I'm a HUGE fan of Thai food and have eaten at Thai restaurants all over the country. This restaurant has some really great dishes and overall is quite authentic and tasty. The pricing has so much to be desired. I've tried to get over it, it being one of the only places to get authentic Thai other than from a food truck. After paying more than $25 for this soup, I should have felt nourished and full from the meal. I was still STARVING afterward because there was hardly any edible food in my Tom Kha...it was all aromatics, 3 shrimp, a few white mushrooms, a single tomato and some carrot...no rice included and ZERO HOT even though I repeatedly asked for the meal to be prepared 'Thai hot'. I was so unhappy with the dish that I drove fifteen minutes back from my house to return it. When I got to the restaurant I said tht I was unhappy with the contents of the soup, that there wasn't enough of the shrimp they took the soup from me to 'remake it.' I asked them if they planned to throw it away because I would be happy to buy the soup if they just added more veggies and shrimp. They said that no, I couldn't buy it that it would be given to an employee. I told them that I had already eaten out of the container. The young lady said that it didn't matter. Uhhh, no. So they 'remade' the soup . This time it was still about 90% aromatics but they added two more shrimp and some more carrot and onion. I bought a side of rice, hoping they would offer to make the situation right by possibly giving me the side of rice or even a simple apology. None of that happened. After I left, I swore that I would never spend another dollar at their establishment. They're local to me, but I'd rather buy from the food truck or make the food at home. I can make TWO pots of soup for the price they charge for a SMALL 16 oz container.
In the pics you can see the prices of other places nearby. You can see that most every other restaurant charges around ten dollars for their Tom Kha. This restaurant is seriously overpriced for the less than stellar quality of the food and...
Read moreOh you guys, so sorry. I have eaten here 2x in a week and both times the fried rice has been horrible. Normally there are veggies in the rice, no veggies. The flavor was really off. Last week even though I said "medium" it was too hot to eat plus it was overall not good. This time it was fine for heat but not the normal rice. So sorry but definitely wasted $30 last night.
Wow! I am so lucky to have this place in my new backyard! First time ordering from there and I am blown away! I ordered Pad Kee Mao chicken, Thai style fried rice w/ beef, Pad Thai noodles with beef, Green Curry w/ chicken. I got them all a 6 for heat, a good choice for us because we want to feel our lips burn and some heat.
I had a hard time settling on which one I like the best. All are excellent!! I would order all of them again for sure! It is definitely enough food for dinner then lunch and dinner the next day which is what we wanted while unpacking.
UPDATED: Third day in a row picking up food from here.
On day 2 I ordered Fried Rice with beef over the phone, but I wasn't asked about spice level so I assumed it was going to be a 5, it wasn't, it was zero. So I suggest making sure you state the spice level.
Tonight (day 3) I told my hubby I saw people who lived here picking up fish and chips so they must be good. So tonight I ordered drunken noodles with beef, spice level 5 and fish and chips for hubby. They were BOTH excellent!!!! Having lived in Waikoloa for 3 years and not having a consistently good restaurant super close was horrible. To have one to this level is AMAZING! Reminds me of living in Sherman Oaks CA 7 years ago. The only thing different is in Sherman Oaks most places delivered. But Hawaii labor and food prices are super high, that has to factor in food costs.
This restaurant lives up to really high standards. I count myself lucky to have many more restaurants really close of a super high caliber than I had in...
Read moreAfter a fun day at Volcano National Park, my family and I eventually made it to this restaurant (we had a bad experience just prior, waiting for 45 minutes at another restaurant) -- found via Google Maps. We walk in, nervous about a bad experience, and were pleasantly surprised.
We were seated immediately. Drinks ordered and received quickly. Attentive staff making sure we're doing ok, and understanding the menu, etc. We ordered, and food started arriving quickly.
This is the only oddity -- I ordered sweet and sour chicken, my wife had vegetarian Thai noodles, my 2 children ordered kids' cheese pizza, and mother-in-law ordered a cheeseburger. My wife and I received our food within a few minutes. The cheeseburger showed up about 5 minutes later, and the pizzas another 10 minutes after that. I understand that the food showed up in approximately the time it took to cook if, but I found it very strange that they didn't prepare the food according to what would take the longest to cook first. I was torn between waiting for my family's good to arrive and have mine get cold, or start eating and having my family's stomachs grumble while mine filled up (I'm not going to say which I chose to do).
Otherwise, service was great, food was good (mine tasted a little bit fishy -- reading a different review, that person thought it might be due to not properly washing the pan between preparing entrees), and the prices were as expected -- a little high, but not too bad considering we're on the Big Island, and a 45 minute drive from the nearest significant competition.
I could see the front doors from our table, and noticed that no one waited for more than a couple of minutes to be seated, and everyone at all of the nearby tables appeared to be laughing, carrying on a conversation, and generally...
