Holy God this was the worst place I have ever stayed. We had pets, so a motel 6 is a no-brainer. Right? Wrong. To preface: I was moving my 66 year old mother to Arizona from Washington. We'd driven about 800 miles in a car full of dogs and a moving truck. It was 11pm when we showed up. We just wanted to park and go to bed. Our reservation was made for two separate hotel rooms, we had requested that they be next to each other. We made a reservation a moth out. When we arrive we're given a version of "tough luck we couldn't reserve two rooms next to each other a month out." We say fine. It's late: cats are tired, dogs are hungry. I grab the crates to put the dogs in for the night (they travel buckled up) and go to put them in my room.
It hadn't been cleaned. Dirty sheets and towels. I close the door, looks like the puppies are sleeping in Mom's room.
My mother's room was objectively worse. While it had been "cleaned" it absolutely reeked of cigarettes. A distant fan whirred, but no window ventilation was attempting to evacuate the smell. My mother has sensitivities to smoke that cause her throat to close and her to wake up severely scrambling for an inhaler. We know this, because she has to sleep with a HEPA filter at her old house during wildfire season. Cigarette smoke is a severe irritant to her and the front desk didn't mention anything of the situation in the room. We set up for the dogs and I went to go find a new room. It's about 11:45pm and I'm running on coffee and a couple hours of sleep long ago. My mom is in worse shape.
The front desk is helpful, and finds me a new room, this one is a double and doesn't smell like cigarettes. It also has fresh linens. I tell her that both of us will be staying in the room and my mother works out a refund for one of the rooms. We move all of the pets from being set up to the new motel room. It's 12:30am and checking in has now taken an hour and a half to find myself sitting on the edge of the bed while the dogs pull refuse from beneath the head of the bed. Bottle caps, plastic wrappers. The tattered carpet peeps away from a wall it was haphazardly glued to rather than set in place with vinyl. Trash sits behind it as well. The floor is littered with stains. Red ones, black ones, white ones, dark ones light ones, it's a spectacle of diversity that I'd expect from the Hallmark channel, not my motel carpet.
I find it necessary an this point to inspect for bedbugs. I find none, the only saving grace here... I go to take a shower. A water bottle cap sits on the tub. There is no soap to be found. I touch a wall and take a fingernail to it. Brown scrapes off. A white mark remains where my nail was.
We settled into our beds with cigarette burn holes, and called it a night.
In the morning at checkout there was no questions of how are stay was. They knew the...
Read moreNormally I love Motel 6, but this was my first disappointment. The good news is that it is still a great place to navigate with dogs but most everything else was a disaster.
Note: my review is 2 stars only because the staff were pretty helpful and nice and my mom thought they responded well. I still have a...
Read moreI really liked the room. After weeks on the road working then vacationing, we wanted to just veg out and watch tv for a day or two. The first night was a bit hot (they control the AC from the front office and have to come into your room to switch the ac on from heat). We dealt with it. Decided to stay another night so we could spend the whole day watching tv and relaxing in bed. They were repairing the balcony right outside our door so we couldn’t hear anything for hours on the tv due to the crazy loud noise coming from the construction. Ok, no worries, we can improvise. Night time came and someone threw the loudest party I’ve ever heard right next door and also right above the office. We kept the tv loud and tried to sleep. There were several instances of drunk girls fighting and crying and I thought surely the police would come at some point or the office staff would do something. I finally called the office at 4am and they said they had just reached out to the people to quit down. Ok. Well, they kept going anyways. The party finally ended around 6 am. And we were able to fall asleep. Woke up at 10 am and went to the front desk and nicely asked for another night for free so we could go back to sleep. It was not an unfair request given the situation and we had been very patient with the construction and raging party. They denied our request so we started packing. I also called corporate but they were unable to make that decision. I let them know we would be a few minutes late checking out. They knocked on the door at 11:05 and said we had to leave or pay for another night. My boyfriend had just finished showering and I was about to shower quickly then leave. We left there exhausted and disappointed at the situation. We still had another 2 weeks on the road and decided to no longer stay at Motel 6 after this experience. I love that we can have our animals for free there but there are other hotel chains that offer that as well. After calling hotels.com and requesting a refund, I got my $66 back for that Saturday night. Funny thing is, Sunday night was $10 cheaper so they would have been better off giving me the original request of a free night. I also no longer lodge with the Motel 6 chain after this experience and I travel about 90 days out of the year with NFL and NASCAR and leisure. That is the first time in 20+ years I have ever asked for a free night or refund. Management and staff should be more practical and business savvy when it comes to running the hotel. I do not...
