We stayed here for 3 nights this past week & will NEVER stay here again. This is a long review, but worth the read. It was my husband, our 3 year old & myself. Rachel checked us in & was very pleasant. The initial check-in process was timely. I liked that they have a texting service to use if you are in need of something.
Things started to go downhill when we got to our room. We unpacked the car & walked around the room to check things. I walked in the bathroom & noticed the toilet seat & toilet bowl had not been cleaned. I texted the front desk number to let them know & Rachel texted back that they would send someone from maintenance to clean it. I checked the remainder of the room. The refrigerator was filthy, it had black curly hairs in it & a lot of sticky spots. All of the countertops were sticky as well. I texted the number back to letting them know. Rachel texted back to pack up our stuff & head back up front so they could put us in a new room. She was very apologetic.
We packed up and headed back up front to have her assign us a new room. Rachel mentioned that she was going to upgrade our room from a king suite to a 2 bedroom villa due to the inconvenience. She asked if we had any accommodations since the upgraded room would be on the top floor, which we were fine with if it meant we would have an upgraded room. She had trouble switching the room out & needed to call her boss for assistance. We waited in the lobby for 45+ minutes until her boss switched out our reservation. She again apologized and gave us our new room keys.
Things got worse from here. We headed back to our new room and walked upstairs to check it out. Once again, the toilet was filthy, the refrigerator was dirty and the countertops were sticky. The floor also had some sticky liquid left on it. Additionally there was a bathing suit left out on the back deck from the previous people who stayed in that room. I texted the number back and asked for someone from the front to call me. Rachel called and asked what was going on. I explained the issues with our room and she apologized again. We opted out of heading back down to switch rooms again because at this point it was already almost 8:00pm and we had our three year old with us that was getting restless. We knew he wouldn’t be able to hold out for another 45+ minute wait to switch our room again. We agreed on maintenance coming back over and cleaning the toilet. I then when to Walmart and bought some cleaning supplies to clean the countertops/refrigerator myself. On top of the room being dirty again, we were put in the same king suite room type that we originally booked. We were not upgraded rooms after being told we would be and waiting 45+ minutes for the upgrade to being complete in the system.
Rachel mentioned that when she spoke with her manager she gave her our contact info and that she should be reaching out to me the very next morning to check in and get things sorted out. Of course, the manager never called the next morning. In fact, she never called at all during our stay.
I will say that the location of this hotel is nice. It’s right behind a Walmart parking lot. However, everything else was not so great. They offer an indoor pool with a splash pad area and an outdoor pool. Both pools were very gross. The walkway around the pool is VERY slick. I fell on it and scraped my leg up pretty bad just from walking three steps from the hot tub to the wall. They offer a private beach access that you can drive to through the back of the property and across the stoplight. We were told that we needed our room key to access the private parking lot for guests only. This was not the case. The gate to the parking lot was open at all times, so anyone could get in and not just guests. Because of this, the parking lot was always packed. Then you still have to walk quite a ways to the beach and cross over a very busy street. Not ideal with a three year old.
Overall, I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. Terrible experience and will not...
