initially I was impressed by this place, nice backyard area, excellent tap selection, and I'll probably return sometime but a few things started bugging me. They do flights, but you can't pick the beers you want, so what fun is that? The bartender seemed really annoyed that I even asked (some seem really cool but at least 2 of them seem to have 'tudes). I think more people would be able to try some of the more limited beers this way, and kegs would maybe stretch a little further than a day or hours. IMO they should probably come up with a price they can live with for an "anything goes" flight, or scrap the idea altogether, but what do I know. What REALLY bugged me was when I was there one evening I saw a senior citizen with a bill of like 5.40 or something, and the I think he gave the barman a ten and was picking through a handful of change for the 40cents or whatever and the bartender told the man "only quarters, I won't take any change smaller than quarters". I don't know if he assumed the man was gonna stiff him on a tip or what, but it was a completely lame thing to do/say or policy to have (if this is their policy, maybe just that one guy's thing I don't know) this one incident shattered my otherwise generally positive perception...
Read moreAll you need to know is SUMMER SHANDY.
Just kidding- D & T Drive In is one of my favorite low key Heights bars. It is in one of those 'soon-to-be up-and-coming' type neighborhoods close to 45, but was remodeled nicely with an atmosphere that overwhelms when you walk in the door. There is a quaint patio with benches out front but inside or on the back patio is really where the ambiance takes over.
The bar area is tight, but charming. You see a wall full of drafts behind the bar and some frozen yum-yum machines also- by frozen yum-yums I mean frozen summer shandies (made with lemonade and PBR) and sangrias.
The best thing to do here, in my opinion, is grab a few shandies and head to the back patio with a board game or deck of cards. The back patio has huge long tables for big groups and misters above to ease the hottest Houston days. The beer selection is fantastic (50+ varieties) and the food is really great too. The menu is kin to the Down House menu as those guys own D&T. They have really interesting Brat, Cheese, and pickled items. Don't miss out on Mondays when they have all...

D&T has such an organic and neighborhood feel to it.
My kind of bar.
Lots of Crafted Beer to choose from on tap. Also well stocked refrigerators with many more options.
I ended up ordering the Frozen Apple Cider drink, and oh boy, be careful cause it's so good that you can barely taste the alcohol.
My friend ordered a Frozen Sangria and she loved it, and I got to sample some, and it was on point.
Her husband Mike ordered a Chocolate Milk Stout, that I tried and it was nice and smooth.
There was a birthday party going on out in the back for a 2 year old, and man oh man, my inner 3, 4 year old self was jealous because they had Cookie Monster in costume, and I remember having a stuffed Cookie Monster, and I wish we had b-day parties like that when I was a very young lad.
Friendly, outgoing bartenders and a natural positive vibe the whole time I was there at D&T.
One more note; I ordered the sweet candy sample which was loaded with Gummy Bears and various gummies to satisfy my sweet tooth.
Can't wait to come...
