The restaurant of choice for us when coming to Ketchum is the Pioneer but this place was recommended by a local, so we gave it a try. It was a bit hard to find - the signage is hard to see - they are next to the wagon museum.
We ordered the hand-made burger, the meatloaf and two beers. It did take a while to get our food, but it was worth the wait and once I saw it, I could appreciate the fact that it took some time to make. The meat quality was excellent and it was prepared well. My burger patty was more than inch thick and slow-cooked to perfection. Meat Loaf was plank-grilled with a sauce that was well-matched to its flavor. Presentation was very good and the main dishes were paired well with grilled vegies. Complementary bread was surprisingly good - mix of nice artisan-style breads.
Service was very friendly and professional. Not like a private club, but above par from what we've seen in the area. I took note of quality silverware that was assembled properly on the table.
The outdoor deck was awesome - breezy and well-shaded while and the area did not feel crowded.
In the end the bill came out to $38 after taxes, which we felt was reasonable. My only wish is that they had fountain drinks. They do have soft drinks in a bottle, but sometimes I like my bottomless coke with a burger.
Overall this place was a marked notch above in class and quality over the pubs along Main St. without the 'fine dining' price and we will visit...
Read moreI was really looking forward to trying out this restaurant. I've been to many of the restaurants in Ketchum. The menu looked great and the reviews are mostly high. However, I was very disappointed in my experience. The hostess & server were borderline rude. My food, which was overpriced for the portion, was inedible. The duck was overcooked and the wild rice was not flavored at all. The server never came back to see how our food was. The hostess walked by at one point asked "how is everything?" And walked off without waiting for a response. Once the server eventually came back to collect our plates, I informed her that the duck was inedible. She said sorry. And took the food. Didn't offer any type of replacement or refund. There was also a very strong teak oil smell throughout the building. The tables were so close together, it was uncomfortable. My spouse had the Bolognese, it was decent, but for the price, not worth it. The bread had nuts, which I wish the server has mentioned prior to ordering. I will definitely not...
Read moreHad take out. Ordered at 8:30 after calling to verify they were not closed. Was told they kitchen was already broken down (an hour before closing?) and we could order take out. The entire meal was terrible. Vinaigrette was straight lemon juice and all lettuce with a teaspoon of Gorgonzola cheese and 4 tiny slices of pears. With a side of chicken breast that salad cost $22! Are you serious? 9.50 for salad so that was 12.50 for a small chicken breast! Would have gladly paid $25 for an awesome salad. Macaroni and cheese was made with penne pasta (for kids), meatloaf was a strange texture but decent flavor. My son loved his hamburger. Yay for him. Never would think about returning to eat there. We also will be returning the actual dishes as they which I find odd they sent the meals on they actual plates and not take out containers. If you advertise a 9:30 close you should stay available to cook food until then. We picked...
