I'll start off with the good, this is one of the cheapest places you can find anywhere in Jacksonville. There might be one or two places that Less expensive but only by a few bucks at the most and then I really would be taking my chance. Worst thing was their Wi-Fi.... I'm not saying it just was slow or inconsistent... I was saying it didn't even exist. My phone my computer nothing detected the Wi-Fi network. Perhaps I was just in a bad room but I was if anything close to the center of the complex and should have at least had a decent signal. So that sucked. At one point many years ago I am sure this was a very nice place to stay. But that time has come and gone many years ago. The issue I suspect is the area itself. There are three or four hotels on this very same strip of road all within a quarter mile. Now with that said two of them I believe are closed down, this is a good thing. Once I visited one of those motels late at night to pick up some friends in boy let me tell you it was very scary and the Quality Inn is not like that. It's not to the point where by you are literally scared for your safety. The hotel itself has a very poor surrounding area immediate to the parking lot and outside the rooms themselves there's trash a lot of places and it's just very much unkempt. On Thanksgiving Day I actually saw what appeared to be a bum with a can of alcohol sitting in one of the corridors. I presume they promptly got rid of him because he wasn't there about an hour later but still the fact that this place is attracting that kind of person is unbecoming. The rooms are themselves quite large but leave just about everything to be desired. They are not so much dirty as they are old and run down. They smell of mold or wet dog or just something also unbecoming. Incense sticks definitely failed to do anything . It's a bad feeling walking into your room after a long day and you get hit with a offensive moldy aroma. The fixtures in the room or all rusted severely. I mean it's probably the original fixtures from when this place was first built 30 or 40 or however many years ago it was. They did have a hair dryer and an ironing board so that was nice. The bathroom unfortunately had a panel coming off the wall by the toilet which I presume water had gotten behind and I could see what appeared to be black mold. This same moldy panel was spawning some flying insects which was annoying. I have to say the room was moderately clean, the microwave was nice and clean the fridge was definitely acceptable the counters and table tops and everything had been wiped down for sure so I'll give the cleaning crew credit is nothing that they're doing wrong it's just that this place is basically old and it's starting to need a renovation for sure. Worst part of all of this was no Wi-Fi whatsoever. I'm really pissed off about that because I spent pretty much all of my data on my Wi-Fi hotspot over the course of my 3-day stay here. I would have never ever ever stayed here if I knew that their Wi-Fi didn't work. I called and complained to the front desk two or three times and there was nothing that anyone could do including the owner who I believe is Indian surprise surprise. There's something inherently wrong about that but is there some law that was passed by all of the hotels in the Jacksonville metro area must be owned by Indian people only? Is it possible that there's a hotel or motel that a european-american owns...
Read moreI made a reservation with Agoda for 29 days, from 3/3 to 4/1.
On 3/21, a woman with no Quality Inn badge or shirt knocked on my door after I had gone to bed, around 10 pm. She said she was from the front desk insisted that I must open the door and talk to her. She said that their hotel had accidentally agreed to the 28 day reservation, but that their hotel policy due to Florida tenant laws was 21 days, and they would only allow me to stay that long, that I'd have to check out a week earlier than I had already paid for. She told me to talk to the front desk in the morning, which I did.
This threw an enormous wrench in my plans and caused me huge amounts of stress.
Furthermore the hotel itself fell far short of what I've come to expect from Quality Inn. Breakfast had no protein, except perhaps for sugary yogurt--no eggs, sausage, or cheese. The coffee was obviously brewed at half strength in a misguided effort to save money. The hotel grounds themselves were covered in litter, the pool and hot tub were both closed and looked terrible, the two elevators both had known and ongoing issues during my entire stay, and weren't even labeled as out of order. The linens, towels, and sheets were full of stains and the smell of previous customer's aftershave, which leads me to believe this hotel is skimping on soap and bleach as well.
There was no chair in my room for the desk, ever. The sink and tub stoppers were both broken. Housekeeping stopped by exactly once during my three week stay; I asked for towels and sheets, and she gave towels with no washrags, so I had to get washrags and turn in my dirty linens to the front desk myself, and I also was given sheets so that I could make my own bed.
On one corner roof of the hotel closest to the dumpsters, there must have been 20 room keycards, tossed by previous guests, left there by an owner that doesn't care how bad his hotel looks.
The vending machines in the lobby were broken at several times during my visit, and did not accept credit cards.
On 3/23, an employee asked me to take a picture of my changed reservation on the Agoda app, because he said their system had not been updated.
On 3/24, when I was checking out, an employee told me I had to contact Agoda and sort out the change in reservation, which I had already shown the day before, and I told her that was not my problem.
I understand Florida transient vs tenant law very well. In this case, their hotel did not configure their Agoda correctly--which they told me they fixed (don't care)--and rather than accept the risk of their mistake, they put me through enormous stress and inconvenience instead.
One of the worst hotel experiences of my life, and after this and other stays in Atlanta and Orlando have caused me to have no confidence that Quality Inn enforces standards for the properties they manage. Furthermore, I've never heard of telling a good customer whose money has already been taken that they must leave a week earlier because of the...
Read moreI will break this down in three parts. Rooms and building. Simple put, its dated, most of it looks old. The building itself looks like they are taking a long time to fix it up. It shows in the simple things like lights blinking out, carpet that was stained, and the way the stuff like the elevator is dated old, along with it not been inspected since 2022. The room itself felt like they made it nice and all but It showed it was also work in progress. The bathroom looked very good and recently done. The rest of the room showed it was fixed up well. Two issues came up during my stay. First the mini fridge was not looking new, felt like several years old and abused. There was only one self in it, and the shelf was worned down on some of the bars. Second issue, one of the walk panels on at the base of the wall and floor came loose. It looked like it was placed there, and there was no glue on it to keep it in place. It was reported that night and still loose when I checked out six days later. The bed was hard to sleep on. Felt like an old spring bed. Felt like it so much that my back hurt getting up in the morning.
Staff. The checking in was easy and quick. It was late when I checked in with my wife. Only issue was that got a room for disabilities but it seemed like it was not set up for a handicap person. They tried to fix it but this was the best they could offer. The rest of the desk staff was pleasant to talk to over the time we were there. Even the breakfast Attendant was helpful and a joy to see during those morning hours. The housekeeping crew, was interesting. They cleaned well but missed a few things like pieces of paper that was left by me. I like to see how people clean if we leave a small mess. We had trash from the next room sitting in a big bag next to our door, and two days later; one could smell it pretty bad. I gave the staff higher grades, cause most of the actually cared about their jobs. Did run into a interesting moment with staff. One of the housekeepers had limited english, which made it a challenge to explain what not to touch in our room. His co worker helped, but its something that should be helped. Location. On the map, it looks simple and nice out of the way place. Problem is that its close to two abandon hotels, or motels which gives off an unsafe vipe. Plus the back of the building is like a hideaway for things going on that no one should see. The interstate behind us was a small issues, but it didn't hurt it anymore then normal. Its good aa far as close to food, and stores. In the end, the best thing to say is, we won't be back and think as it is about this place. Staff well good, but its not worth the price unless you get a deal that is too good. Even then Its not worth the risk. I like the staff and I can't fault them for the place, but I can say the company needs to fix it up, make it faster. Put up something to make one feel secure...
