Of course, I discovered this place RIGHT before I move to Denver...TRAGIC. Fortunately, my folks live right down the hill in Cottonwood. Needless to say that The Mine Cafe will be on my agenda for all future returns to The Verde Valley. Let's start with the space: they are below street level but not in the basement. I recommend sitting in the main dining room where the kitchen is. The decor makes this room very cozy and inviting, and I LOVE the piano/coffee table. Then there's the food everything is fresh and lovingly prepared. We started out with the biscuit bites, which are little bits of biscuit with gravy. Let me qualify this by saying that I am NOT a fan of biscuits and gravy. But they were placed in front of me, so I'm going to try some. The biscuits were light and warm and just slightly crispy. The gravy was deliciously savoury and not too heavy. I don't know that this made me a biscuits and gravy fan overall, but I would definitely partake in these on a future visit. Being the boring dullard that I am, I stuck with my traditional sausage and eggs for breakfast. The eggs were delicious and fresh. I was initially disappointed that the sausage was a patty. But it was homemade, fresh, and delicious...a home run! Washed down with some delicious French Press coffee, this was easily one of the best breakfasts that I've had in a while. The owners are SUPER nice and will make you feel at home, as if our experience could not have gotten any better. You will want to support this business over and over again because of the quality of the food and service, the locale and the hospitality of the owners. A definite MUST for any Jerome/Verde...
Read moreWe were looking for a good breakfast spot in Jerome during our holiday weekend getaway. We found this quaint little cafe on Yelp. The reviews were decent so we figured we'd give it a try. We were greeted the minute we walked through the door. There were only a couple of customers so we had our pick of seating. The nice lady behind the counter suggested the back area where it was cooler.
The first thing we noticed was three of the four booths in the back had not been serviced. After a few minutes our server walked up and really didn't engage us. Must've been a rough night. I'm not sure if she was hung over or sick but she shouldn't have been serving tables. It took about 30 minutes before we got our dark chocolate mocha. The cup smelled of our servers perfume.
The food was okay but we both felt overpriced. The huevos rancheros was a pair of eggs over easy on corn tortillas on a heap of black beans, I mean a mountain of black beans. I ordered the #1 burrito but the chorizo was frozen so I had to settle for a sausage burrito. Again, it was okay but not worth $12.96.
Not once did our server check on us. No offers for refills on the water or coffee. The booths were finally serviced after a few guests started showing up. Even then, we saw one guest cleaning up her own booth.
The place has potential, especially since the breakfast places are limited. Up until today, our visit to Jerome was...
Read moreMy husband and I came in last friday around 745 pm for a dinner date and all I can say is wow. I literally LOVE THIS PLACE! The rabbit boudine was absolutely to die for, the bruschetta , bread was made that morning, was so good we finished it before they could bring us plates.. 😄 the cocktails are good. Like REAL GOOD. They are a little pricey, but the quality of the ingredients are what you are paying for. With such reasonable prices on their food I didn't mind paying a little more for drinks. We each had an entree I had the scallops with rice pilaf and grilled asparagus. The scallops were like butter. I never order scallops out at restaurants because they are always a disappointment, but this little gem in Jerome hit them out of the park. My husband had a poached then grilled bone in chicken breast, with a yummy lightly dressed salad with the yummiest potato latke on the side. We were both just blown away at our little find that night.
Forget taking vistors to phoenix for a great dinner, we just have to drive up to Jerome!!!
Super excited to come back to try breakfast and lunch, we love you guys!!...
