll check you in with a smile, then disappear like they’re part of the hotel decor, which honestly, I appreciate. No fuss, no drama.
Bottom line: if you’re not expecting to be wowed, but you do want somewhere comfortable enough to rest your weary bones, the Holiday Inn in Hattiesburg is your place. It’s the hotel version of a decent handshake, it gets the job done, and you can move on with your day. Five stars, because sometimes “good enough” is exactly what you need after a long day of road-tripping... just don’t try to get breakfast unless you're prepared to...

My room only had 2 towels even though we reserved it for 3 people. Called front desk and was told the hotel has a severe towel shortage and was brought a pool towel. Not a huge deal. There was no TV remote in the room, had to go to the front desk and get one but there was no back so the batteries were exposed. Pretty annoying but remote worked and problem was solved. Unable to use room phone to call front desk, it just goes to busy signal. Could hear a lot of noise from room above us not sure if the floors are just thin or if the people up there were just stomping around. Called front desk and issue was resolved. One of the reasons we decided to stay here was there is an attached restaurant which seemed like it would be convenient especially when traveling with small kids
Went to dinner the first night at the attached restaurant Burger Theory and had an awful experience. Took 1.5 hours to get our food and the meals were subpar at best. One child was brought a yogurt that expired in May. Staff had poor attitude. We paid for the breakfast package and reluctantly went to breakfast the next morning. There was barely any food left (we got there at 8:30am), the food that was available was not appetizing and again there were expired yogurts available. They ran out of bowls for cereal and when we told the staff nothing was done. Bagels were stale and hard as a rock. Coffee was decent. Breakfast the next morning was slightly better. Would not recommend for anyone to stay here with the hopes of utilizing the attached restaurant. It was a waste of time and money.

I needed a place to stay this past weekend- prior to Labor Day and almost everything was booked up. Holiday Inn Express was the best of what was available and I chose it. The reservation process was quick and easy, always a plus. Upon arrival, the hotel lobby was clean and smelled fresh, the receptionist was super friendly and helpful in every way. I did notice that their snack and food section in the lobby was very sparse, very limited choices of anything- not as full and available as their online pic shows, which sucks because I would’ve purchased some ice cream had it have been available.
I reserved a king room, 407- I noticed the hallway carpet was dirty, needed a vacuum. My room appeared clean, I didn’t like the smell of it at all- not a fresh and clean smell- the a/c was on but the unit was just humming and I noticed after about 30 min it wasn’t running- so I turned it off and back on and it kicked on- this contributed to some of the smell. The shower and shower door could’ve been cleaner and the shower head is awful- many tiny streams of water which took forever to rinse shampoo out. The water pressure was fine but I think a regular shower head or at least one with a larger water stream would be great. The pillows smelled musty or sweaty, just not fresh- needless to say I did not sleep well at all.
Breakfast was a nightmare- only one waitress on staff due to others not showing for their shifts- which made for a very long wait, and an overworked and inattentive waitress, which I did give the benefit of the doubt- but they should’ve gotten her some help to provide the service that was offered.
I do not think I will...