Read moreWe just returned home from our very first family vacation at Beachwoods. The property alone was beautiful and well maintained. My boys, 4 and 2 had a blast, the best gift for my 40th birthday! This is for certain a family oriented vacation spot. That allows leisure and relaxation even with 2 young boys. We put our wristbands around our boys ankles and the rest was all memory making there after. We checked in an hour early and did not have to wait for our room, it was ready. Alyson at the front desk was efficient and to the point. This is important when traveling 10 hours with 2 kids. The concierge was very nice and she gave us a packet with restaurant suggestions, attraction and things to do on the OBX outside of the resort. The room was nice, a one bedroom, it was comfortable for a family of 4. We were on the bottom floor and there was a family in the A suite, we never heard them, there was an older couple above us and very little did we hear their footsteps, nothing in anyway disturbing to us, I am sure they heard my boys much much more. The only thing I found off putting was that housekeeping does not come unless you are staying 14+ days. In this case I would suggest keeping brooms and dustpans in the rooms for guest to use throughout their stay, especially with young kids as they get things on the floor. I yearned for a broom and dustpan lol. The bugs are real! The broom would also help to keep the patios clean. They had spider webs and bugs on everything. It's situated in the woods so it's for certain expected but I would have loved to be able to clean it better for my stay. The patio area was nice with a table and two chairs. The pots and pans could be updated but they were for certain usable. The location was great! There is literally a walmart as you enter the property which was great when arriving and needing to make groceries for your stay or needing items you may have forgotten to bring. There is a LQ store and a Wendy's right there as well. The main highway to everything else on the OBX was right there as well. It was all conveniently located or easily accessible. The drive we took all the way roanoke for the aquarium was nice, you go from one side to the other to get there so you get to see every part of the OBX essentially. The beach access was out the back of the property and a straight shot to the parking lot, with the beach located a couple 100 feet from the parking lot. The beach was nice and clean as well. All of which if you plan to spend the day there, makes going to set up and coming back easy. There is a bar, a fitness room, an arcade and a list of at least 5 onsite activities every day while we were there. My boys really loved the turtles and the toddler pool, which is off to the side of the big pool and gated with toddler proof locks, it is also shallow enough to where you don't have to be on pins and needles, you can sit at the side and watch your littles have the time of their life, many of the days we were the only family there at 9am, I cut up fruit, packed snacks and we'd swim until 1130am and then leave to feed the turtles the fruits we had left over for a good half hour and then go on about our day. The downside is that you can not swim in either pool if there is a storm within 10 miles of the location. This can be a problem as staying in the room can be tough, it rained at least 3 out of the 4 nights we were there at some point in the day. If there were grills designated to the rooms or more than 1 grill to the facility that would have been great as well for the rainy days! You can walk the property safely also if you need to tire out your kids. We had a great time for first timers. Looking forward to returning in...
Read moreJust spent a week at Beachwoods. Upon arrival, check in staff was extremely rude and not welcoming. There was no hello, no welcome to Beachwoods. She simply asked for my driver's license and credit card. I stated that I had reservations made by my mother and a confirmation letter. I also had a form that was filled out by my mother and faxed to RCI/Diamond Resorts with names of my siblings and I who are listed as people who are allowed to make reservations under my parents account. She refused to take both from me. She looked up my name on the computer and proceeded to tell me that my name was not on the reservation. Without explaining anything, she told me she was going to speak to the manager. She left with my driver's license and credit card in hand into some back room for what seemed like an eternity. She came out and said that she would have to call the woman who's name is on the reservation, my mother. When speaking to mother, the woman was extremely rude and impatient. The woman kept asking my mother if she authorized me to be on the reservation...repeatedly asking the same exact question. My mother was confused by the question because she was under the impression that I was already on the reservation. Without explaining to my mother that my name needed to be on the reservation as well, the front desk woman kept asking the same question over and over again until I told her to stop and ask to speak to my father. My mother is Vietnamese and was having a hard time understanding the question. The woman finally completed the check in process. I asked to speak to the manager, she went to the back room and said the manager would be calling me on Monday. I received no phone call from the manager and had to call myself. The manager was apologetic and offered a late check out and some kids activities fees waived.
I have stayed at Beachwoods as a guest of my parents for several years and have never been treated the way I did at check in. This is going to be the last time I stay here. My parents who have stayed there for many years were appalled as well.
Some other issues: A couple of weeks before our trip, we received a phone stating that the indoor pool area would be closed until the 10th or 11th. On our way down to Beachwoods, we get a phone call stating that the pool will now be closed until the 15th. We checked out on the 16th. Even though the pool was closed for a majority of our trip, we were required to pay the fee. When I asked the front desk woman what I was paying for if the pool was closed, she stated the "other amenities". She didnt offer to explain what the other amenties were but from previous visits there's a gym, paddle boating, unkept basketball court, volleyball, playground, arcade that you paid to play in, and no room service unless you asked for it.
I was given no map or check out procedures.
Security gates open at both ends the entire week.
The shower water in our unit collected to our ankles and was slow to drain. The unit itself looked clean on arrival but I know for a fact it was not deep cleaned. The floors were not mopped, light switches were dirty, hand prints on mirror, etc
Sanitizer in arcade was empty.
Walls were paper thin. You could hear everything in the unit next door. There was a car blasting loud music for at least 30min at 3am.
The quality of this place has gone down hill and unfortunately we will not...
