So far in the city of Houston, I have been to 15 Ramen restaurants (my cholesterol AUGH). However, out of all those 15, I always considered the ramen at Tamashi Ramen and Sushi to be #1 on my list. Yep. Top of the list. (There's a TLDR at the bottom)
THE RAMEN: The noodles they had were the best noodles I ever had so far, and the broth was very rich and flavorful. The chashu (they gave you two pieces) was super good too! Incredibly tasty. Unfortunately, the restaurant does not offer as much ramen options compared to other places with only a total of 5 options: Tonkotsu, Miso, Shoyu, Tamashi's Menn, and Curry Tsukemen. The Tonkotsu and Miso bowls have mild and hot levels of spiciness, so there's a place for spicy ramen lovers here! However, what makes this place really unique is their Tamashi's Menn bowl! It contains very rich shrimp-based broth instead of pork, and includes a delicious grilled shrimp skewer AND two pieces of chashu (the chashu can be replaced with something else, so the Tamashi's Menn is an excellent choice for any customers who can't eat pork). I also had the Tonkotsu (mild and spicy), the Shoyu, and the Curry Tsukemen, which are all incredibly good as well! I'd personally recommend the Tonkotsu or the Tamashi's Menn! The price for the bowls isn't bad, like about $9.50 for most of them.
THE SUSHI: Their sushi is pretty good, but not the best. I had the New Moon Specialty Roll. It was good, but it wasn't mindblowing. Just good ol' sushi to me.
For the appetizers, I had the takoyaki and edamame. Edamame is what you'd expect. Takoyaki was pretty good, but also not the best Takoyaki I had around town. Not bad at all though!
Venue is also VERY SMALL, but the wait for a table isn't ridiculous like other ramen places I've been to. Neat. Good service too.
I've been to this restaurant so many times. Most of my friends that I've brought to this place told me that their new ramen restaurant had become this place. This place was pretty underrated when I first went here, but the restaurant is becoming a bit more popular these days, which warms my fatty, cholesterol-filled ramen heart. ❤︎ .__. However, this is just my opinion though! If this place doesn't turn out to be your favorite, that's okay! Hope you'll enjoy your ramen! 👍
TLDR -Best ramen in town. Excellent noodles, broth, and chashu all around, although not as much options for what kind of ramen bowl you want. -Sushi is pretty good, but not the best. -Appetizers are fine! Pretty good. -Small venue, but wait times are usually not too long. -Good prices for...
Read moreWow I love ramen and sushi, 2 of my favorite meal choices in one. I always get the tiger roll and tonkotsu ramen. I have been here multiple times and it’s always perfect and delicious. The last time that I went, I ordered online and was picking it up since my bf was getting off from work late. First off, you can’t remove things from your ramen when you order online, you can only add. (I always remove the bamboo and fish cake) Pick up was no problem, but when we got home we were a little shocked at how much of the soup we were given. I guess when you order online they don’t give you a full portion of soup like they would when you dine in. We ordered 2 ramens and were given these small tupperwares of soup each. If you’ve been to any ramen place you know there’s so much soup in the bowl that even the toppings are drowning. We were given probably half of that amount. Sadly this isn’t the first place to do this but I also know many places that give you full portions of soup so I’m not sure why some place just don’t do it. It was disappointing of course, and so I would just suggest that you don’t order online since this is what will happen. Our total order was $35 for 2 soups and a sushi roll and I just wish we were given the amount of soup we get when we dine in since it’s the same price. I also order extra noodles to take home with my left over soup when I dine in and obviously this time there was no soup left for the...
Read moreMy son is a ramen nut and he says this place is one of the best ramen restaurants in Houston. I like Ramen OK but it is not my first choice. However, my husband and I were working late staging a home in the West University area and were starving by the time we finished at 9pm. My husband had seen the Tamashi earlier in the week when we were in the area so he suggested we go there. Luckily they were still open until 10pm.
Parking is limited. We found a spot in front but that is rare. I am told they have additional parking in the back. At such a late hour, they were not too crowded and we were seated right away. They prep all the empty tables with napkins, utensils and menus so we just had to sit and we had what we needed for our meal already.
We decided to order the Tamashi Menn which is the shrimp ramen. I don’t like the creamy broths so this one was perfect for me - Bold flavors in a clearer broth. It was served with several grilled shrimp. We also ordered the two roll combo with 1. Spicy tuna roll and 2. Yellowtail with jalapeño. Both were good but I felt the spicy tuna roll was a little too squishy. The rolls also came with a side of seaweed salad.
Servers were pretty attentive and made sure we never got low on water. The food came out so quickly.
They have 5 locations in Houston. We will be back and will also check out some of the other locations...
