I recently visited Chant and unfortunately I did not have a good experience. Let me start by saying I am a pretty easy going person and rarely do I complain but I was left feeling disappointed. I ordered small plates, the fried green tomato’s, the queso birria egg rolls and the lobster rangoon. The only truly enjoyable item was the rangoon. The menu appeared so promising but the flavors at least in my experience were not there. The egg rolls tasted like there was ginger added to it and the fried green tomatoes had a heavy dill/pickle taste to them. I did not even complain. The problem came in when I ordered a drink and once it arrived it was the worst drink I’ve had. It literally tasted like rubbing alcohol and I am a regular tequila drinker. I could no longer hold my disappointment and asked for a manager after my server told me he could not switch out the drink and that I still had to pay for the drink regardless. Mind you i legit took 2 sips max. The manager came over and in an offended tone told me he made the drinks himself and that’s how it should taste and he is not going to take it back and waste alcohol. I asked if we could swap it for another item or at least remove it from the bill he refused and again stated I will not waste alcohol. But it’s okay to waste my money on a drink that has not been drank? He went on to say the drink was made exactly how it was supposed to be made and basically it is what it is and walked off after giving me his name. I felt so disappointed and disgusted because he talked over me and it was like my opinion on what I ordered did not matter. Try this place at your own risk but I do not recommend the general managers name is Aldo and I have never had an encounter with a manager like him before he didn’t even at least say I am sorry you didn’t enjoy what you ordered he was completely defensive. Again O would not recommend. The ambiance was cute in all honesty and my server was polite but did not feel like a valued customer. The picture is how the drink was left on the table...
Read moreI JUST left from Chant! I ordered the Lobster Rangoon, Crispy Shrimp Rolls, and Chicken & Shrimp fried rice ($59.81)! First, I couldn't call my order in because they don't accept orders over the phone. I went in to order and sat for my food. The wait was approximately 15 minutes. I left AFTER checking my bag and felt that the Shrimp rolls were hot and crispy. I get in my car and ate ONE and it was nice & hot! I pulled off with joy & excitement about my food UNTIL I tried the Rangoon and I was thoroughly disappointed. I go to Chant enough to know what the Rangoon taste like. I was ONLY block from the restaurant so there was no reason for my Rangoon to NOT be hot & delicious as the Crispy Shrimp Roll.
I RETURN to restaurant (a block away) to share with the host/cashier that there was a problem with my food. She okay and asked the cooks to make me another ordee. After that I was met with an unapologetic & unempathetic chef! He gave me a refund (which I didn't ask for) and went to explain that it was fresh and things happen 🤷🏾♀️.I sat and waited for my remade ordered. A few minutes went by and I asked another hostess if my ordered was being made because I didn't want to assume and she said yes. The chef came to the front again with an attitude about the confusion. He wasn't pleasant about my concern. He was VERY defensive and I told him that and mentioned how "it looks like we won't be able to have a productive conversation that will be solution oriented" he proceeds to ROLL HIS EYES and say, "Well, that's why I gave you the refund. It's gonna be the same! What you want some free food"? 🤯🤯
He waves to the cooks in the back (again with an attitude) to prepare me another order of the Lobster Rangoon and that order was the complete opposite of what I had. It still piping hot grease & the filling was hot.
I'm extremely disappointed because I come there enough and have spent hundreds of Dollars between dining in, grub hub/ door dash, carry out ETC. to be treated in this manner...

I recently visited Chantz in Hyde Park and had an overall enjoyable experience — though it ended on a disappointing note.
The atmosphere was vibrant but not overcrowded, and the live band added a great energy to the evening. My sister and I were seated comfortably, and the service initially was attentive and friendly. I ordered my go-to drink, hot sake — specifically the Black & Gold, which is always a favorite. My sister had a chocolate martini, which she really enjoyed.
Our bartender, Eric, was pleasant and very engaging throughout the night. However, the experience took a turn when he offered us shots of tequila after we had both declined another round of drinks. He insisted, saying he wanted us to “have a good time tonight,” and asked what kind of tequila we liked. I again said I was okay, but he still poured two shots of Don Julio Blanco, complete with lime and salt.
We assumed it was a complimentary gesture — especially since we never asked for it — so we went ahead and took the shots. We continued enjoying the music and finished our meals. My sister had the birria tacos, which were absolutely delicious. I had the egg rolls, which were underseasoned until I tried the sweet chili sauce — that finally gave them the kick they needed.
But the real disappointment came when I asked for the bill and noticed the tequila shots had been added to the tab. It caught me off guard. What if I hadn’t had the funds for those shots? We didn’t request them, and it felt misleading.
I didn’t raise a fuss at the time, but it did leave a sour taste in my mouth — literally and figuratively. If this is standard practice at Chantz, it’s something worth reconsidering.
Overall, I give my experience a 6 out of 10. Great ambiance, solid music, mostly good food — but questionable service choices left me...
