I’d give this spot 3 stars. I eat and make a lot of BBQ myself, so I tend to be a little picky when it comes to the details—and a few things here missed the mark for me. The beans tasted straight out of the can, like basic pork and beans, with no extra seasoning or effort to elevate them. The ribs were disappointing; they seemed like they had been sitting on the warmer for awhile, and the membrane was still on the back—removing the membrane before smoking ribs is bbq 101. The brisket also tasted like it had been sitting for a while, and was uninspiring. On the positive side, the mac and cheese was tasty good and the chicken had good flavor as well, though it leaned a bit dry. Service was quick and friendly, which I definitely appreciated. Note: I am from the Midwest and I know they are different ways of doing things in different regions. For example, I prefer a dry rub on a rib versus the Memphis and Carolinas saucy style.

On a weekday afternoon I stopped here for my lunch. It was a great pick! The place is fairly easy to find and there is easy parking. Everything is laid out well with signs for eat-in vs carry out. You will want to follow directions. The service was fast and friendly. They were very accommodating when I decided I needed a receipt after I first said no. There was nothing but smiles and polite conversation. I appreciate that in a restaurant. Now to the best part of High Cotton. The food. Definitely worth your time to come and see. The pork plate was a belly full and good enough to make you say mmmm. The NC style puts other techniques to shame. The pork has a chance to hold its own under the vinegar base sauce - not too much, maybe just a spoon full is all you want. The Brunswick stew was tasty as was the beens I had. Hush puppies - yep. Excellent. Thank you for my lovely lunch.

Decided to try High Cotton because we really wanted some North Carolina bbq to enjoy on vacation. Came in restraunt with family and ordered bbq plates and a combo plate with bbq/brisket. At first service was great. It was just us & another family inside. We recieved our meals, two of us got macaroni & cheese, which was very bland like it was from frozen. We swapped out for fries which were hot that's a plus. The barbecue wasnt what we were looking for but it was decent. The brisket was tough, could have been cooked a little longer. The hush puppies had good sweet flavor but were hard. We barely got any drink refills, everytime the waiter gave us a refill, more ice was added. We didnt need more ice everytime you pour the tea! So everytime we took a sip we were out again. Didnt feel we got our money's worth of drink. For the price $54, we were disappointed!

Best dining experience, revitalizes my faith in humanity. Went for a casual eat with my parents, we all ordered our food with no fuss, had a pleasant down to earth server giving us good recommendations. Our food was served within what felt like 5 minutes nice and hot and piled high. We all started devouring our food and as we came to finish we asked for some to go boxes. While we were waiting a gentleman approached us and asked my mother a question. He didn't ask his question rude or incredulous but simply asked "Did the sides fill you up or did you just not like my chicken?" She didn't eat much of her pulled chicken just because shes a picky person and told him that and he said no problem and walked away. He came back with a whole half roasted chicken in a box for her and we thanked him. As we were getting our bill he also slipped in and took our bill and took off her chicken order even though we put up no fuss about it. This man was the owner and I could tell he took great pride in his food and has his restaurant open not just to fill his pockets, but to serve quality food and service. Looking at the house made bbq sauces you can see it is all simple, natural ingredients with no preservatives which is the way I imagine the food is made too. The food was delicious and the service was the best I've ever seen a truly remarkable man who appreciates good food and his customers. He also gave us stickers on our way out. For the record he asked us if anyone wanted the pulled chicken because he didn't want to just waste it, so I said I'd take it. Took it home and ate it later, was delicious, obviously my mom just has issues. 5/5 recommend this place to anybody passing through or local, prices are great too for so much...

I ate at this establishment with my wife on 5 Jul at 5 pm. The place was crowded and we waited 30 min outside in 100 degree heat index to be seated for a party of two only to discover our table was not cleaned and only had one chair! The staff scrambled to clean the table and find another chair. I ordered the three meat platter which consisted of brisket, fried chicken, and pulled pork bbq with mac and cheese and fried okra as sides and hush puppies. The food arrived within a few minutes of being ordered which means it was not prepared fresh. Everything was barely warm except for the okra which was hot. The staff uses a team concept to serve customers. A young man took our order and a young girl served our food. The young girl later returned with my check, dropped it on the table, thank us, and departed. The problem was she never asked to refill our drinks, never asked if we wanted dessert, and never asked if we needed take home boxes when we clearly were not going to eat the abundance of food. I found my original server and told him that we wanted dessert but were given the final bill. He told me no problem and directed the same young lady server back to our table and she took our dessert order, delivered the desserts, but did not give us another bill. I told the owner who was the cashier that I did not receive a bill for dessert and he told me the server probably put it in the computer or they don’t eat. The customer should always see the bill before paying. Needless to say, we will not be returning to this...

We were told this place has the best BBQ on the island. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The place is very simple. Red and white checked cloth. Food mostly served in baskets on wax paper. Drinks in styrofoam cups. You get the idea.

Staff is super nice. I got the sense that most of the staff is family and while they are super busy, you always get the feel you are being welcomed to their table. And I appreciate that very much.

I had the triple meat combo with the pulled pork, brisket, and pulled BBQ chicken. They did not skimp on portions at all. It was a big plate of food.

I am not foodie. But being from Texas I consider myself well experienced with brisket. Theirs was slow cooked, had a good level of tenderness and just the right amount of fat to keep it juicy. So I give them high marks for that. I would have preferred a little more oomph in the seasoning. But it was not bad.

Often I do not like pulled pork. It's often to greasy or drippy and kinda gross. But I can honestly say their pulled pork was enjoyable It was lean and hot and you could really taste the pork flavor. They have sauces on the table but I tend to prefer eating my meat w/o suaces so I can actually taste the meat.

The pulled BBQ chicken was good, but I wasn't super impressed with it like I was with the other two.

All in all, a very enjoyable meal in a family friendly environment. Get there early The place fills up...
