As a Marriott Rewards member, I booked a room at the Fairfield Inn, Kennett Square, for a Wedding Anniversary getaway weekend, for my wife and I, from 11/30 thru 12/2 2018. We grabbed the Longwood Gardens package for 2 nights.
We encountered heavy traffic that Friday night and checked in after 5 pm, we had dinner reservations at the Garden for 5:45, so we put our things in the room and headed out. After dinner, we toured the Gardens and we were exhausted upon our return to the hotel.
We did not realize how noisy the heating unit in the room was until we tried to get some sleep. So much so, that every time the heat kicked on, it was loud enough to wake us both up. When the unit was off, the sound of highway traffic was coming through the windows, meaning that the windows are not insulated to the quality of contemporary standards. This was absolutely, the worst night of sleep we ever had at any hotel, EVER!
The next morning, although, we considered checking out and going home after that first night, it was our first visit to the area and we wanted to see more of the area. I complained at the front desk and we asked for a room switch. The front desk staff was very accommodating with our request and they understood why. This also means that they were aware of these room conditions, when I booked the room and made no mention of it to me over the phone. This is a serious point of contention.
After switching rooms, my wife and I visited the shopping district in downtown Kennett Square, but, we only lasted an hour and a half, before we both decided to go back to our room and nap. We slept a few hours, woke up, went to dinner, then returned to our room by 8 and got more sleep. We were still exhausted from limited rest the night before and this ruined our weekend.
At checkout, on Sunday morning, I did complain again and the person on duty at the front desk, did grant us a $99. discount on our stay. While this was appreciated, it didn't make our Anniversary weekend any better.
While my wife and I agree that the staff was very nice and accommodating, the room conditions, should have been disclosed to me, before I made the reservation. We were both surprised that Fairfield Inn (part of the Marriott family) had such serious issues at one of...
Read moreThe front desk employees are extremely rude. I stayed there for my wedding this past weekend. I will never stay at this Fairfield Inn again. I had welcome bags to be given out to all my guest when I arrived I was given the wrong welcome bags and mine were not even out at the front desk. On Saturday morning one of my bridesmaid called down to the front desk to get more towels and toilet paper due to we were getting ready in the room. The front desk employee Tara gave her attitude saying it will take a while due to she can't communicate with the house keeping crew. Then when the mother of the bride went down to ask if her room was ready she was given attitude again from Tara. We had over 10 rooms. One of our guest checked in on Saturday and was given a room with broken air when the guest went down to request to be moved she was told by Tara that the air was broken and she knew . She then proceeded to check in another guest to that room a little bit later which the room was 80 degrees all night. Another guest had mold in their room and had to be moved at 2am. On Saturday night after the wedding I asked my guest staying if they received welcome bags, majority stated they didn't even get a bag. Told my guest to go down, and another front desk employee gave her a hard time. I ended up going down and getting my welcome bags back. I was asked who I was told her the bride and I was still given a hard time. Then when one of my guest was checking out she was given a hard time by Tara when she asked for a print out of her total. Another person from my wedding block overheard Tara talking to other guests saying the bride came down stairs saying we were apparently not giving her bags out. Your wedding day is already stressful so to add this stress was not necessary. I will say dealing with the sales coordinator about the room block was the less stressful part and she was very nice and easy to deal with. But the two front desk employees we dealt with Saturday were rude and...
Read moreThis is a decent hotel for a decent price. Soft bed, reasonably comfortable furniture, clean, check in and check out was a breeze. We only stayed for one night, so didn't use all of the amenities, but I have a few observations about our stay that may be helpful.
We stayed in a King suite, and my initial reaction walking in the door was that I expected it to be more spacious based on the photos on the website, so be prepared for that. It was still a perfectly adequate room for 2 people.
The hotel is located right next to the highway. Traffic noise doesn't bother me, but if it bothers you, this may not be the place for you.
It was a little confusing to get to, as our GPS kept telling us to make a u turn where it was illegal to make a u turn, and there didn't seem to be a straightforward way to get there.
Wi-fi is S-L-O-W. Wasn't a huge problem, I just turned off wi-fi on my phone. BUT, if you are watching your data use or counting on the wi-fi connection to use a laptop... well, I wouldn't.
My only real complaint about our stay was that when we went down to breakfast around 8 (it is served from 6-9:30), the food was a bit sparse, especially the area with the fresh fruit - there was a handful of grapes, 2 apples, and 1 hardboiled egg left. No one came to restock until we were finishing up our breakfast. When your customers are expecting a continental breakfast to be included in their stay, it is unacceptable to not have a staff member constantly staying on top of refilling the breakfast buffet. If you are planning to head down for breakfast first thing in the morning, this likely won't be a problem for you.
Overall, it was a good stay for the price, but not good enough that I would definitely stay...
