I travel often with pets, and my trip in april was no different. I have always had well behaved and house trained pets and have never had a problem.
First I was pretty surprised that I had to sign a paper saying i would not do anything ILLEGAL, and then, after paying a pet fee, signed a paper that said I would pay if my pets left damage. I said then, "oh they will stay in their crate anyway."
I was told our room was on 2nd floor, #256, so I asked for a lower level. I was then given #126 at the end of the building. I pulled up next to the walkway and was able to easily unload our crate (1.5'x3')
When i got in my room, even though it was late in the day, it still smelled very strongly of the perfume-like odor to cover-up the already present smells. I left the door open to air the room out for about an hour before I closed up and went to bed.
The room was ok, the beds ok. We had an ok typical Quality Inn breakfast the next morning, showered, packed the van and left.
During the drive to Denver, i was left a message by Erica, the manager. In that message she told me the housekeeper told her when she went to clean, there was a strong odor so she went and looked with a black light. There was a lot of places that showed up on the black light and poop behind the door. She then said she charged me $200 for this.
When I returned her call, she was not available. I left a message with Brandon (i think that was his name) that my pets were always in their crate and did not do any thing in the room.
When Erica returned my call, she did not want to talk about the black light "evidence" or the poop behind the door that she discussed in the message she left. She said they were mostly worried about the smell. I repeated that my pets were not out in the room, and I brought up that the room already had a strong odor to cover up smells. We did not leave a room with poop or urine. It did not happen from my pets, because if it had, I would clean it up and tell you what happened.
On one review at another site, a reply to the $200 charge stated the charge was for defication on the carpet. I call foul. My pets never left their crate. There was nothing left behind.
After many years of travel with pets, I have never had someone accuse me of something like this. I feel very suspicious of the unwillingness to address the poop and blacklight accusation. I think someone at this hotel is lying.
I often drive through this area. I will find another hotel next time. I was so upset and offended by this accusation and charge, that I actually cancelled all my Quality Inn reservations for the rest of my trip. I will never stay there again, nor will I stay at any properties from the Choice hotel group.
I have provided and managed pet friendly vacation properties since 1995. I would never do such a thing to any property that provides room for our pets. I resent this...
Read moreThis area does not have much to offer with regards to lodging. This hotel is similar to many in the area. Not great, not bad. We stayed in room 225, upstairs in the back. It was quiet.
When we checked in they were under the understanding that we had a pet, I have no idea why. I never travel with pets, ever. I did have my 15 year old son, but he is not a dog. I book through the choicehotels.com site ALL OF THE TIME, so I am not sure why they thought I had a pet. After I said no I have no pet, they were not convinced and watched me carefully the entire time....very strange.
The beds were comfortable, the pillows "so so".
The A/C only worked if you left it on ALL DAY and then put your shoes up on top of the window sill to hold the curtains down so the air would not be "trapped", kinda stupid.
The shower was dark and had no lighting above the shower to brighten the bathroom, so it all appeared dingy. There were marks on the ceiling from what appeared to be mold. The water did not get hot, and remained, "luke warm" through all of the showers.
There was no "Do not disturb" sign available to put on the front door.
We decided to sleep in a bit and skip breakfast. At 8:50 am, the hotel personnel was BANGING on the door. I asked them through the door what they wanted and they didn't respond, then they banged on the door AGAIN. I unlocked both of the locks and opened the door and asked what they wanted, a woman with a name tag on said, "Oh we start cleaning now, when are you leaving." CHECK OUT IS AT 11:00 AM. WHY IN THE HECK IS SHE BANGING ON MY DOOR????!!!!!!
All in all, NOT a great stay at all. I travel throughout the US, and 95% of the time stay at choice hotels,
I was VERY unhappy...
Read more1st — know that this hotel, Quality Inn Holbrook near Petrified Forest is under new ownership since March 20, 2025 so all reviews on or before this date are moot. I learned this in conversation with a manager as I told him how impressed I was with this hotel and how perfect it was. I was a normal guest who showed up that evening. I am not involved with the hotel in any other way. I've taken photos for myself and am sharing them here so you can see for yourself.||This is just a part of my notes:|Guest enter a clean shining lobby and can relax on a nice new couch and have a free cup of coffee. The breakfast area is in full view allowing a preview of the hotel's free breakfast. ||Walking into your room, you're likely to immediately notice the large bathroom area's fabulous large mirror which happens to have various light modes. ||You may be as happy as me that the sink doesn’t drip as do so many other hotels of any rating, and the fan in the bathroom is separate from the light and it's silent. The bed is soft but (not too soft) & it's very comfy. Beautiful bedding and I know they wash all of it because I’ve seen them collect it. The carpet is new and clean. The simulated wood flooring as well. ||Before I put my bags on the shelf above the convenient exposed closet, I used a white tissue to check for dirt on it and it was flawlessly clean.||The outdoor pool, renovated and reopened by the new owner, looked very inviting and I'd certainly have enjoyed it if I wasn't so tired. ||The breakfast was the best of the several Quality Inns I've stayed at in Utah/Arizona in August 2025. (All have fresh waffles & syrup, cereal, juice, coffee, muffins. Some have eggs,...
