I stayed at the Tamarack Lodge 3/10 & 3/11/2016 while visiting Sun Valley Resort. This place has a lot to offer but also has a lot of problems. Lets start with the good, The Tamarack is conveniently located downtown. There is a Starbucks close by and the free ski shuttle stops right outside. There is a sporting goods store right next door if you need any gear. They also rent bikes. The hot tub is nice and outdoor which I love. The building has nice bones, the rooms are large and they have a nice balconey. Now lets look at the bad. This hotel is in poor condition and not being maintained well. The faucet dripped loudly into the metal sink. Every hinge in this place squeaks. The patio door was difficult to open and squealed loudly along its track. The pool needs to be resurfaced there are large chunks of the surface breaking off or missing. Our neighbors constantly complained about me speaking in my normal voice because the walls have no insulation. The rooms are large but lack furniture. The furniture in the rooms is old worn out and does not match. Who ever owns this property is just wringing the money out of it. But most of all the greatest disappointment was the STAFF. We arrived late and followed the instructions for late check in. Our room was supposed to have 2 beds and a pull out couch. It had 1 king bed with no couch for 3 adults. when we contacted the front desk again they acted like we were bothering them and offered no help what so ever. We ended up making a bed out of the two Ikea chairs and coffee table that were in the room in place of the couch. All hotels should have some sort of roll away, air mattress or folding mattress just for this tyope of situation. It's a small investment in equipment. I would not recommend staying at this hotel for the price that they charge. Its about...
Read moreExtremely disappointed. This is a motel masquerading as a hotel, with all rooms opening directly onto the street or into a shared courtyard. The second we stepped into the shared courtyard we saw a man using a deeply unsafe DIY grilling apparatus - the contents of which he promptly spilled, as he was significantly inebriated. We cancelled our two-night stay not because of the fire hazard of a boozed up grillmaster but actually because the motel was nowhere near close to ADA-accessible, which posed a serious problem as the whole reason we were in town was for a significant surgery on my dog that would leave him unable to go up and down stairs. Be prepared to spend your entire time here going up and down stairs to do everything except sleep and pee (unless you decide to do that in the courtyard). When we called to cancel we gave up the 1st night as a lost cause and asked if there was any chance of a refund for the 2nd night (as we were more than 24 hours out), and the person who answered the phone was both unfriendly and unsympathetic, offering to read us the cancelation policy verbatim instead of saying something easier like "sorry." Which is how I feel about the...
Read moreWe were told we could not check in until 4 p.m. by the not so friendly female receptionist. I called later and the helpful 'man' said it was ready at 3:40 so we got to rest a bit before dinner. This 'lodge' is quite dated and stuffy. Our refrigerator was not working and was leaking so the floor in front of it was wet. They did replace it almost immediately which was awesome. The floor was still wet and it was also now wet by the entry near the door. The mattresses were soft, great for my husband, not so good for me. The sound on the T.V. went up and down so we had to keep adjusting the remote so as not to disturb our neighbors. We were told by the company we got our reservation through that there were three steps to the second level, three levels to the hotel and no elevator. I had to schlep everything myself up and own those SIX stairs because my husband was a current candidate for hip replacement. The hot and cold faucets were reverse in the vanity sink. The room was dark unless you had every light on, not very cost effective for a hotel and town that was encouraging 'save...
