Placed near all the restaraunts and etc in jerome, no huge walks, but its lower elevation so theres a good bit of uphill walking to get to most of the nearby businesses. The rooms are small, with little space, but they are well kept and clean. Of course its important to keep in mind that this building was originally a house and not a hotel so its actually pretty cool how they worked around the limitations of using the floor plan of a large house instead of that of a hotel. Each room is kind of differently themed and decorated, which is neat. The decor and everything here is super cool, the innkeeper, Richard, is a friendly and helpful guy. Meeting him was a pleasure, and he helped us out a lot with a problem with our reservation and promptly cleans rooms. There are some things about the place that are a bit inconvenient, such as there being only a single refridgerator and microwave in the entire building. Also, its probably out of their control, but this place could really use more than 2 designated parking spaces, since it has a total of 6 rooms people can stay in. Of course jerome was built before the existence of cars, so parking was not really something they considered during city planning. Anyways, I do have a couple of concerns. For one, a section of the floor of the upstairs balcony outside the verde view room i think it was called, has a soft spot near the door and a heavy enough person may trigger a collapse. Next, the stairs leading to the second level are outdoors, and during my stay there was snow and rain coupled with sustained cold temperatures. I saw a couple spots where grip tape had been applied, but its mostly worn off... i think those stairs could really use some salt treatment and grip tape to increase safety during ice conditions. also, those stairs leading from the lobby to the garden have a railing that is wobbly and seems prone to collapse, if someone slipped on the icy stairs and tried to catch themselves, i fear the railing would fail and the person would fall. Some of the boards in the upstairs outdoor walkway that connects the americana room to the garden are either loose or soft as well. Overall, i think this place is cool, but it seems like it needs a few repairs. This hotel is really quiet and is a nice place to relax, so its probably great for couples and solo travellers. If you have 3 or more people and want to stay here, i would personally suggest booking more than one room if possible. Overall, i think it is worth staying here, but you need to be sure that it is the right choice for you, and suits your desires for vacationing here. When the weather is clear, the view you can get from the windows and balcony on the road-facing side of the building is pretty good. Probably not the best view in all of jerome, but its nice and i enjoyed it. Staying here is certainly a unique experience, this place has a lot of character. Just be sure to watch your step entering any of the bathrooms, theres a tiny step as the bathrooms floor is slightly higher than the room's floor. Be prepared for a small, slightly inconvenient shower. This place is pretty cool, an the inconveniences that come with it are managable; but it could use some maintenance on the stairs, balcony, and walkways. Once again, thanks for your help, Richard! Read moreIf quaint and historical is what you are looking for in a place to stay, then this is definitely it! The inn sets up on the hillside, just as you are getting into the town. It is next to and within easy walking distance to all the shops, bars, and restaurants all throughout the town of Jerome. Parking may somewhat be of a challenge, depending on the day or time of day you arrive. However, we were able to get a spot that was relatively conveniently close to the inn anytime we needed.
The room was clearly meant for no more than two people, but was nicely decorated with the theme name for the room, “Americana.” Everything was functional, and there were more than enough supplies (shampoo, hairdryer, towels, wash cloths, etc.) offered for our stay. Besides a hanging rack on the wall with some clothes-hangers, there was really only enough room to live out of your luggage. With that said, keep in mind, that the room is in a converted house that is well over one hundred years old! So, there was no complaint as to the lack of space when put in that perspective! Although the quaintness is the appeal to stay here, it is also the reason why I give the room 3 stars instead of more. With these old walls and squeaky floor, you can hear your neighbors rather clearly. However, did I sleep comfortably? Yes! Did the room satisfactorily provide shelter and decent security for my stuff? Yes!
The rest of my experience was certainly a 5-star rating! The manager, Ingrid, made sure to call me the day before my arrival to let me know where I could find parking and then receive my room key when I got there. Upon arrival, I found my key exactly as she described, in an envelope with a letter welcoming me, and giving clear instruction as to how to get to my room. Throughout my stay, when I met a staff member, they were very courteous and welcoming to me, ensuring I had everything I would need for my visit.
Ghost City Inn’s complimentary breakfast – let’s just say that you would be missing out if you didn’t take advantage of their breakfast. They serve the meal in the front room of the cozy house (converted from a living room). The décor is old-fashioned, themed from the 1940’s. Each table was assigned with a label for the name of the room folks were staying, making it easy knowing one didn’t have to scrounge to find seating. Really it felt like you were eating at some sort of family gathering.
The food was absolutely delicious! It was prepared and served by one staff member. Nicole made and served up a frittata on our first morning. It was very tasty with a more than decent portion size. In fact, I really didn’t want anything else to eat until dinner time that evening! The 2nd morning, Nicole prepared strawberry stuffed French toast with sausage links. Again, very tasty and a good portion size! Nicole did a great job of making sure everyone was taken care of, and that they had everything they wanted!
Bottom line is I would certainly highly recommend Ghost City Inn to anyone who asks. The town of Jerome is a unique and interesting place to tour. Ghost City Inn will certainly enhance that experience! And no, I do not work with these guys or have any affiliation with them. Just...
Read moreWe decided to branch out and stay somewhere a little different than where we usually stay in Jerome. Since Ghost City Inn has 2 dog friendly rooms, we were excited to book the Miner's Suite. We had no problem paying a $50 pet fee. It was okay. It's February so it's cold, but the insulation in the room was lacking. You needed to keep the overhead heat running constantly as the door and windows have a constant draft, and the day room and bathroom don't stay warm. The heater is placed right over the bed so dry hot air is always blowing in your face. Insulation was also lacking in terms of sound. We would clearly hear every vehicle going by at night, and we were intimately clued in on every move our upstairs neighbors were making during the day or night. The room itself was clean, cute, and quaint. There is no breakfast served but they had small frittata cupcakes (just okay) from 9-10am every morning and Keurig available in the main room (also just okay.) No issue though as Jerome has great breakfast and coffee options. There is no cleaning service while you're there, which was fine for us; only cleaning between stays. We went for a hike with our dog and used a towel from the room to dry her off after bathing her in the shower so as to keep the room nice and clean. We were charged $28 for a replacement "bathmat" (which is just a white rough towel) and a replacement towel (also another rough towel) because they had brown dirt on them. Clearly by the texture of these towels, they're bleached every time they're washed (as they should be.) So I'd say be wary of using towels on yourself or for any other purpose other than to wipe clear clean water off yourself lest you'll be charged for new ones. Probably wouldn't stay here again but glad we tried...
