I had just got done with a 4 Hour Drive from Dallas to meet my sister in Houston for a photo shoot at McGovern Bicentennial Park. She had a spot nearby at what I affectionately call “the cookie hotel” but when I got there, I could not find her so I went straight into the lobby bathroom to begin the primping process before the photo shoot. The photo shoot was scheduled to start at 8 AM sharp and I got there at about 6:57 AM. When I walked into the bathroom, two other employees were kind enough to follow me inside to make sure that I was doing OK. I was inside the stall changing, I didn’t use the bathroom, or even use the sink, because the only thing I needed to do was to get dressed for the shoot. I was so happy that they were there to keep an eye on me and make sure that I wasn’t falling into the toilet or something silly. You know us girls! After about 20 minutes and still no sign of my sister, Jessica the manager came inside to see if I needed any help. She told me that the two employees who saw me from inside the other stall had superpowers! They both had x-ray vision as one could see into the stall and reported that I was using the toilet, the other could see me at the sink “washing up” when she wasn’t even inside! Strange though because as previously mentioned I didn’t touch the toilet or the sink. I didn’t worry about it though, maybe Professor X can give them a tune-up. So Jessica stood there graciously as I struggled with my head wrap, even inviting the security guard Ali inside to watch me as well. I searched frantically through my bags, looking for my jewelry but during this stressful process, Ali was a total gentleman. He spoke to me, as if I was his own daughter. He treated me with so much kindness and respect. I was actually shocked at how kind his words were and how they made me feel calm in my moment of panic. Jessica and Ali worked in tandem to ensure that I was safe inside the restroom even offering to call the police if I was uncomfortable for any reason at all. Jessica, was completely influenced by Ali because although her encouragement was initially reasonably balanced, the more he increased the intensity of his encouragement she did too. I was happy that even through their excitement they were able to give me ample time to explain my missing jewelry, give more details about my sister and the photoshoot and everything. Unfortunately with the cacophony from both Jessica, Ali and Valerie, my insides began to move, my body began to react in real time to the beautiful excitement of the moment. So although actually calm on the outside and vigilantly and thoroughly non-reactive to their empowerment, suddenly I needed to use the restroom right away. The body always takes the score! And Jessica was just so gracious to allow me to relieve myself. I mean woman to woman, human to human that’s all you can ask. I’m so grateful that Ali stepped out of the restroom, took hold of my property and kindly carried my bags to the curb. What a gentleman! And guess what? Even after carrying my bags out, Ali followed me to the car and took pictures of me. I was initially, totally unaware of this as I sat in my car on my phone but when I noticed, he promptly fast walked away and continued to film from a distance. I think he just wanted to give me a pre-taste of the photoshoot. I took some snaps of him as well just to make sure I remembered his face, so when I tell my dad about how nice he was to me, he can give him his best. I’m so grateful to Jessica, the manager; Ali, the security guard; the lovely staff lookouts; and Valerie, the bystander, for ensuring that my time at my favorite cookie hotel was nothing short of memorable. God willing, this experience will be drowned out by others; it was just so sweet, it seems like it should stay right where it is. And yes, the photoshoot was fantastic! Thank you to the staff for all of your support. I look forward to the day when each and every one of you will have an experience just like mine. One can only hope to have strangers be so kind to you during your...
Read moreWe had a 2 bedroom suite over Labor Day weekend. Smelled smoke and skunky pot in the hallways. First thing we saw when we entered our suite was a stiff, smelly cleaning rag in the kitchen sink, and a dirty spoon wedged down in the garbage disposer. I'm pretty confident that sink was not really clean.
On the dining room table, 2 legs were unbolted and the entire table canted to one side when we touched it, spilling everything onto the floor. Very lucky it did not collapse completely. The "engineer" said he would be back with a new table. We asked for a wrench and had him tighten the screws instead.
Two phones in the rooms were completely non-functional. Promises to rectify that matter did not happen in the 3 days we were there, despite multiple requests.
