We drive between MN to KS often. Usually we stop in Bethany, MO to break the trip up for the kids. This time we decided to drive a bit longer and stop in Kearney so we gave this HIE a try.
It is a great newer property, pretty clean, and the staff was friendly. The room was clean aside from the window sill and a piece of gum stuck to the carpet. The bathroom was spotless, so A on that, and the beds were fabulous!
The pool was clean. However, it was pretty much unusable! The chlorine level in it was ridiculously high! So high that it felt like our skin was melting and was so itchy! Kind of a bummer since the pool played a big role in deciding to stay here with kids. I would recommend training the staff to maintain the pool correctly, or get rid of it all together and replace with a game room with a few arcades that kids can use.
The breakfast selection was fantabulous. The biscuits and gravy were awesome, and so was everything else.
Overall a good spot. Will probably become our new stop for our trips. We were impressed with the town of Kearney in general, especially from a cleanliness standpoint. Every place we visited from restaurants to gas stations was spotless. Even the gas station public bathrooms were cleaner than a lot of restaurant tables we've sat at in other towns. This shows that the people in Kearney really take pride in their work and I'm sure this plays a role in the cleanliness...
Read moreA fairly new hotel that is centrally located yet in a quiet area. Our family booked four rooms for a surprise birthday for our dad who was turning 86. There was a bit of a misunderstanding upon check in, as I neglected to note that two of the rooms and guests were a surprise, and my husband was less than gentle voicing his displeasure at the surprise being revealed early. Milisa (the manager) handled his anger with extreme professionalism and grace, and did everything right to rectify the situation, and bless her for not breaking down, because I certainly would have. We got to our rooms, when Murphy decided to show up. Our daughter left her room and somehow the security latch popped open when the door closed, so she was unable to get back in. Thankfully, Milisa was able to get it unlatched for us. Hubs was on his way to the front desk to apologize for his behavior when this happened…thanks Murphy. On our way out to dinner, I saw Milisa was still at the front desk, so I stopped and chatted with her a bit and explained why hubs reacted the way he did. She was nearly in tears as the understanding of why he did what he did suddenly made sense. Again, she handled it all with grace. Milisa is a perfect example of what great management looks like, as well as good, old fashioned midwest hospitality. She is definitely a valuable asset to the Holiday Inn brand and I am glad we decided...
Read moreStopped at this location on our way back from our holiday travels. We checked in around 2130 without a reservation and were promptly registered and to our room. The gentleman on duty at the front fest was very friendly and pleasant. Our room was very clean and held up to all the standards that I expect of the IHG brand. There was a bit of noise from the highway but nothing that disturbed us too badly. It was pretty well drowned out with the heat/ac running. I loved the toiletries in the bathroom. The shower had full sized JR Watkins pump bottles attached to the wall. While you can't take along the extra, my eco friendly brain never likes the idea of all those individual single use bottles that get disposed of. The bathroom had a couple cosmetic details that I wouldn't have expected for a brand new hotel, but nothing that was too off putting. Some sloppy caulking some of which that looked to be cracked and gapping in the shower.
The public spaces were pretty much immaculate. The elevator was a little dirty when we passed through but that's to be expected in the high traffic area.
Breakfast had a great selection, my low carb family had lots of healthy choices to choose from and the coffee was nice and strong.
All in all our stay was great and I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone...
