This is a franchise and as expected what they giving to those who bring items to the store is significantly smaller some 2% of what item might have cost retail. There also is not a difference between the amount given in trade or in cash. The young lady who received my items for a credit was obviously more trained then the poor young lady who received me upon my return. Which by the way was some 3 hours later after I dropped off my items. The items dropped off the store only chose some 8 articles out of maybe 40 or 50. Of all those items which over half were very well-known brand names they chose the items that were on the higher end of retail. That's why I was surprised that they were only offering me seven and a half dollars. It's not as if I expected to received some great amount but when you're only giving me a dollar and a half for an item that still has its tags on that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Also wasn't given the opportunity to have credit opposed to cash. As I stated before there's no difference in the amount but because the girls had already cashed me out I had to pay taxes on the items that I had chosen to buy from store. When I came to the store to see what they had chosen to buy and asked if what they were giving for each item I was met by flustered aggravated employee. As I mentioned she might not be as well try and and might have been newer but I would think that's pretty standard procedure to be able to ask the amount they were giving for each item so I could make a decision as to which items I was willing to let go at what I deemed reasonable. I also found it a little disconcerting that when the items were brought to me and I return the store the items that they did not choose to make an offer on does not appear with the items they were willing to buy. I even had to request my items back. I'm not saying they weren't ever going to give them back to me but I'm not sure at what point that would have been. There is no changing room at this facility but was told that we could use the bathroom as a changing room in which of course we had to in the middle of our endeavor grab all items so that another customer could use the bathroom and considering that's your only place for customers to try on clothes that wouldn't be too much to ask that we have more than the handicap railing to hang our chosen articles. If you were to ask my daughter her biggest complaint, she found it very difficult at 9 years old 2 look through items her size as in this particular store all tops blouses and jackets for hung on a top rack that I'm sure half of my short on one in Friendswood find it difficult to reach and all slacks and jeans on the bottom rack. I'm pretty sure any nine-year-old would find it a lot more interesting to look at tops then bottoms and those were just what was Out Of Reach. I was surprised to find dirt still on the shoes again remembering that there are only purchasing these items at 2% retail and charging a hefty mark-up so that some item that might have cost $40 at the mall they're giving someone a dollar and a half for $2 for and apparently they're not cleaning the items and then charging $15. I'm not telling you to not give it to go as they're only a couple other options in the Johnson City area of Tennessee at least compared to others who only receive items to make offers on at certain times and certain days in a way is more convenient. I just want to make sure you're prepared. And hopefully those employees which there were quite a few of will be more trained and ready to work...
Read moreI am very disappointed in the business practices of this location. I have done business with Once Upon a Child many times through the years, although this was my first time visiting the Johnson City location. On Saturday, 11/3/2018, my husband I drove an hour to Johnson City to look for a fetal doppler. When we arrived at your store, we were told that a couple in the store had just brought one in to sell and that you were in the process of going through their items and were waiting to see if the seller would accept your bid. In the meantime, we were shown the doppler and contents of the box and were told that you âonly sell them for $15.00â. We agreed to wait and browse the store while you went through the potential sellerâs items. I went outside and my husband was told that the sellers had left to go to the mall and that you would call my husband if the seller accepted your offer and we could come back and purchase the doppler. So we left the store and continued to wait, and my husband finally received the call that the doppler was available for us to purchase. When we returned to the store to buy it, we were THEN told that this particular doppler would cost $20.00 instead of the $15.00 that we were quoted. Had I been in the store by myself, I would have told you to keep it and left. However, my husband wanted to get me what I had been looking for, so he agreed. I feel he was taken advantage of. I realize that $5.00 may not be a big deal to some people, but to raise the price of something by 33% because you knew we had traveled a long way to find something, and knowing that we had waited well over an hour to buy it once we arrived, it simply greedy and that is NO WAY TO DO BUSINESS. If the price you quoted would not be honored in the store, you should have told my husband so when you called him to inform him that the doppler was available in the store. Instead you even acknowledged in the store that you knew you had quoted us $15.00 but that the price would now be $20.00. I will not be purchasing anything else from this store, nor will I bring any of my childrenâs items to sell to your store so that you can use them to take advantage of...
Read moreI went to this location to exchange clothing and left very disappointed and embarrassed. The store is far from our house so we dropped off the clothes and ran errands in the area waiting for the text notifying me the clothes were ready. I never received the text after a few hours but it was too far to drive home and back so we went straight to the store and looked for clothing we could buy in exchange. After looking for awhile, I went to the front desk and asked when our clothes would be ready (we had a lot of clothing to trade in so I understood it would take awhile). The employee told me my clothes were ready so I got in line to process the exchange. At the point of sale, another employee came to me and said they could not accept any of my clothing because they had a smell to them. I was very embarrassed and honestly surprised because most of the clothes that I was trying to exchange were the same clothing I had during my last exchange. I was told during my previous visit that they bought clothing based on the season and the ones in the tote were not the seasonal type clothing and to bring them in again in a few months. Since my last visit, the tote was only opened once so I could neatly fold the clothing. The clothing has been in the same container in our upstairs bedroom since our last visit. We do not smoke or have pets upstairs and the clothing was washed prior to being put in the tote originally. After leaving the store, my husband and I smelled the clothes and didnt find a stinch to them. Regardless, the staff was kind to me and I was kind to them. What really made me angry is that we did not receive the text notifying us the clothing was ready or could not be accepted which I was told I would get when I signed in. If they only took a moment to open the tote and smell the clothing, I should have been notified at that time to pick them up as we would have picked them up and gone home without wasting our day in JC or looking for clothing to exchange after the employee told us they were ready. I would have appreciated a more honest and...
