Desk service was good, elevators were fast, the room was clean and stocked but my picky little self has a list of grievances. when the air conditioner was running it made a vibrating noise that was so bad I could not sleep. Maintenance supposedly came up and fixed it but I ended up having to shove a hassock up against the front of the unit to keep it from vibrating and making me stay awake all night. Ice machine was spitting out chunks of ice that had gross stuff in iy. Reported it to the front desk and the very next day they had someone working on it but the filter on the inlet water supply line was dated 2013. Refrigerator is extremely small and obviously the cabinet was sized for a much larger unit. The refrigerator kept freezing my food no matter what setting I put the temperature setting at. My veggies were ruined so I had to store them in the cooler on the floor. Weird coffee pod unit. You cannot buy these pods at the grocery store. Please step into the 2000s and get your rooms set up with Keurig MINI units so we can just buy what we want and not pay $10 for coffee downstairs. I specifically chose this hotel because they had a bar and a restaurant and they were closed when I showed up so I ended up eating in my room using the microwave. That's a pretty sad existence for a traveler. The internet was extremely slow and the certificate renewed every morning at 7:17 a.m. so my Skype sessions with Europe would get interrupted and I would have to renew while everyone overseas waited for me to rejoin the connection. You really ought to rethink this and get the connections to renew in the middle of the night so when we wake up in the morning we automatically get updated instead of in the middle of a meeting. Lame. I paid 10$ for Premium internet and it literally tested at the same bandwidth as the free internet service. Lame. Bathroom sink drain was really slow to drain. Lighting is poor. Very low light unless daytime and the window is open. There is actually a building code for lighting in the hotel industry, and the room I was in is not up to code.
Positive things. Parking was easy. Desk people were quick and efficient. Very good location with close access to all kinds of amenities and services as well as the performing arts center. Very quiet environment. Did not hear a lot of sirens or Street sounds and I was on the second floor. Elevator is secure with card access required to reach the floors where people sleep. There is a good safe in the room that was easy to use. That's all I can think of...
Read moreLoved Jefferson City; hated the hotel. We made a reservation 8 days before our visit for a 1 room suite with whirlpool. When we got to the front desk the woman who checked us in just looked up at us. No smile, no comment, nothing. We asked to check in, she gave us keys, and that was it. No smile, no comment at all. We brought all our luggage to the room and found out it was the wrong room type. We brought everything back down and waited in line, got the same woman, and explained that it was the wrong room type. Without saying a word (maybe she could have said "I'm sorry; let me check on that") she huddled around the computer for 5 minutes with the other check-in clerk, crossed out the wrong room number and penned in another, and handed the keys back, with NO COMMENT. So I said, "is this the right room type?", and she dismissively says "of course!". The room is poorly maintained. The heater sounds like a freight train when it starts up, and is impossible to sleep through. We eventually got the room hot and then turned off the heater for the rest of the night. The bathroom shower has NO shelves place to put anything (see picture). The ceiling vent was hanging by one screw, and the toilet paper dispenser is BEHIND the seat and too far away to reach (and I'm a 6' male). We had to put the toilet paper on the floor (not convenient or sanitary). When we checked out we were met by Sierra (who also couldn't smile), and she gave us a bill for the wrong amount. I then pulled up our reservation on my phone and asked her to check/correct the amount. She said "read that to me". I showed her the phone and the reservation information. She said again, with anger, "read that to me!". I said "read which part? Here's the whole reservation." Her response? She throws up her hands and says "I can't deal with this." She hands the bill to the other clerk and says "you handle it". The other woman (Sheila, I think) was pleasant and embarrassed by the situation. She found out that when they gave us the wrong room when we checked in, and then the correct room, they mistakenly charged us a higher rate than our original reservation. She apologized (the only person to do so among 4), changed our bill, and we left. The WORST service I've ever had from a hotel, and I used to travel extensively for my job. I can understand people making mistakes, but I can't understand an organization and their people not taking ownership for the mistakes, apologizing, and fixing them. We will NEVER be back, and our confidence in any other DoubleTree property is at an...
Read moreThe hotel is in a great location, walking distance to many restaurants. The parking outside is limited, and the garage is about the same. When the hotel is full, it's difficult to find parking, especially with the garage under construction. The rooms are dated, but clean, and when you travel for work, clean is better than new and not clean. The pool and hot tub have not been available my last few stay, which is unfortunate, but not a deal breaker. Now, to talk about what makes this place special. My first stay I was greeted by a woman at the desk(I cannot remember names for the life of me, but she was dealing with an ankle injury) that was pleasant and got me checked in quickly. I have a down allergy, do everywhere I stay, I request a down free room prior to my visit. Then when I get to the hotel, I ask, because most places do not see the request(Hilton should make this more visible to the employees as this is an issue each place I stay). The woman at desk told me of it is not down free to let her know and we'd get out fixed. It was not, no big deal. Call down to the desk, and the same woman(she's a saint) says she will get me some cotton pillows ASAP, but with limited staff, and her injury, it could be a bit. Completely understandable. I get settled and haven't heard anything so I went down to the desk and she gave me a key to a new room that was reserved for down allergies, said to call her if it doesn't work. I moved in and my stay was great. Now, these minor inconveniences could be seen as a negative, but, she was trying her best, and I refuse to put negativity on effort. Fast forward, I've stayed 2 or 3 more times and the same woman(not sure if she lives here or what) has greeted me by name when I walk through the door. Excited to see me, and makes great conversation. She has made sure that the allergy issue has never happened again and I can't say that for any other place I've stayed multiple times. This woman deserves a call out and I hate that I can't remember her name, but she knows who she is. Every person that works in this building is outstanding from my experience, which says even more about this woman. Kudos to management for putting this staff together. There are certainly newer places to stay in town, but I can bet that the staff at those establishments don't stack up to the doubletree and that is reason enough that I won't stay anywhere else when I come to town. Also,...
