This is a warning to those considering reserving a room at this establishment … read the cancellation policy closely and decide if you are willing to risk losing money. Not even a hurricane and the Hawaii DOT closing of the Hilo airport will waiver Aloha Junction’s cancellation policy. I lost $1,035.74.
I had 2 rooms reserved for 2 nights on Sunday, August 25 and Monday, August 26, 2024. On Sunday 8/25/24, Hurricane Hone caused all Southwest Airline and Hawaiian Airline flights from Honolulu to Hilo International Airport to be cancelled.
Throughout Sunday, including my extended time waiting at the Honolulu airport, I was in text contact, several times, with the owners of Aloha Junction – keeping them appraised of the situation. When my flight to Hilo was cancelled, I notified Aloha Junction. Their response: “… I am so sorry to hear about your cancelled flight. This storm really has been hard on all of us. Unfortunately, our cancellation policy does not cover cancelled flights.” Evidently Aloha Junction’s cancellation policy does not cover Hurricane Hone and the Hilo Airport closure either! With no regard to guests’ safety, Aloha Junction would rather guests arrive in the midst of a hurricane.
I am not a rich person, my family saved and saved for this trip to Hawaii. To lose $1,035.74 and incur added cost on top of that (securing lodging and transportation in Honolulu on 8/25 and 8/26) severely impacted me. Aloha Junction could not even extend a partial refund for the night of 8/25/24. I didn’t use the 2 rooms – Aloha Junction could at least refund me their cleaning fee!
What Aloha Junction did offer to us was to stay the next two days (stay on 8/26 and 8/27). Unfortunately, my family had plans to attend a wedding in Honolulu and we could not change our plans to accommodate Aloha Junctions dates/offer.
To add insult to injury – on August 28, 2024 I received an email from Aloha Junction “ … Thank you for staying with us. …. We enjoyed hosting you! …”
Dear Susan and Robert (owners of Aloha Junction) – please update your email system or at least make sure it’s accurate. Your email to me should have stated “Dear Guest, In the wake of Hurricane Hone, and your inability to stay with us, THANK YOU for your large donation to our business. We hope you’ll decide to take this monetary risk in the future.”
I have learned my lesson. In the future, I will book hotel reservations with inns and hotels that offer a flexible cancellation policy.

Read moreMy wife and I recently stayed at the Aloha Junction Guesthouse as part of a long-anticipated second honeymoon. Our room was the Nene Goose Suite. We could not have asked for a better stay.||Upon arrival, we were all smiles. Seeing the big peacock statue at the gate and then driving into the garden-lined parking area made us feel welcome and relaxed. The yard is filled with beautiful plants and flowers and is very well-maintained. I was even followed around by a small peacock as we unloaded.||The room itself was very spacious and had a locking door we could go through to access the common areas of the house (which were thoughtfully appointed and comfortable) as well as the door out to the lanai which was shared with guests from the room next door but was very spacious.||The shower head was powerful and there was plenty of hot water but it took a couple minutes to warm up. The bath products provided were very good and had natural scents.||There was a small breakfast of French toast, yogurt, hard boiled eggs and jam in the fridge which was more than enough for us on the first morning.||The bed was soft and cozy and I did not want to get out in the mornings. There is no air conditioning in the rooms but thanks to being at about 2500-3000 ft it is not needed so long as you keep the windows open. At night, we were serenaded by frogs (which quickly became wonderful white noise to us) and in the morning we were awakened by the local roosters.||Each evening at dusk we watched the beautiful gardens fade into gray from the comfy chairs on the lanai and each morning we were treated to what we called the rooster parades. First, the small peacock we had met came through the yard with another peacock and three peahens and a short time later a rooster and three hens crossed the yard. ||The second morning, just as we had finished breakfast, we met Bear. He is the dog that works at the Aloha Junction and is a big but very friendly boy. We let him sniff us and he let us pet him. Very good boy.||All in all, it was a great stay for the price and I would absolutely stay again as well as recommend to...
Read moreFabulous spot to stay at when you are visiting Hawaii Volcanoes National Park! Aloha was easy to find, a little over 6 minutes from the park. They made it easy to check-in, sending information for entering when checking-in after hours. Ahead of time they sent an email with suggested places to eat, which was really helpful because there are not a ton of restaurants open during certain days of the week in Volcano Village. We stayed in the Garden Room and it was spacious with two queen beds, a small kitchenette, and private bathroom. It also had a door that entered onto the shared back patio. Everything was very clean. Breakfast, part of the room price, was served at 8 am though they put the food out a little ahead of time. I had seen someone else's review that described pancakes for breakfast and I got excited, but it was basically a continental breakfast with some instant oatmeal, boxes of cereal, and yogurt cups. They also served a papaya half and boiled egg to all guests. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wishing to stay in...
