In town for the funeral of my wife's favorite aunt. After the funeral we were emotionally and physically exhausted and simply needed some place to crash for the evening. We chose the Econo Lodge Kearney because it was the cheapest motel within a 15 mile range. It has turned out to be the most pleasant surprise we've had in a long, long time. While we usually stay at Motel 6 (because of their wonderful pet policy) we didn't have our dogs with us this time so that wasn't a factor. If this place has a dog friendly policy I'd have to invent a six star rating for it, but since I don't know I'll have to stick with five stars. Now understand that we are not unfamiliar with higher end lodging - our kids have put us up at some really fancy places and we've been comped rooms that go for as much as five hundred dollars a night at some pretty classy casinos. But for the price this is unquestionably the best place we've ever stayed - and if I were to compare it to our library of lodging experiences without considering the price at all it would still rank up there within 2 or 3 of the best places regardless of price - much higher than some of the multi-hundred dollars places we've stayed. The pros: *Friendly and helpful staff *A spacious two-bed room with a comfortable chair and ottoman *Three real pillows per bed (we always take our own pillows when we travel by car because so many places wrap a pancake in a chunk of cloth and call it a pillow). *Mini-fridge, microwave, ironing board, hair dryer, full-sized bath and shower. *Largest TV ever (including the very high end places) with excellent picture and best channel selection ever - including On Demand selection for most channels (including HBO) - something we've never seen before in any lodging. *Free and easily accessible WiFi *Free mini-breakfast *Firm and very comfortable beds *Freshly remodeled, tastefully appointed and immaculately clean The cons: From the outside it doesn't look anywhere near as nice as it is on the inside...but then that makes for a very pleasant surprise The tremendous channel selection doesn't include TCM. Sorry, but that's pretty much our go-to channel so I had to mention it I checked - pet policy is $14.95 per pet and they have rooms specifically for those with pets right next to a break area. Not what we'd like it to be - but not terrible. The bathroom door was pretty bad - scrapes the floor and needs to be replaced. I mentioned this to the night clerk and he told me that new doors are actually on the way. To sum up - if you asked for more you'd be asking too much. I cannot stress enough what a tremendous value this is. If you're in the area you'd be nuts to stay anywhere else.

I would like to say I was very disappointed with my stay at Econolodge last night. I understand that it is a no frills hotel but this place was a dump and didn't look anything like the pictures. the exterior of the building and parking lot are trashed and have many safety issues (rails not secured, wooden steps very slippery, trash/old hotel items all over property and look to be there for years). When we went to our no smoking room, it was clear that it was a smoking room. There was no sign stating it was a non smoking room and was between 2 smoking rooms and smelled heavily of smoke. We were given another room and the cleaning staff (who were not in any type of uniform) were still cleaning at 530pm. When we finally got in the room it was clear this was cheaply remodeled. There was no chair for the desk, mold was just painted or sealed over, bathtub was just painted over, carpet and tile look like my 6 year old laid them. HVAC hasn't been cleaned in what looks to be forever (could also use upgrade so the unit doesn't run all the time). In the morning we noticed the linens were stained and the other queen bed had hair all over it (we didn't use the bed and we saw maids make both beds, just didn't see if they changed them). The breakfast, though it was complimentary, was crap. Food tasted old/stale and not very many choices. Went to check out and no one was at desk, had to call out 2 times before anyone came out along with the alarm on the door. They have WIFI but good luck on signal. Never again!

I asked the manager/ owner to see the room. He said of course, And accommodated my request. I have smoke allergies and wanted to make sure the room didn't have an odor. I also checked the bed. The mattress was new, well covered. I slept well on the smooth new sheets. The coffee pot was practically new, I always look inside and run water thru it before making coffee, nothing nasty came out. The water is hot and the shower pressure is fabulous. Towels were clean and soft. The fridge was already cold for my food. I didn't use the microwave. A little run down in appearance on the outside, but that isn't important, an overall great place to stay. I'll stay again, and recommend this location.

The staff i interacted with were polite and helpful. I checked into RM 113 and was pleased to find a microwave and mini-fridge. The fridge had ice build-up so thick the top 25% was all ice and the freezer door was laying in the bottom. It was clear this unit had probably never been cleaned, i spend that evening thawing and cleaning it and i'm sorry I disposed of the 3 pork chops i found in the trash can outside of my door. When i went to use the microwave i found the glass tray filthy gross and the door lens melted and deformed, cleaned that as well. There was dirt and small debris in the corners of the room indicating the level of cleaning attention the room receives. Immediately outside of my door was a trash can that was 3/4 full when i arrived. My initial stay was for 3 days of which i declined room service by making a "do not disturb" sign from the comment card that someone had previously used for scratch paper because there was no DND sign. I extended my stay by 2 days and called in the am of my new reservation, they had already taken care of it and asked if i wanted housekeeping. I asked to have the room cleaned and the trash outside my door emptied, guess they didn't notice the full trash can for the last 3 days. Got back to the room and the first thing i noticed was the trash was emptied. Someone from the staff saw my homemade DND sign over the last 3 days but didn't put a real one in the room? really. The bed i had slept in was made but not changed, the same stain were in the same place. I figure my time to clean your appliances, managing your staff to empty the obviously full trash is worth about $100 of my time. I reported the WI-FI not working on day 2, it was fixed but failed again Days 4-5, i didn't bother reporting it, at that point it was clear the overall level of...

Bedbugs!!! DO NOT STAY HERE!! Room 214 as of 6/5/2023. Reported to MO Health Department. Immediately checked out of room. Front desk guy was OK at best, he had no clue about anything and just stared at me like I was stupid when i reported the situation, and had to call his manager and whoever else instead of apologizing or anything because I wanted a refund and not another room.

Manager came to talk to me and was straight up hostile, rude, and disrespectful, along with being dressed like trash and completely unprofessional. Refused to believe I saw bedbugs, running the bed the moment I sat down, and incredibly rudely said I was just mad about my room and lying about bugs for a refund. Worked in the hotel industry for years, have traveled many places and stayed in cheap and nice hotels and never ever ever had an experience like this one. Never even received an apology of any form and was treated terribly by the so called management, who is a terrible representative of Choice Hotels and this business.

Entire property and pool were disgusting; Pool was closed and full of filthy, stagnant water, but advertised as open, and there were piles of sheets and furniture all around the area of the room. A/C in room was completely broken and filthy. Absolutely disgusting hotel. Somehow also charged me an additional 80$ along with the entirety of the cost of my reservation. Terrible start to a vacation, but that horrendous place is was worth leaving. Ended up having to search over an hour (no exaggeration, and it was 3 of us looking) for a room for our 4 night stay and we’re put in a terrible position by this hotel after booking this stay well over...
