Exemplified Tennessee Hospitality for Wedding Events
I am a Hilton Diamond and Marriott Platinum member – prior to Covid-19 I traveled to one or more hotels almost every week, normally staying in the Hilton, Westin, or Marriott. On my less frequent trips over the last year, it has been clear hotels were struggling to maintain basic services, a concession I accepted as a fact of the epidemic.
The DoubleTree of Johnson City blocked rooms for my daughter’s wedding weekend guests. We hosted a dessert reception on Friday night followed by an “after-party” on Saturday evening for our out-of-town guests who wished to stay an additional night. The rate was attractive, and they added rooms as we needed them to the block.
The entire experience was exceptional. Preparation was professionally coordinated with the hotel manager Lauren Stopka and the event coordinator Brandi Maupin. Both showed patience and flexibility as we worked toward the event and they accommodated last-minute requests with grace.
Planning the events, Brandi was enthusiastic and imaginative. I visited with the hotel engineer Ken and their prep team as they set up, it was clear they care about their work and wanted to us to be happy with the venue.
Estimating how much food to order was a concern for me – in execution, it was tasty and plentiful; I received numerous compliments from our guests about the quantity, quality, and presentation.
The most notable aspect of this engagement was the universal hospitality exuded by the entire staff at the DoubleTree. During my stay, I spoke with the front desk, maintenance, engineering, housekeeping and of course the event staff – without exception they were attentive, professional, and enthusiastic. During the receptions, my guests sought me out to tell me how great Brandi and her team comprised of Teresa Hellriegel, Jennifer Thornton and Kelly Privette were. For my family, this event effectively doubled as a reunion; I think the staff sensed that and they made it very special for so many of us who have not seen each other for too long.
This event was not cheap, but it was an exceptional value given the quality of food, service, and most importantly the people we were privileged to work with. The Johnson City DoubleTree exemplified Tennessee hospitality which reflected greatly on me and my family. My wife and I offer our deepest thanks to the staff and I look forward to our next stay at the DoubleTree in...
Read moreMy husband and I booked this hotel at the last minute. We had just started at the DoubleTree in Chattanooga the previous 2 nights, and had such a great experience, we thought this would be a good choice. We choose Hilton's most of the time when we travel, but this one did not have the service we have come to know. Some of this would be the age of the building, but this did not bother us too much. Some of the signs are updated, for example the fitness room, and while there is a typed sign on paper in the elevator saying it was on the 5th floor, we never did find it. The front desk staff was nice when we checked in. It was very hard to find parking, I would suggest adding some more handicap spaces in the front. There was a reunion going on, so I figure this is why the lot was so full. The pool was nice, but there were a couple of teenagers in it with regular clothes on, blue jeans and button up shirts. I understand that the front staff is not monitoring the pool 24-7 but I felt like there was never anyone checking on it. My 6 year old loved it though, there were plenty of places to sit around the pool. The food was good in the restaurant, but the cushions on the benches were really stained. My margarita was very weak and just tasted like sweet and sour mix. Service was average. There were dishes outside 3 of the rooms in the hallway araound 7pm, that were still there when we checked out at 12 pm the next day. We didn't have a do not disturb sign, which we didn't notice until housekeeping tried come in. If you're in the bathroom make sure the door is closed, when the door opens you can see right into it. We only had 2 towels for 3 people, they brought more up when we let the front desk know. The bed didn't quite for in the frame, but by the time we noticed it was late, we wanted to sleep and we did not want to have to move rooms. The comforter blanket had lumps in it, not sure if that shows she or improper waking techniques. The chairs are placed in front of the air conditioning units, so you need to move them to get adequate air flow. Overall, it is not the worst hotel, but if we would have paid full price, I would have been highly...
Read moreOn July 4th, 2025 I took my mother and grandson to Johnson City Tenn. to visit my brother who is very sick. I am a Hilton member I trusted the Hilton name. Traveling from another state not knowing the area I felt it would be a perfect hotel to stay the night. I was so embarrassed to have brought my mother and grandson to this hotel once we were inside the rooms. My mother has a problem getting around so it would been too hard to go to another hotel and lose almost 200.00. 1) the door was beat up and scratched. 2) there was no access from the outside into the connecting room. 3) the couch bed in the connecting room had springs popped up everywhere in the mattress. 4) there was a power cord hanging from the wall for the refrigerator and microwave. 5) the bathroom is very old and grunge looking as well as the lotion dispenser hanging by screws in the wall. 6) one of the front desk clerks was rude and tried to argue with me in front of the guest in the lobby because I needed to speak to the property maintenance manager about my grandson getting locked out of the adjoining room(the door lock was not working) the desk clerk didn’t see safety as a concern. She as well was tired of me coming down to the desk because of this and that being wrong with the room. The maintenance manager was kind helpful and went out of his way to do what he could to help us. The house keeping attendant went out of her way to assist us. The manager attempted to call me only one time the next week ( I was working and couldn’t take the call) This hotel stay was the worst and most embarrassing stay in my life even from back in the day being young and on a tight budget. I had to keep apologizing to my mother. This hotel is run down it looks like it’s been beat up I know our room was not acceptable to have HILTON attached so badly that I cant trust the...
