We travel frequently for Dal's career of finish carpentry, and this was by far, without a doubt, the absolute worst stay in a hotel we have ever experienced. We didn't expect five star accommodations at a Rodeway Inn, however no matter which hotel we've ever stayed at that was affiliated with the Choice hotels, it has been clean and worth the money, as well as a good experience. We assumed that the jacuzzi suite would be at least clean and satisfactory. However, it was absolutely disgusting. I actually took a video upon first arriving in the room as well as several pictures just in case you would like to see them because the front desk has no desire to waste their time or try to rectify the situation. Upon entering the room, it was very dingy & the couch cushion smelled like urine. It obviously had not just been urinated on because it was dry however the urine smell was very prominent and obvious. The pillowcases on the bed had dirty stains on them that were reminiscent of just not being washed since the last person use them. The blanket on the bed was very dingy and also had a either large cigarette burn or a large stain on it. The glass lamp shade on the side of the bed closest to the air conditioner was completely broken, which I didn't notice until after I almost sliced my finger open on it. It wasn't shattered however it was broken in half and it looks like someone had just stood it back up there so no one would notice. The jacuzzi tub I spent 45 minutes after purchasing bleach and disinfectant cleaning the jacuzzi tub, both in it and around it. I would expect it and the bathroom to
be scrubbed every time after a new customer. The bathtub looked like it hadn't been cleaned at all. Underneath the bathroom sink it was cocered in residue and filth that I wiped off with disenfectant. It seems like pure laziness that the physical things that make an enormous difference were not done. I took one of the pillows that had the largest stain on them, the blanket with the large stain or cigarette hole in the non-smoking room, the towel that had a stain all over it and broken lamp shade all to the front office and explained to them while showing them all of that with the situation as well as the additional large issues in our room, but the gentleman at the front counter expressed very little care or concern. He called his boss, and although he left out too many major issues, all he said they could do was either leave us in that room and keep us at the original rate that we had booked online or we could move to a room back upstairs and pay an extra $20. Obviously we were not going to pay more money for a room that I had to clean myself. I use the jacuzzi one time over the night after I, again as I mentioned, cleaned it and disinfected it for at least 45 minutes. I was too afraid of the uncleanliness to actually turn the jets on in the tub. The maids brought me an additional wet comforter, said nothing when I asked about a differemt couch cushion that hadnt been urinated on, cleaned absolutely nothing and acted like we were a nuisance. This will not affect our loyalty to Choice Hotels, however we will never stay at a Rodeway Inn again and will definitely be more hesitant and thorough...
Read moreI have been a Choice Privileges member since 2009 and have stayed at many properties old & new, renovated & outdated, sparkling clean & in need of help, but the Roadway Inn & Suites - Medical Center in Houston wins, hands down, the dubious distinction of being an absolute DUMP!
I was scheduled to have an early morning surgery but live a couple of hours away, so decided to get something near the hospital. I also had a low points balance that needed to be used and this property fit both criteria. We arrived around 6pm and had to use a night buzzer to get the clerk to come to the window. He didn’t greet me and acted inconvenienced about checking me in. When he stepped to the copier, I noticed he was barefoot on a dirty floor.
It only got worse from there. The “King Suite” in the pictures had sheetrock damage, partially painted walls, cracked light switch covers, wall lamps over the bed that had the light bulbs laying in the fixture but not screwed i, a filthy ancient ac unit that rattled and squeaked, poorly installed vinyl plank flooring that was warped, and cheap vinyl blinds in the only window that were warped with no curtain or drapes for privacy.
The toilet filled so slowly that it was 10-15 minutes between flushes, and the bathroom amenities included 2 small thin towels, 1 small hand towel, zero washcloths, 3 bars of soap, and 1 small shampoo.
The worst I have saved for last. The TV had two remotes. One was for Direct TV, and the other for Live TV which required setting up a Google Home app on my phone annd adding it as a device. That would have been fine except there was no internet service and after several frustrating attempts of using my phone as a hotspot, I gave up in favor of using Direct TV, only to discover the power cord to the DTV box was missing. We settled for watching Netflix on our personal tablet.
So, the King Suite at the Roadway Inn & Suites - Medical Center in Houston was a bargain at only 8000 points all right. I got exactly what I bargained for, a total DUMP, and the worst Choice Hotels property I’ve...
Read moreA Nightmare Stay – Do Not Book This Hotel!
I recently had the misfortune of staying at this hotel, and it was hands down the worst experience I’ve ever had. From the moment I stepped into the room, I knew I had made a huge mistake. The room reeked of sewage, a smell so overpowering that it made it difficult to breathe. The cleanliness was nonexistent – there were stains everywhere, on the sofa, walls, and even the bed sheets, which were torn. The wooden fixture above the bed was covered in some kind of oily residue, which was absolutely disgusting. To top it off, there were holes in the walls, which made the room feel even more rundown.
Bugs made an appearance at different times throughout the stay, which was beyond unsettling. It’s clear that the place is not properly maintained, and I felt constantly uncomfortable and unsafe. As for the cleaning staff, their efforts were minimal at best. All they did was swap out the already stained towels (with marks in yellow, brown, and red) and empty the trash. Cleaning only happens every other day, and the timing was inconsistent – sometimes it was in the morning, sometimes in the evening, and it wasn’t thorough at all.
The management was beyond rude. One night, the keycard for my room stopped working, and when I asked for help, the staff member told me, “I’ll take care of it in the morning” – no sense of urgency or responsibility. The worst part? When I asked for $2 in coins to use for laundry, I was given 7 quarters and a single cent. When I pointed it out, the staff member flat-out denied giving me anything at all and treated me with blatant disrespect.
This place may be a 2-star hotel, but it’s more like a 0-star experience. Even if you were living on the streets, I’m sure you’d find somewhere cleaner and more welcoming than this nightmare. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place...
