We were so disappointed in this hotel. Understanding that it appeared to be under new management and was being upgraded, we thought any customers that booked would be accommodated to the best of the hotel’s ability. We were wrong, so very wrong. When we booked online, we requested a room in the first floor and nonsmoking. When we arrived, we were given a room in the second floor and had to pay a deposit for nonsmoking…in case we smoked. We were told by the very disheveled checkin man. I’m going to assume the new owner, who was frantically trying to explain about the need for the deposit and room on the second floor. My husband finally agreed to the deposit and we both tried to understand that the man was trying to say the first floor was being renovated. Upon entering the elevator, tiny and rickety, we went to the second floor. The super strong chemicals smells in the lobby was not as bad here. The room was ok. Microwave and little fridge were ok, after I cleaned them. We had three old and worn pillows for the king bed. Going into the bathroom we found three threadbare hand towels, no bath towels or washcloths. My patience with this hotel was getting as thin as those crappy little towels. My husband went back downstairs to request, bath towels, blankets and additional pillows. He came back with one small blanket, deep breath. We are not critics or yelp reviewers or anyone special. We just needed somewhere clean to sleep and shower. They were probably short on decent towels and pillows. The next morning, we left directly from the room to our vehicle, not even thinking about “free breakfast.” Might as well just go since one of the renovation worker was on the second floor loudly cursing and pleading with his wife while pacing up and down the hallway at 0630. Anyway, we just blamed road weariness on our sour outlook and went on with our day. We would have put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door, we do this because we don’t make messes and have no need to change the bed linens or towels, (haha). But, there was no sign to hang. We never once, in three days had or was offered fresh anything. We stayed the few days just to have somewhere to sleep. We were trying to give them the benefit of doubt because ? maybe they were new at the hotel game? maybe they had little to no money??? Our last morning before hitting the road, my husband went downstairs to try the “free breakfast.” It was watered down gravy and old coffee. When he picked up his plate and coffee to come back to the room, the same guy, that had been here every day and night, became upset, asking him to remain in the tiny eating area. We loaded the truck with our things and were checking out. The same disheveled clerk/owner had his wife go upstairs to make sure all three hand towels, three pillows and the old, small blanket were still there. Of course they were still there. Looking back, we could have gotten belligerent, indignant and demanding. But, you might want to just wait a bit before...
Read moreTldr:The reviewer had a frustrating stay, with issues including uncooperative staff, unexpected fees, a dirty room, and possible bed bug bites. Despite pre-paying and confirming check-in details, the hotel worker (likely the owner's son) was difficult and argumentative, even refusing to return the insurance deposit. The reviewer vowed not to return due to poor service.
I pre called the hotel regarding what days I should book if I'm checking in at 1am. I was told to pay for the day before hand, so I did. Upon arriving the hotel worker (which I'm assuming is the owners son) was telling me that I cannot check in at 1 am and was NOT wanting to check us in. We (my husband and I) stood there and asked "we'll we already called b4 hand, prepaid, and it's 2 degrees outside...what are we supposed to do" he finally calls owner. Great! Expect then he begins talking about charges:$50 insurance deposit,$25 non smoking room fee (huh???) And the pet fee $25 (called 2 days before arrival was told it was only $10). He ended up wanting to charge us another $235, which is the price we prepaid. We were confused as for the price and then ended up only paying for the deposit, but MAY have to pay for more in the morning. Whatever The room was gross, dog food, old hair, poo stains in toilet. I ended up finding tiny blood stains on the white sheets, but no evidence of actual bed bugs. The rooms also reeked of smoke. Ended up buying a diffuser to help with it. Day 2 of sleeping over and I woke up to 3 big bites on my arm. Mind you, MO does not get bitters when it's barely 10 degrees out. Double checked for bed bugs, did not find any proof now besides the bites and blood stains. Check out This hotel WILL automatically disconnect your key card the day of check out. We got locked out of our room while trying to unpack our items to our car. Had to go to the counter to get rechecked in. Low and behold, it was the SAME SON that checked us in. He asked us our check out time, we said today at 11am, and fixed the card without a problem. Actual check out came around 8am, we bring our paper back that stated we paid the insurance deposit. This man sat there and argued with us that the paper, he gave us when we checked in, was the not the paper for the deposit. He stated that we would of not been able to get a room without the paper. This time, we told him to check his books and his camera. He asked us the same question 5 times: when we checked in, when we are checking out, and what day it was. FIVE TIMES! He absolutely did not want to give us the deposit back. He finally agreed to and that ended our stay there. We also got accused of smoking in our room.
I have stayed here many times and never had these problems. Please drug test your workers and retrain. I will definitely not be recommending or even coming...
Read moreStayed here with my 2 cats from April 25th to May 9th and very pleased with new owners, staff and accommodations. This is only a 2 star but I was treated like a 5 star guest. The room was clean, all bed and bath linen was snow white, the fridge was cold, microwave was new, a/c, heat worked well and the king bed was new, firm and my back was happy with it. The continental breakfast was toast, cold cereal, biscuits and gravy, and hot Folger's coffee. They provided a good variety of drinks, snacks and sandwiches sold at the desk. It's close to the Capitol Bldg and cheap transportation is available to anywhere in town and vicinity. It's 3 stories high, allows smoking on the 3rd floor, hallways/lobby/office/dining room were very clean. I was concerned about several negative reviews but was assured by the owners at check-in that when they bought this place in December they kicked out several locals who then trashed talked them online and guaranteed my cats and I would be safe and enjoy our stay, and we did. Plus, the rates are great compared to the bigger chains and my wallet liked this place, too. Business will bring me to town multiple times between now and election day, I will definitely stay here and recommend you do, too. I want to add that there's a modern, dependable elevator, too. As a note to out of town guests, I travel alot and I know that renting to locals can be a problem. However, the new owners are particular and won't tolerate any negative behavior. In 2 weeks I met nearly every one of the few locals here and they were nice and respectful and I saw no signs of any nefarious behavior. I am writing this lengthy review because I believe in the new owner's mission to make this a safe, comfortable place for travelers to stay, they have earned my business, and I will stay here every time I'm...
