Wiseguys pizza has a ton of potential. They're location in the middle of downtown Sun Valley, close to a handful of bars, is prime. Selling pizza by the slice is perfect for a post hike, bike, ski, drink when you want a bite but not a whole pie.
However, I was pretty let down during my recent visit.
My experience at a restaurant is weighted by two factors: service and food. If the service is good, I'm more forgiving of bad food, and vice versa. Wiseguys pizza has both bad service and bad food (pizza specifically).
I had placed my order over the phone and paid (and tipped) ahead of time. I entered the shop, saw my order sitting on the top of the oven, so I bypassed the line of customers and went to the counter to ask one of the staff if they could hand me my order. Of the four staff working that day, one was making pizza, one was running the register, and two were staring at their cell phones. I waited at the counter hoping to grab the attention of the two idle staff. The individual at the register asked if I was here to pick up an order (probably obviously since I avoided the main queue), I said yes, to which he snapped "You can wait in line with everyone else." Why?! My food is ready, I can see the order 10 feet from me and an arm's reach from the two unhampered staff, and it's paid for. I got in line, waited, and was handed my pizzas - a transaction that could have happened minutes earlier and without the unsavory interaction. I headed home and on to the pizza.
The pizza... was bad. The base of the pizza had a tough leathery texture that made each bite a struggle, requiring me to tear and gnaw at the slice. The crust was hard and cracker like, again requiring more effort to eat and causing the overall enjoyment of the food to further suffer. The toppings were balanced but unable to shine due to the horrid crust.
Like I said initially, Wiseguys has so much potential to be a great pizzeria, but needs some serious tweaking to the quality of service and food they...
Read moreOne of my last stops in Ketchum was Wiseguy Pizza Pie and I'm so glad we got to try it out! It was one of those evenings where the only thing I wanted was to enjoy a nice down-to-earth meal in a relaxed setting. While there is some indoor seating, the restaurant offers some seating outside that appears to be shared with the KB's Ketchum Burrito place. With that said, there's plenty of places to sit outside and once you place your order inside, they will bring your food out to you!
One major remark I have about this place is the heavy pour of wine they had to offer! In addition to beer on tap, they also offer a small selection of wine on tap and you will receive a large serving! NO complaints from me on that, haha! It was a good quality Rosé too! For food, we ordered the following:
Garlic Knots - these were delicious! They pull apart really easily and weren't too garlicky. I really enjoyed the marinara too as it didn't taste like it was from a jar or can, even if it was!
Buffalo Wings - the buffalo wings were cooked well and had a slight crisp to them which was nice! They could have stood to have a bit more buffalo sauce on them, but were cooked well otherwise!
Margarita Guy Pizza (add jalapenos) and Pepperoni Pizza - both pizzas we order were great quality! The dough wasn't too thick or too thin and wasn't burnt at all. In fact, the consistency was spot on for how I like my pizza! Golden brown with a bit of crisp and without being overwhelmingly crunchy.
Great spot for great quality pizza in...
Read moreMy family and I took a detour up to check out Ketchum and Sun Valley on a sunday, and found that at 4pm during the summer, food choices are few and far between. We decided to try Wiseguy Pizza, and we are all sorry we did. First, the cashier had NO idea what she was doing, requiring help just to punch in the simple pizza order. We asked if the tomatoes were fresh or canned, and she just shrugged and looked at her manager, who said, "We can put them on before or after baking." in between bites of his own pizza. My son asked for a pizza cutter to finish what wasnt done by the cook, and the cashier said SHE was the only one who could cut it, walked over, swiped our pizza with the cutter, then GRABBED THE PIZZA WITH HER BARE HANDS AND RIPPED IT IN HALF. This after handling money, and beer taps, and register keys with the same fingers. Thanks alot! Will definitely recommend against darkening...
