Beware... yes it’s the newest hotel in little ole Kinston Nc; but it already falls in line with the older ones. I took my family to Kinston for the first time to meet family members for a 4th of July gathering. We flew into Raleigh-Durham and drove over to Kinston with reservations for two rooms for two nights. And since we initially considered driving but instead we flew, we arrived a day early so we booked a double room for that night, which is were the horror began. We went to bed that night and everything was fine, but in the middle of the night, I felt my wife get out of bed to use the restroom, when she return I decided to do the same. As I return to get in bed she asked me to turn the lights on because she like she’d been bitten and when I did in fact she had been all down her back, legs and arms. I went to turn the linen and pillows back on the bed and discovered huge bed bugs crawling throughout the linens, and on the pillows. My initial reaction was one of anger because I did my research and I put my family in this situation. My daughter woke up, and we checked her bed to find smaller bed bugs in her bed. It wasn’t until the next day that she became itchy and realize she’d been bitten as well. I went downstairs to report the issue to the front desk clerk, who I had to search for because they’re forever outside smoking. I told her what was going on and she seem to act surprised, so she changed our room, initially putting us in a single room but then a double. If you’ve never experienced this let me tell you it’s completely terrorizing. New room/new hotel it plays in your head and make wherever you stay uncomfortable. We went to the Walmart across the street and purchased over $200 worth of spray, mattress covers, and linen sets. All in an effort to calm our nerves, and to feel a bit more comfortable in this hotel. I was told the GM was out of town, and had to deal with this Asian manager the following morning who I felt used her nationality to her advantage pretending not to understand what I was explaining to her. I understand that hotels are merely renting beds, but I also feel that it’s the hotel’s responsibility to rent beds free of anything that could harm the paying customer. There was a complete lack of concern for my family and I, never received as much as a phone call from the GM or anyone associated with Marriott. It wasn’t until my wife reached out to the GM, did she apologize. We paid for all five nights, never offered any type of comps for our discomfort or medical. We did learn a valuable lesson that Raleigh isn’t that far of a drive to book a hotel for our visits to Kinston. The Fairfield Kinston was truly a disappointment from management to housekeeping. If I could offer other visitors to Kinston a piece of advice, search for hotels in surrounding cities, as I remember when the Holiday Inn express was the new hotel in Kinston, it only took a few years before it became less than appealing of a place to stay on visits. The actions of the Marriott showed me exactly how they felt about my family and I, and I’ll be happy to show them the...

Read moreWhen I came through the doors I wasn’t greeted. I greeted them. Hands full, they made me pay again, because my husbands card on file wasn’t enough.
Then when showering I noticed two freshly drilled holes in my shower ceiling. Not professional looking at all. I took pictures, and documented it. Then things got very noisy and suspicious. I knew I had to stay there that night no matter what so I let it go. There was a group of guys playing football outside our hotel window at night in the parking lot. We were on bottom floor. My boys enjoyed looking at them outside our window. You couldn’t help it, because of the noise. Good kids though, I shrugged it off. They could always be doing something worse, right?
Later that night I was with my two sons who are 3 and 4. We walked out to check out the depth, and warmth of the swimming pool. There was a party going on for a one year old I was informed. 10 females inside, 15 males outside. Loud explicit rap music. When we were walking out one woman asked, “are you actually going out there?” I was confused, but said, “yes, I don’t believe it’s a private pool.” Which leaves me to assume (I hate assuming) it was a racial issue. Hating bullies, I decided to take my boys back to the room, and get swim ready. We went back. Still being stared down. One man did feel my pain, and opened the door for me to enter the outside area which lead into the pool.
We swam and played with the other children. Kids under 5 don’t see race. They just see new friends. The night ended well. Besides the shower peep holes. Haha
The next morning there was no coffee in the room, but a coffee maker. I telephoned the front desk. She tells me due to covid I can come down to get my own packets or drink the community coffee. Which clearly made zero sense. I asked her if she could run me down 2 pods, bc I was alone and my kids were still sleeping. Plus, it was their policy. They even had a sign “don’t leave kids unattended” on my door. She said, “ yeah...” and hung up. I am a patient person. I waited 2 hrs. Still nothing.
I dress my kids and go down, and again ask about the policy. She admitted to forgetting the coffee. Then another man that was behind us tried to intimidate me and smirked and laughed, “she doesn’t make the policies.” I turned around as were were walking back to my room with pods, to see them clearly laughing and rolling eyes.
Just a very odd stay, and it was clear..there was a lot of racial tension. As a white 35 year old, with 2 white boys...we definitely knew we weren’t welcome. Even my 4 year old said, “why is she being...