When we left the room on Sunday morning, a housekeeping cart was in front of the next room. When we got back past 4 PM, our room had not been cleaned. We called the front desk to ask why (15 minute wait on hold. There was no "Housekeeping" button on the phone.) Front desk clerk's response "I just came on at 3 PM so I have no idea why your room hasn't been cleaned. I'm here alone, I'll have to get back to you." He did not. We finally were able to procure clean towels, but never did get the room cleaned.
Pulled out a hair dryer after my shower. NO on/off switch, just a gaping hole. Stopped down at the pool on Saturday night. Apparently the only cleaning that gets done is early mornings. Half-eaten fruit pieces, leaves and blossoms in abundance, and cloudy water put an end to that idea very quickly. The smell of chlorine was eye-watering.
There was a brochure in our room, detailing current availability of hotel amenities. They touted their Main Street Tavern and Grill at length and offered information regarding in-room and in-restaurant dining. We proceeded to the restaurant at 6 PM for their "world-famous mead-brined chicken", and also to enquire about their Sunday brunch they very lavishly detailed, for the next morning. There was an accordion door halfway across the doorway, but lights were on, so we ventured in. A man slowly approached us but appeared confused as to why we were there. We asked about dinner, he waved us to a table, informed us curtly that the bar was closed, and handed us a paper menu with 4 or 5 types of sandwiches. When we asked about chicken, he had not a clue what we were referring to. Apparently no one in the hotel told the restaurant they were supposed to be a famous chicken place. When we mentioned the advertised Sunday Brunch he looked at us as though we were speaking gibberish. Then he said if we wanted a real restaurant, with a real menu, we should walk around to the rear of the Wyndham and dine at the Intercontinental. Which is what we did. Excellent food and service there, by the way. We will very likely stay there next trip.
We stayed at this independently-owned Wyndham for its proximity to Hermann Park, the Natural Science Museum and the Zoo (all of which were amazing and a re-visit is being planned as we speak.) Most definitely not worth the aggravation, given all the other hotels that...
Read moreThis hotel had a wonderful check in representative who greets with a smile and friendly service; it went all down hill after that. Our hotel suite had a wonderful layout, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen, living room, dining room, and thermostats in each room for your own ac temperatures. But unfortunately the suite was dirty, dusty, and very old. The dishwasher in the kitchen was barely in, the stove iron burners were hanging off and didn’t fit, the master bathroom had hair in the tub, on the soap dish, and under the sink. There was a old hair pony tail holder on the nightstand covered in dust, the desk, tv stand and second bedroom were very dusty. I would have asked for housekeeping but during our check in another person asked for housekeeping and was told they were gone for the day, it was 4pm. The hallways were never vacuumed the whole weekend we were there and the elevators were never wiped down and sanitized they whole time we were there. Throughout the suite there were old yellow phones two of which did not work. The curtains were dirty and nasty; the ac vents were dusty. There were also two irons in the suite that did not work and when I called for a working one I had to go downstairs myself and get it instead of someone bringing it to my room. Thankfully I carry cleaning supplies and Lysol with me when I travel, I always have, so I was able to clean as much as I could. You also have to pay for parking regardless if you self park or valet. And when you check out check your itemized bill very carefully because they tried adding additional parking charges on my bill and fought me on removing the mysterious charges. After 30 minutes of back and forth it was finally removed. As a proud Wyndham Vacation owner I was not only disgusted, insulted, and appalled but embarrassed. I chose this Wyndham hotel for my family to stay at because of the brand I thought Wyndham stood for and because of my amazing experiences at other Wyndham hotels and resorts. But after my horrible experience at this hotel I may have to rethink that thought. My family and I started our stay at this hotel with an amazing checkin representative only to leave angry, disgusted, and irritated. Needless to say I would not recommend this hotel to anyone not even my worse enemy, at least not right now. If the owner goes into the 2 bedroom suites or maybe all suites and really looks at how the hotel is being cleaned or lack there of and sanitized, or lack there of; and maybe update your rooms to look like a true Wyndham hotel looks, my feelings would be very different. Do yourself a favor for right now and stay...
