This was my very visit to Pizza Capri in Hyde Park. Overall great place, I liked the atmosphere. Now lets get to the details. My order: Cheese Sticks Pizza Tequila Lime Chicken Fettucine
Lets start with the server, she was ok, seemed like she was irritated while I was trying to decide what to order, no smile, not a very pleasant person. She made the ordering and table ordeal a little uncomfortable. They gave me a basket of bread and with that a bottle of oil with garlic, pesto and some other ingredients. The bread and oil were very nice.
As I was inspecting the menu the server walked by with a plate of what looked like cheese sticks, I said excuse me were those? I would like to order that. The cheese sticks, Yes. They came super fast and I could not wait to bite into one. I loved those. can't complain nice hot and the marinara sauce that they came with was excellent.
I came there to try the pizza, I am on a quest to taste as many pizzas in Chicago. So here it is. I ordered a half cheese, and half pepperoni with green peppers. 1st they got that wrong the pep and green peppers were supposed to be on one half. The pepperoni was on the whole pizza and the green pepper was on one half. That's not how I wanted it. Ok fine. lets taste it. 1st impression nice looking crust. So I take a bite. RED Baron, and Tombstone. Wow! I usually only order cheese when I am testing a pizza so that I can get the full understanding of how that places pizza taste and like I said that was a store brought style pizza. I can only go off that and since my pizza was super simple. Here is what I didn't like the pepperoni was too much salty and all over under the cheese, sauce barely had any, crust ok, texture of the crust was nice but the flavor of it was just ok, the whole pizza was not very good. I can say I would never ever go there for a pizza. I've read some reviews about how good the specialty pizzas are, and I would try one but I would not want to waste my money.
Now lets get to meat of this review. I was super skeptical about the pasta from the start , even before tasting the and being the pizza was not hitting on anything that made my expectations drop even lower. I went for the Tequila Lime Chicken Fettucine. 1st bite OMG my mouth was having an orgasm! LOL First time in my entire life having a good pasta dish from any restaurant other than Olive Garden. Now I know some people will read this and say Olive Garden seriously! They make good pasta in my opinion and it's something I replicate at home. Their Fettucine Chicken Alfredo is my favorite. that is my Favorite dish. So of course I judge places on how well it taste compared to Olive Garden. Well Pizza Capri knocked that dish out of the 3 parks! I was so happy because I was thinking oh boy nasty pizza well this pasta isn't going to be good. Oh was I wrong. So I will be going back to try more of that dish and some others.
Overall considering the pizza disaster and the not so pleasant server. I can still give them a decent review. For everyone reading this, pizza capri has some good food. This is only based on what I wrote above, Oh the sandwiches look amazing as well, as for how good they are well I will have to try one and see. But from what I saw I don't think I would be disappointed. I'm definitely going back for that Tequila Lime Chicken Fettucine that is my Favorite! But you can...
Read moreI have been ordering full and half pans of mostaccoli from this restaurant and location for years. This Thanksgiving eve, I decided to try the lasagna, for the first time, as well and specifically, requested each with meat sauce, as I normally do with the mostaccoli. My pick-up was at 8pm, the night before Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, I assumed all was well and did not check the lasagna order, which was prepared with all cheese, and I was unable to contact the manager because they were closed Thanksgiving day. Friday morning, I immediately contacted the manager and explained that the order was not correct and due to their closure, I was unable to return on Thanksgiving day. I was asked if some had been eaten, and informed that I could receive a refund or credit towards the uneaten portion when I return with it. To me, that seemed fair, but here's where we lost all integrity with the manager and restaurant. We decided to go with the credit to use towards our Christmas order, which seemed like a great idea. Not!!!!!!!!!!!! We placed the order, as usual, my husband went to pick it up and, again, assumed the quality of service was as in the past. This restaurant made sure to prepare us the worst mostaccoli they could. A typical order comes with sauce , peppers, and cheese topping, baked. This order had no peppers, no sauce, and no cheese topping. They also made sure that the order did not fill the brim. Now, I can make a pan of mostaccoli, but I like the convenience of having as less as possible to cook, as I can, on holidays and it tastes good. I never ever thought that this restaurant, after rendering a $25 discount on our next order, due to their mistake, would, personally, utilize the opportunity as a means to recoup the gesture. I didn't have the energy to complain. This incident confirmed they felt a certain way about the complaint, and I'm really glad we didn't get sick from the dish because that was an intentional act. What else would they do. Never received an order of mostaccoli to look like that before. My trust is totally gone, and I will not spend another dime there to cater to their business. Had I had any inclination of this possibility, I would have chosen the refund. I can't say what the motivation was, but just an FYI, I am a...
Read moreFood was very bland, much Parmesan and salt needed just to give flavor, Manager Uriah immediately screamed at us as soon as we can through the door about full parties only, and when we told all 5 of us were there, he screamed again and then obnoxious counted us to make sure and then finally showed us to a table (1 star because at least there was no wait time). The whole thing was really a premonition and a sign we should've just left but how many places can sit 5 ppl immediately?? In the city of Chicago??? Cmon now. So whatever. We order. I got butter chicken pasta, very bland. Added half the shaker of Parmesan and a good concerning amount of salt just to finally have some type of flavour to go with the overcooked dry chicken. Somebody got cheese bread which was fine. I mean i dont see how you can mess up cheese bread so. Somebody got the cream of potato soup. Nothing special. Salt and oil were added. Somebody got salmon and spinach. Also had to be flavored. Somebody got another pasta that i cant recall the name of but tuscany something which also lacked flavor. She ended up ordering a salad to go because you CANNOT mess up salad and at that point we were ready to go. The waitress seemed really busy, to the point where we had to flag her down after waiting 20mins without her showing up so somebody could order. Also the complimentary bread is cold and we had to ask a few times to get another one.
Overall, the food was bland. It was really the initial treatment upon walking in the establishment that really stopped me from even trying to have a positive attitude towards the poor quality of things. Also, the server again was clearly in a rush as she kept trying to finish sentences instead of letting us finish talk and then trying to correct us. And gratuity is auto-added which i guess is fine when it comes to tip security and it's under 20%, but it wouldve been nice to be told beforehand it was preincluded and also taxed. 0/10 will NOT...
