I stayed in Volcano over Merrie Monarch weekend after a previous establishment in Hilo conveniently "couldn't confirm" a reservation I had paid for five months prior, and everything was sold out for miles. I had to scramble to find a place before it was too dark, and thankfully Tom had space and was willing to accommodate me at the last minute.||||I stayed in the Maid's Quarters, behind the owners home, which is located just a mile from the entrance to Volcano National Park. The air up there is super crisp and clean, and Tom showed me around the place. There is a hot tub that you can use any time in the back yard, but I never got to (busy busy bee!). The whole place is spacious and decorated so lovingly. It reminded me of my moms house with all of the carefully chosen decoration and design. It has a small gas range kitchen, a personal sized refrigerator, a cute little nook, an attachment to a laundry room, one wood fireplace in the parlor, one gas range fire place in the bedroom, and the most COMFORTABLE bed I've slept in for a while. I was just swallowed up by the down comforter and pillows, which felt great on a chilly night.||||They have sensors on the lights, so when you come in at night you don't trip trying to find the front door to your room. And it is so quiet and peaceful out there! I couldn't thank the couple who runs this place enough-- they took what could have been a nightmare and made it a dream come true. Not just for quickly turning the room over so I could stay there, but for the obvious care that they put in the place to make their guests feel welcome.. It was...

Read moreThe perfect spot for visiting Volcano National Park! My girlfriend and I stayed in the 'Maid's Cottage' for a couple of nights. Out of 6 different hotels during our trip to Maui and the Big Island, there was no doubt that this was the most comfortable and relaxing of them all. The place is spacious yet cozy, and there's a great hot tub that's private to your room while you stay. I slept very well here. The kitchen is well equipped and stocked, which is great since there aren't a lot of dining options in the town (and a bunch of them were unexpectedly closed while we were there) — stopping by Safeway or Foodland for groceries to cook a few meals is highly recommended. Also, Todd and Olivia were such kind and thoughtful hosts. The morning of our check out, Kīlauea started erupting; my girlfriend and I happened to check the webcam just after it started when we woke up, so the 5-minute drive into the park meant we had a pretty private viewing, which was the highlight of our trip. When we got back to the room later that morning to check out, Olivia came by to make sure we'd gotten a chance to see the eruption, which was really considerate! If I ever get to return to Volcano NP (which I sure hope I will), I'll absolutely...
