June 15-16,2021. We has an amazing time at the Lazy Hostel. It was our 1st time staying in a hostel, too. We booked with Porsha who is wonderful and responsive. Call the hostel directly. If they don’t answer at first, try different times. They’re just busy running the hostel. The place has a superb location in Esperanza and close to other restaurants and activities tours. The rooms are simple, but clean and safe. Originally, We booked the private room bed/bath, but it was for 2 people not 4 as described in the Booking.com website. Again, it is better to call directly and ask your questions. Then, we booked the quadruple room with shared bath and shower. It was nice, clean, simple and comfortable-IF you’re aware you’re staying and paying a hostel price, you will like it. I’d go back! All staff were friendly. Office opens around 8 am. Check in 3pm-checkout 11am. Next door, you will find the Lazy Jacks for food and drinks. They’re the only restaurant that is open until 12:30am in the city. Amazing oceanfront views. Be aware if the slow pace , “Island time”. Most of the other places opens at 10am-closes at 3pm. Try Bili restaurant for breakfast and Duffy’s restaurant for lunch. Also, most places are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays to re-stock. 5 minutes walking distance from the hostel you will find Lydia’s mini market where you can buy food and other necessities. You can pay $5 each way fir a “publico”(Van) to take you from abs to the Vieques ferry- which is about 15-20 from Esperanza. The Bio Bay night tour is a must. Thank you Porsha and All staff from the...
Read moreThis was one of the most relaxing trips we've ever taken! The hostel vibe is unlike anything we've experienced! From the moment we arrived, we had the warmest welcome from locals and members of the staff! A lovely girl,Kat showed us to our room and took the time to give us a full tour of the hostel facilities. She was fantastic!😁 Our room was an adorable quad with 2 full sized, comfortable, bunk beds and a fabulous air conditioner! The bathroom facilities and showers are shared, which was just fine for us. The staff keeps them extremely clean! Towels for showers and the beach are abundant, as well as natural bug repellent if needed. We took advantage of the bug repellent for our nighttime kayak tour on Bioluminescent Bay, which is a must see!! Book your tour through the hostel! They use Melayas tour company. Peachy, our guide was top notch! He knows all the science and conservation efforts happening at Bio Bay as well as being an amazing astronomer!||Getting back to Lazy Hostel, I can't say enough good about the entire staff! We felt like family and can't wait to go back! They really do foster a community atmosphere where you can make instant friends. Kat, Adam, Corey,Hannah W,Hannah F,Porche,Justin,Alec,Andie,Tim,Hope and Robin.I apologize if I've forgotten anyone! It's a rarity to stay somewhere, where literally every staff member is invaluable! Read moreThe location is excellent, just off the main strip in Esperanza (its a small strip). Theres a lovely cafe for breakfast and coffee a minute away. Price is fine for the island.||Its almost comical how noisy it is at night. Its a tiny island but you have the full range of city noises - restaurant, bar, cars passing w loud music, ppl chatting. It is v loud into the evening. For me, it wasnt a problem and they provide ear plugs but if you are light sleeper then think twice. Not sure if its the same mid week.||The room and en suite are really homely, the floor couldve been cleaner. The room retains the cold from the AC, but blankets are provided. The room is a good size. ||Its like an air bnb not a hotel or guesthouse. Theres no reception desk, but instructions about access were all easy to follow. Service levels were adequate, if they made a bit more effort with hospitality, it may feel a bit less...
